Chapter 16
ISABEL’S POV
“Yunal”
“Yuma!” I called as I rushed over to her. She looked different. Iler eyes flashed with hurt as they landed on me. It was quite evident that I was the last person she wanted to see right now.
“What do you want, Isabel?” she demanded, removing her hand from my hold. Taking a deep breath in and out, I tried to ignore the pain from her obvious rejection.
“Yuna, we need to talk. I’ve been meaning to talk to you since that incident happened…I hesitated.
“What incident?” she inquired, and I opened and closed my mouth like a fish. Did she really put everything behind her?
Yuna, you know I would never leave you in prison to rot, right? questioned, and she laughed bitterly.
Your actions didn’t prove that. In fact, you never reached out to me even after you must have heard I was no longer in prison. Do you know how much it hurt me? I know I shouldn’t have risked your life by taking you into the woods with me, but did I deserve any of that?” she snapped angrily.
“Please, let me explain… I begged as I tried to hold her hand, but Yuna wasn’t having it. My sweet best friend was gone, and the girl standing in front of me wanted nothing to do with me.
Her reaction to my words attracted the other students, and they turned in our direction. I could hear them whispering. amongst themselves
“I stood by you through it all. The one time I needed you, you chose the princes over me. Maybe everyone was right, you care about nobody else but yourself!” she burst out angrily and made her way out of the scene.
Pain spread through my heart, and I took hurried steps out of the hallway. This was going to be one of the most trending news stories in school today, but I didn’t really care.
True to her words, Yuna didn’t talk to me and sat far away from our usual seat. This wasn’t the first time I faced rejection, but this one hurt deeper.
“Oh, it’s going to be a great party, some students whispered amongst themselves as they chuckled.
From their conversation, I gathered there was a school party coming up, hosted by my sisters. I wasn’t surprised, though, they had always been the party freaks, while I hid myself in the confinement of our house, like the perfect child.
I’ve had moments in my life when I craved to be like my sisters, strong, loved, intelligent, and the desire of every male in the pack. Too bad the moon goddess had her own plans, I thought as a bitter chuckle escaped my lips.
I turned around and shut my locker, sighed softly, and then turned, only to bump into someone.
“Hey, sister,” Amelia greeted teasingly as she passed me a bag. I stared at it curiously as her eyes softened in my direction.
“Oh come on, sis, I won’t hurt you,” she remarked, rolling her eyes. Amelia handed the bag over to me with a huge smile. I checked the contents of the bag, and it was a dress.
“A dress?” I gasped, unable to hide my surprise. This was the first time I was receiving a gift from any of my sisters or even anyone in particular.
“Yes, it’s a dress, and I got it from the finest designer in the pack just for you, Isabel,” she explained, and I tried to hide how uncomfortable 1-felt at her gesture. She was trying to be nice to me.

“But I don’t want it. I blurted out before I could stop myself.

“You need the dress for our party. Trust me, you’re going to love it there,” she insisted, and I shook my head. What would I be doing at the party? Yuna was no longer on good terms with me, everything seemed to be falling apart, and I didn’t want to take any chances.
“You forgave me for the way I treated you in the past. Coming to this party with me means you trust me,” she pointed out, raising her eyebrows, and I took a deep breath in and out. Rejecting her offer again might hurt her in a way I didn’t intend
“Fine, I will attend the party,” I agreed, and she squealed excitedly as she pulled me into a hug, then kissed my before walking away

I sighed at her energy, then found my way back to the pack house. After the incident in the woods, I’m now staying at Hayden and Hector’s house for safety reasons.
My mind went back to my conversation I had with Hayden and Hector about the curse, and it made me even more curious. Celeste surely had a lot up her sleeves when she placed that curse on them for a crime their father committed.
Then there’s Aunt Lucia, who doesn’t even like the fact that I’m still breathing. If the middle aged woman had her way, would slit my throat..

I like the fact that Hector was being civil with me. He doesn’t like me as his mate, but at least he’s not throwing it in my as he always does.

“Ouch. I’m so sorry, I cried out as I bumped into someone. “Are you okay?” came his concerned voice that had me giddy in my stomach.
I was just thinking about the devil, and here he was standing right in front of me. “You should watch where you’re going, Isabel. What if you get hurt? Hector scolded, and I nodded slightly, unable to look him in the eyes. These brothers would be the end of me.
“So how are you feeling now?” Hector asked, and I noticed he was walking around with some paints.
“Can I help?” I offered, and his eyes moved over to the bucket of paint in his hand.
“Sure,” he replied. The amusement on his face made me smile as we walked together towards the garden.
“You paint?” I questioned when I noticed the canvas,
“Yes, I paint,” he answered and said nothing more as he sat down quietly.
“Heard you had a fight with your friend,” he mentioned, and I raised my eyebrows.
“How did you find out?” I wondered, and he chuckled at my lack of knowledge.
“After the stunt you pulled the other time, we figured it was best we keep our eyes and ears open. Any wrong move, and it’s over for the pack, Isabel. Try to stay safe,” he advised as he focused on what he was doing
“What are you doing?” he asked when I sat down on the empty chair next to him.
“I want to watch. I don’t have anything to do, I responded, and he smiled.
“You’re free to do that as long as you don’t make any noise,” he warned, and I nodded in agreement.
Watching him paint was such a beautiful sight. The way he paid attention to the details of the painting made me smile.

Chapter 16
“Hayden!”
“Alpha Hayden,” one of Isabel’s sister called out to me, smiling and trying to catch her breath.
“I’m Amelia,” she announced, extending her hand for a shake. My eyes moved from her hand to her face, then back to her hand.
“T… huh…” she mumbled, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment as I waited for her to finish whatever she had in mind Amelia must be stupid if she thinks I don’t remember her. Her skirt was too short, barely covering anything, and her top tight, flaunting her breasts.

“I know you’re Amelia, Isabel’s sister,” I responded, and her eyes flashed with emotions I instantly recognized. Jealousy a hatred, she couldn’t even hide it, not even for a second,
“Yes, Isabel’s sister,” she repeated, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Evelyn and I are hosting a party on Friday night. I wanted to invite you and Hector to the party…” she trailed off.
“We have more important things to attend to than parties hosted by the likes of you and your sister.” My words clearly didn’t sit well with her and she looked away angrily.
“Isabel is coming,” she declared, making me pause.
“What?” I blurted before I could stop myself. Is Isabel for real? These people have never hidden their dislike for her, and she thought it was normal to attend a party they invited her to?
invited her, and she agreed to come. Don’t tell me you’d let the poor girl attend a party full of werewolves who don’t like her, and without her prince charming?” she taunted, and I took a step closer to her.
“Stay away from Isabel,” I warned, and she smirked, biting her lower lip. Aside from her looks, Amelia had the dirtiest character.
“Oh, I’m not going to touch your mate. After all, she’s my sister. You know her reputation in the family. I’m only trying to be nice to her,” she remarked with a laugh.
Staying in this conversation would only infuriate me further, I shot her a final glare before leaving. I needed to give Isabel a piece of my mind. When I arrived at the pack house, she wasn’t in the sitting room.
“Have you seen Isabel?” I asked one of the omegas on duty. “She’s in the garden with your brother, he answered, bowing in
respect.
1 hurried to the garden, and there she was, her face in awe as she watched Hector paint.
“Isabel, I called, and her eyes shifted toward me, lighting up with excitement.
“Hayden!” she exclaimed happily.
“Brother,” Hector greeted, tilting his head.
“Amelia invited you to a party,” I informed her, and she seemed aken aback by my words.
“Yes, she invited me to a party. Evelyn is hosting it,” she confirmed, and I felt a pang of guilt at her excitement. She had no idea what those girls were planning for her. I’ve seen enough to know that the invitation had a hidden agenda.
“Ever since we were kids, I’ve looked forward to them treating me with love and respect. She even bought me a new dress,” Isabel explained, showing me the dress. Hector subtly gestured for me to let it go.
Telling her Amelia might be up to no good would only hurt her further. “We’ll attend the party. Hector stated, and I gave him a nod

“Really? Thank you so much she smiled, her face full of happiness.
Whatever Amelia and Evelyn had planned for her would come to an end, because we would be there to protect her.
No matter what happens.
