Chapter 60
The banquet was far from over, and Nicole was worried that she would embarrass herself if she got drunk. She was still conflicted over what to do when an arm suddenly wrapped itself around her waist.
Startled, Nicole lifted her eyes to look at the newcomer, who had also attracted Heidi’s attention. Aaron stood next to her with his chin slightly lifted. He had taken Nicole’s hand, and the nerves on the back of his own hand throbbed prominently.
“Nicole’s alcohol tolerance isn’t very good,” he explained. “I’ll accept all your well–wishes for her, and I’ll drink in her stead.”
Satisfaction warmed Heidi’s heart upon hearing Aaron’s words. She was never familiar with him, and Monica had always treaded carefully around him. They assumed that Aaron had taken after Arthur Compton, the previous president of Compton Group, who often created waves in the business world but kept people at a distance in his personal life.
However, after noticing the way Aaron treated Nicole, Heidi no longer worried about allowing Nicole to marry him.
Nicole’s heart was racing. She did her best to maintain her mask of calm as she got her breathing back under control. “Thank you, Mr. Compton.”
She could feel Aaron’s gaze sweeping over her after the words left her lips. When they locked gazes, she was unable to ignore the ripples that radiated from deep within the whirlpool of his eyes, and she felt herself freezing up.
Nicole blinked. It took a long moment for her to realize what Aaron wanted from her. They had already made their relationship public, so it would be strange for her to continue calling him “Mr. Compton, wouldn’t it? She would even run the risk of exposing their a
carrangement.
Nicole’s lashes trembled as she coughed lightly. She opened and closed her mouth for a few moments before finally saying in a timid voice, “Thank you for considering my well–being… Aaron.”
It was so embarrassing! Nicole wanted to find a hole and hide herself in it.
On the other hand, Aaron was greatly pleased. His demeanor softened and his voice was gentle when he said, “Go rest for a little while.”
Nicole hastily took her leave, she could feel flames burning in her gut while her brain had descended into a state of chaos. She didn’t know if it was because she was getting drunk due to the alcohol, or if it was because of Aaroe..

A short distance away, Monica gripped a wine glass in her hand. She was exerting so much force that the glass was on the brink of shattering. She was unable to conceal the anger and jealousy that swirled in her eyes as she stared at Nicole’s retreating figure.

In the past, whenever the Boyds hosted a banquet, Monica would always be the star of the event, and the guests would always try to curry Monica had been demoted to a part of the background that night. Even Kenneth and Heidi had ignored her for the entire night,

Upset, she chewed on her bottom lip. After tempering the jealousy in her eyes, she rose to her feet and approached Aaron with a wine decanter clutched in her hand. Aaron was surrounded by a few presidents of different companies who were trying to seize the opportunity to improve their relationships with him. Monica squeezed her way into their group before saying gently, “Congratulations on getting together with Nicole, Aaron! Here, let me toast you. I also hope that you can get married to Nicole soon!”
Aaron’s expression remained the same even after hearing Monica’s words. He only glanced at her brietly, arching an eyebrow when he took in the innocent smile plastered on her face. He then watched quietly as she poured the red wine from the decanter into lis glass.
“Cheers!”
Aaron considered Monica’s elegant and graceful demeanor. He shot one last glance at her before drinking the wine
A few minutes later, the drag began to take effect. He could feel his body heating up as an uncontable feeling assaulted his senses relentlessly. Aaron massaged his brow before taking his leave, heading toward the restroom.
