Chapter 38
ISABEL’S POINT OF VIEW
Amidst the protest in the pack, the brothers led me toward the cemetery for Grandma Shu to be laid to rest. I had a shawl wrapped around my neck, and the urge for revenge burned in my heart.
Even though I did not have the slightest idea who the murderers were or where they came from, the fact that they se innocent woman to an early grave was enough to break my heart.

“She’s been laid to rest before we brought you here, my love. We did not want the pack members causing more trouble at the funeral,” Hayden revealed, and I nodded as my eyes glistened with tears, which were about to roll down my eyes. Behind the shades, I was trying so hard not to break down.
“She did not deserve what this person did to her, Hayden…” I trailed off as my body shook with uncontrollable emotion.
“I know, my love. I promise we will get to the bottom of this. Hector and I are looking into the whole situation, and it’s only a matter of time before we find out how everything happened, I promise you,” he assured me, and rubbed my hands against each other nervously.
“I want a moment alone with her,” I muttered, and his eyes softened in my direction before they decided to give me some
space.
We were the only ones at the funeral because no one really cared enough to attend the funeral of the woman they found weird.
“Grandma Shu…” I cried out as the tears I was trying to hold rolled down my eyes all over again.
“It’s me, Isabel. You loved and took care of me like I was your biological daughter. Despite everything everyone else had to say, you trusted and believed in me with your heart. At this point, I’m at a loss for the right words to tell you how much you mean to me…” I trailed off as tears rolled down my eyes.
“Just like
you would have said if you were here, I won’t give up, Grandma Shu. I will stand strong and face all of this head–on just like you would have wanted me to. I’m doing this for myself and to protect your beautiful memories,” I declared as I wiped away the tears that rolled down my eyes.
At some point, I felt weak and heartbroken. Hector came with Hayden and they led me into their car outside the gate of the cemetery.

home, and Savannah walked over to me and pulled me into a warm hug. “Everything will be okay, Isabel. You just have to be very strong. I know it’s hard. Who better than I would understand what it means to be separated from someone we cared so much about? Grandma Shu will get the justice she deserves,” she reassured me, and I nodded my head while sniffing back my tears. I had a lot on my mind. My head was spinning.
Whether or not the pack members had plans to destroy my life, I will get to the bottom of this.
“Do you want anything else, my Luna?” Gina asked curiously as she bowed in respect.
“No, I don’t want anything else. I just want to rest,” I said, and she muttered an ‘ok‘ before making her way out of my room.
Grandma Shu is dead, and deep down, I felt like I could have done something about it, yet I just let it happen. It made guilt rush through my heart over and over again.
That night, as I shut my eyes to sleep, I had a nightmare where I was chased by someone I couldn’t see. It scared the wits out of me, I woke up sweating like had nearly died and just escaped death.
“Breathe, Isabel,” I heard Ryna, my wolf’s voice, and it helped me relax.

“I had the nightmare again, Ryna. I don’t know what to do anymore. Losing Grandma Shu has destroyed me,” I said, and as I rubbed my forehead while trying to relax, my mind went back to the dream as I tried to put the piece of the puzzle together.
I was being chased in my dream, and I showed nothing but fear, the same fear I felt for the powers that overwhelmed me. What if it’s just an interpretation of me running away from my powers and what would happen to me in the long run? I need to talk to Gina right now.
Wearing my room slippers, I took hurried steps toward the servants‘ quarters and paused on my way when my eyes met Aunt Lucia just outside the hallway, making a phone call.
“I don’t care. I’ve had enough of having to see that girl around this house. Either you do something about it, or stop asking me to grace your bed!” she snapped angrily, and I hid behind the large pillars.
Who was that on the other end of the call? I was not a fool, I knew I was the girl she was referring to.
The question is, what did she have in mind for me? Instead of heading toward Gina’s room, I turned around and returned to my room. The last thing I wanted was to get into a long talk with someone who would go out of her way to put me down.
I made a mental note to be very careful. I’ll definitely tell Gina everything I heard tomorrow morning.
“What?” Gina asked in shock as her eyes met mine. We were currently in my room, and Savannah looked like she would faint from the piece of information.
“I’ve always known the witch was up to no good, but coming down to this extent is definitely something I did not expect from her,” she uttered angrily.
“I felt like confronting her, but then, she hates the idea of them freeing me from the dungeons, which also makes everything about her even more suspicious.”
“She might have taken care of my brothers, and paraded around as my mother’s loving sister, but something tells me she’s just a backstabber, trying to get what she wants cunningly. We need to be very careful,” Savannah advised, and I stared blankly into the space.
AUTHOR’S POINT OF VIEW
Yuna stared at Lisa as she glared daggers at her. The fact that the woman wanted her to go out of her way and try to hurt Isabel was just uncalled for.
The news of Grandma Shu’s demise had shaken her quite badly, and she was trying her best to be calm about it, even if deep down she wanted to fight for justice!
After all, Grandma Shu and Isabel did not deserve all the hate and pain they received from pack members just because they were unique.
“What exactly has Isabel done to you to receive such a level of hatred? The last time I checked, you are her mother, Yuna snapped angrily, and Lisa grabbed her by the hair, then proceeded to slam her head on the table, making her cry out in agony as drops of blood rolled down her nose.
“Don’t you dare try
to act smart with me, Yuri! Your father owes me one as much as you and your stupid, good for nothing mother. But then, this will be our dirty little secret if you do exactly as I have told you to,” she said, and Yuri cried helplessly.
“Isabel was never my child to begin with. How could anyone even believe I would birth such an unfortunate girl? Someone who cannot protect herself from the madness around her? She’s cursed!” Lisa snapped angrily.
“We wasted years raising her, thinking she would bring good fortune as the seer promised us, but it’s quite obvious my husband and I wasted our time on a stupid girl who cannot repay our kind deeds!” she snapped angrily.
Yuri had it on the tip of her tongue to ask her what she meant by kind deeds. Ever since they were very young, she knew

how Lisa never let go of a moment to downgrade and break Isabel apart, and now she was talking about good deeds. How could anyone be so cruel and heartless, she wondered?
“I’m giving you time to get me what I want, or get ready for me,” Lisa threatened as she made her way out of the room.
Yuri had just one thought in mind, which was to leave the pack like she was never even there in the first place.
A lot of things were already going wrong. She felt bad for Isabel, everyone was under the influence of Jena’s lies. She wouldn’t have been surprised if the prophecy was proven to be a lie. She had to speak to Isabel and probably tell her the whole truth and the reasons why she needed to be extra careful.
Calling Isabel would not bring a positive result, considering the fact that they had fallen out of their friendship. So she did the one thing she didn’t think she would be doing anytime soon, she wrote a letter to her.
She needed to meet with Isabel and tell her the one truth she was supposed to keep to the grave if she wanted to protect her family from harm’s way. Lisa and her stupid daughters were out to destroy, and they would stop at nothing to get what they wanted.
“I’m so sorry, Mom. I’m so sorry, Dad,” she muttered under her breath as she thought of Lisa’s threats.
Pulling out an ink and a plain white paper, she started penning down her thoughts.
“Dear Isabel, I hope this finds you well…” she trailed off.
Even if she didn’t write her identity, she needed to pass on important information, and she have to be fast about it.
