Chapter 23
“Countdown for the revival begins.”
As the robotic female voice made the announcement, everyone tensed up.
“I heard that the person being revived today is the biggest shareholder of our cryonics research facility! She funded the construction of many of our research facilities and cryogenic chamber storage facilities.”
“That’s right! I also heard that she was an extremely wealthy woman, but her lover had gotten a terminal disease, so she chose to be cryonically frozen alongside him.”
“Oh, my. Does someone so rich and devoted really exist? Her lover is so lucky!”
The younger researchers who were newer to the team were muttering among themselves. Cassandra was the largest shareholder of the cryonics research facility. In the past five decades, many versions of her love story with Sebastian had been repeated by the researchers.
Many of the finer details went missing in the various retellings, but the profound love that spanned the last five decades touched the hearts of all.
“Five, four, three, two, one! The revival begins!”
At the end of the countdown, the devices started cranking, and a strong burst of white gas was sprayed into Cassandra’s and Sebastian’s coffins. Soon after that, a blue glow appeared, and all of the ice within the cryogenic chambers instantly melted away.
Cassandra and Sebastian, who had been asleep for 50 years, slowly opened their eyes.
Sebastian had a dazed look in his eyes. What was going on? Didn’t he get frozen? Why was he awake?
He had lost consciousness the moment the cryonic freezing had taken place, so his last memory was of the final moment before he had been frozen 50 years ago. Thus, to him, it felt as if he had woken up right after getting frozen.
Upon seeing that Sebastian was awake, a researcher hastened over and asked, “How do you feel, Mr. Lowell? Are you feeling rather dizzy? Do you nauseated? Rest assured, those are common symptoms after you’ve been revived.

“If you feel like vomiting, please go ahead. Here’s a bag, and here’s some water. Oh, here’s a towel… If there’s anything else you need, just let me know.”
Sebastian was still utterly dumbfounded. “I’ve been… revived? Didn’t I tell Mr. Hart that I don’t need to be revived?”
Before the researcher could reply, a familiar female voice rang out behind him.
“Seb.”
Unsurprisingly, Sebastian was still able to recognize that voice immediately. It belonged to Cassandra!
He whipped around with a look of disbelief, and true enough, Cassandra was standing behind him and staring affectionately at him.
She had also just come out of her cryogenic chamber. Her hair was damp, and frost still clung to her body, but she couldn’t care about anything else. The moment she regained her ability to move, she made her way over to Sebastian and hugged him with all the strength she could muster.
“I finally get to see you again, Seb,” Cassandra said as she held him tightly, almost as if she wanted to become one with him.
She silently thanked God for giving them the chance to reunite. This time, she wouldn’t let them slip each other by.
“C–Cassie… what are you doing here?” Sebastian asked cluelessly. “Why does it look like you’ve just been revived too?”
He noticed the recently thawed cryogenic chamber behind Cassandra and belatedly wondered if she had also been cryonically frozen.
But why would she do that?
Hadn’t she married Keith? If she had been frozen too, what about Keith?
Sebastian had only just been revived. His brain couldn’t process the flood of complicated information and questions. Just his brief pondering was already making his head feel like it was about to explode.
Groaning, he clutched his head with a look of agony.
Cassandra was sent into a panic. “What’s the matter, Seb? Does your head hurt? You’ve only just been revived. Don’t think too much. Here, have some water. You need to get some rest.”
“But…”
Sebastian still had a lot of questions to ask. He grabbed a corner of Cassandra’s clothes and refused to let go.
Seeing this, Cassandra couldn’t help but chuckle. She stroked him on the head as she assured him with a smile, “Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be right by your side, always.“.
