With Keith’s subtle prodding, Cassandra quickly assumed that Sebastian had run away from home in a fit of anger.
Her temper flared “He ran away over something so trivial? He’s completely out of line!”
Spring Cassandra so angry, Keith couldn’t help but feel a flicker of satisfaction inside. But on the surface, he pretended to be deeply concerned for Sebastian
Frowning, he said with feigned worry, “Why is Seb so impulsive? Cassie, he probably hasn’t gone far. You should send someone to look for him. The world’s so chaotic right now, and he’s just a kid. It’s dangerous for him to be alone out there”
Cassandra’s expression darkened. “A kid? He’s already 18!”
In Clacton, turning 18 meant adulthood. And adults were expected to take responsibility for their actions
But Sebastian was still as childish and impulsive as ever, showing no signs of improvement,
At the thought of that, the anger Cassandra had barely managed to suppress flared up again. With a cold expression, she said, “If he doesn’t want to come back home, then let him stay out there. Spread the word no one is allowed to look for him!”
Her words left Keith elated.
Sebastian was finally out of the picture. Soon, he’d solidify his place as Cassandra’s legitimate partner.
However, despite her stern words, Cassandra couldn’t help but relent.
After all, she had raised Sebastian herself, nurturing him with the utmost care and love. Yes, he was spoiled and being unreasonable now, but she couldn’t just abandon him
Cassandra knew that it something were to happen to him out there, she would regret it for the rest of her life.
So, despite her harsh words, she secretly sent someone to look for Sebastian the very next day.
But no matter how many people she sent, Sebastian was nowhere to be found.
“Ms. Yeager, I’ve contacted all of Mr. Lowell’s classmates, from kindergarten to college. They all said that Mr. Lowell never reached out to them throughout the entire summer, and none of them have seen him,”
Yeager, I’ve searched all of Mr. Lowell’s regular hangouts, but there’s no trace of him anywhere.”
“Ms. Yeager, I discovered that Mr. Lowell donated all his belongings to Sunshine Children’s Home a week ago, I saw his collection of cotton dolls and some of his clothes and bags there. Should we retrieve them?”
One by one, her subordinates returned with their reports, but all they had were useless updates. Sebastian was still missing, and they hadn’t found a single useful lead
That was until Cassandra’s assistant, Karla Prary, returned with shocking news. “Ms. Yeager, the private investigator I hired has just found out that Mr. Lowell has had his state ID deactivated ”
Cassandra froze. “What did you say?”
In Clacton, deactivation of state ID typically required a trip to the local police station.
Without delay, Cassandra stormed into the police station and found the staff member who had processed Sebastian’s paperwork. Her fury was palpable as she asked, “Why was Sebastian Lowell’s state ID deactivated? Who authorized this? He’s still alive! How could you possibly approve this?”
The staff member was startled but tried to maintain composure. “Miss, please calm down. Take a seat and let’s talk it out. I do my best to answer your questions.”
Fearing Cassandra would lose control again, Karla quickly spoke up, “Apologies for the outburst. We’re Sebastian Lowell’s family. We’ve just been notified that his state ID was deactivated, but he’s still alive. How could this happen? Could you please check and see what’s going on?”
“Sebastian Lowell?” The staff member’s expression shifted to one of realization. “Oh! Yes, I remember him–a strikingly handsome young man with a gentle demeanor. He left quite an impression on me
“About ten days ago, he came here to request the deactivation, claiming he had terminal cancer and only a short time left to live
“Normally, deregistration is processed by family members after someone passes away. Since his request didn’t follow protocol, I initially refused to process in
“You didn’t process it?” Karla asked, shocked. “Then why were we notified that it’s been completed?”
“Let me finish,” the staff member replied. “I didn’t process it at first. But a few days later, a representative from a cryonics research team came by to deactivate Mr. Lowell’s state ID.
“This research team has handled similar procedures with us before. I’m not exactly sure how it works,
s, but from what I understand, they free Individuals with terminal illnesses and plan to thaw them out hundreds of years later.
“Anyway, once they’re frozen, even if they’re not technically dead, they won’t wake up for centuries. To prevent others from misusing their identities, the research team would come here after freezing someone to temporarily deactivate their state IDs.
“If, in the future, these frozen individuals wake up, they can come back here to restore their state IDs ”
