Chapter 11
Everything felt like a dream.
When Cassandra returned from the police station, she was in a daze. She didn’t even remember how she got back.
Her mind was in turmoil. How had everything turned out this way?
When she left a week ago, everything was fine. Sebastian had even asked her to celebrate his birthday with him.
How had things changed so drastically in just one week?
If she had known that would be the last birthday she could spend with him, she would never have missed it for the world.
“What’s wrong, Cassie?” Keith emerged from the bedroom and approached Cassandra, wearing a seductive black robe. “You look awful. Are you still worried about Seb?
“You said it yourself. He’s 18 now. He’s an adult. We can’t treat him like a child anymore. So, don’t worry. Maybe he’s just upset and went on a little trip to clear his head with some friends.”
As Keith said that, he wrapped his arm around Cassandra’s neck.
With Sebastian out of the picture, he was just one step away from securing his position as the head of the Yeager family.
That last step was to sleep with Cassandra.
Keith intended to take full advantage of Sebastian’s absence to make Cassandra fall for him entirely, to have her desire him completely and become his, With that thought in mind, he gently reassured Cassandra as he leaned closer to her. “Cassie, you’re too tense. Let me help you relax,”
As he spoke, he reached toward a place on Cassandra’s lower body that should never have been touched.
However, before his hand could reach the part of her body he longed for, Cassandra suddenly shot out her hand and gripped his neck tightly.
“Ugh!” Her grip was strong, and Keith’s breath was cut off. He struggled. “C–Cassie y–you’re hurting me! Let go!”
But Cassandra didn’t release him. In fact, she only tightened her hold.
“Seb has cancer.” Her gaze was colder than the harshest winter snow. “But why did the doctor say he was fine when I took him to the hospital that night?
Keith’s expression shifted noticeably. His eyes betrayed a hint of guilt.
However, he quickly composed himself and tried to defend himself calmly. “I–I don’t know! I don’t even know that doctor! Maybe… maybe he made a mistake during the checkup?”
Unfortunately, this clever act was no longer enough to fool Cassandra.
“Is that so?” Cassandra’s eyes narrowed with lethal precision. “Then why did my people just find out that the doctor who checked Seb was your half- brother?
Keith’s face drained of all color at once. He had never expected her to uncover this.
Keith was an illegitimate son. The hospital where Cassandra had taken Sebastian for his checkup that night was owned by Keith’s biological father, Caleb Jefferson.
However, Caleb had never acknowledged Keith as his son. No one knew Keith even existed.
When Cassandra had hired him to pretend to be her lover, she had done only a surface–level investigation. So, she never suspected any connections between him and the hospital.
Now she finally knew, but unfortunately, it was all too late.
