Chapter 8
The wedding was lively, with nearly every notable figure in attendance. Keith, dressed in a custom white salt, beamed with happiness as he wrapped his arm around Cassandra’s waist.
Cassandra had changed into her wedding dress
She looked stunning. Sebastian felt that her presence was so captivating that time seemed to favor her. It left no trace of age on her face. Even after 13 years, she still looked just as beautiful and charming as she had when she first pulled him out of the closet
His gaze lingered on her as he greedily took in her face before he stepped forward and presented the wedding gift he had prepared. He offered it with both
hands.
“Congratulations on your wedding, Cassie,” he wished from the bottom of his heart. He hoped she would find happiness and peace
Cassandra took the gift and gave him a long, piercing look but said nothing
But in her eyes, there seemed to be an emotion that couldn’t be revealed, a whirlwind of feelings she fought to contain.
Unfortunately, Sebastian didn’t notice.
After handing over the gift, he quietly slipped away from the wedding. He simply didn’t have the courage to witness Cassandra marrying Keith.
He didn’t have that moch grace. He truly wished Cassandra well, but he would never accept Keith.
After he left the wedding, he first went to the cemetery to place his last bouquet of flowers at his parents‘ graves.
“Mom, I think I understand why you chose to end it all now,” he murmured. “Living really is painful. Why didn’t you take me with you back then? You hated Dad, but you took him. You said you loved me the most, but you left me here alone.”
The world felt so vast. Suddenly, he felt terribly alone.
It seemed that from the very beginning, no one had ever truly chosen him, loved him unconditionally, or stuck by him.

“Forget it. You didn’t love me, but at least Cassie has done her best. If you’re watching from above, don’t wo
With that, Sebastian kissed his parents‘ gravestones, then turned and left.
He went alone to a restaurant, waiting patiently for Cassandra to join him and celebrate his last birthday with him.
In the distance, fireworks ir up the sky. Even from so far away, he could still clearly see the message displayed in the sky, “Wishing Cassandra and Keith a Happy Wedding!”
Daytime fireworks–such extravagance, yet it was romantic. Cassandra was the kind of woman who would spoil her loved ones beyond measure.
Too bad the one she loved had never been Sebastian.
The minutes ticked by. The wedding was still loud and festive in the distance, and even the restaurant w
restaurant was buzzing with conversations.
People talked about the wedding dress worth millions, intricately adorned with real diamonds, marveling at how Cassandra had spared no expense, even hiring Keith’s favorite singer to perform.
Sebastian quietly listened. The world bustled around him, but he felt only loneliness.
Finally, it was 3:00 pm. Cassandra should be arriving soon.
4:00 pm arrived. It was their agreed–upon time, yet she still hadn’t arrived. Was something holding her up?
It was already 5:00 pm. The wedding was over long ago, and the restaurant had quieted, but Cassandra still hadn’t shown up
Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a notification. Keith had posted something new on Instagram. The wedding’s over, and the honeymoon begins. The first stop would be Prismark. We’re on our way”
The photo above the caption showed two plane tickets, one clearly Keith’s, and the other, Sebastian didn’t need to guess, was Cassandra’s
The flight was at 5:30 pm
At that moment, Sebastian finally understood that Cassandra wouldn’t be coming
The cake on the table had started to melt. Sebastian, like a soulless puppet, mechanically picked up a plece and ate it.
Why was the cream salty? It tasted terrible.
He forced himself to finish the whole cake, then paid the bill and left.
“Sebastian, I wish you a miserable birthday. I hope you’ll suffer no more after you die.” That was his birthday wish to himself.
He drove to the cryonics research facility, where the staff was already waiting, ready for his arrival
No one celebrated his birthday, but at least his death was marked by someone’s farewell, even if it was just a group of strangers
Sebastian thought for a moment, then pulled out a letter from his bag and handed into Reuben. “If anyone comes looking for me, give them this letter. If no one comes… Just throw it away.”
It wasn’t really important.
Reuben accepted the letter. “I’ll keep it safe.”
After that, Sebastian turned and walked toward his chamber.
He lay inside, just like he had hidden in the closet as a child during his parents arguments. The cramped space of the closet had always made him feel
sale.
The world was too big and complicated. He couldn’t cope with it. So, he returned to his “closet“.
“Everything’s ready. Starting the cooling process.” With Reuben’s command, the chill hit Sebastian, and he instantly lost consciousness.
“Goodbye, Cassie. Happy wedding,” he thought to himself.
