Aaron looked up from his laptop and glanced out the window. The atmosphere around him remained tense and commanding
Nicole followed his gaze. The authorities and reporters had gathered outside Silverwood Hospital
Robert and Nigel walked out with deathly pale faces.
The reporters wasted no time. They thrust microphones in from of them and bombanded them with questions.
But neither of them answered, their faces clouded with great unease.
Nicolle widened her eyes, the shock palpable in her expression
Robert and Nigel were already under investigation? So they trally were hiding something!
Aaron spoke in a low and steady voice. “Don’t you want to get out and take a look?“
Nicole realized he had brought her here to witness this dramatic turn of events. Her heart skipped a beat, and she couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Mr. Compton, was This your doing?”
“It was nothing, just a small matter,” Aaron replied.
Catching Aaron’s look, the driver got out and opened the door. The confusion in Nicole’s eyes cleared. This time, she got out of the car on her own without hesitation
Aaron got out as well and walked over to her. His hand “accidentally brushed against hers.
Nicole quickly looked down and recoiled her hand nervously.
Aaron narrowed his eyes slightly but said nothing.
Robert spotted Nicole almost immediately and rushed toward her as if he had just found his lifeline.
Seeing this, the reporters crowded in even tighter
“Dr. Cohen, why aren’t you responding? Are you unable to answer our questions, or have you come to realize your mistakes?”
But Robert’s eyes were fixed on Nicole at that moment. Disregarding the attempts to stop him, he hurried straight to her.
Robert’s expression was intense. Without a word, Aaron stepped in front of Nicole to shield her.
When Robert noticed that it was Aaron in his way, his expression tumed even more horrified. It was Aston Compton Mr. Compton!
Robert stammered, barely managing to get a few words out. “Dr. Law… Dr. L.–Lawrence.”
Nigel’s eyes were immed with red. His voice trembled as he said, “Nicole, this was all a misunderstanding. We made a mistake in faulting you. I’ll go and launch – proper investigation right away!
“I swear we’ll give you the justice you deserve. Is that alright?”
Robert hadn’t expected Nigel to switch sides so quickly. But when he met Aaron’s eyes, he had no choice but to swallow his pride.
“Nicole, we’ve worked together for so many years. We clearly jumped to conclusions about you. Let me fix it by realigning your role, okay?”
Realign her role?
Soother words, it was a promotion and a raise
The comers of Nicole’s lips twitched, but her expression remained unchanged the entire time.
The reporters had also recognized Nicole by now and crowded forward to question her.
“Dr. Lawrence, may we ask—will you be returning to duty at the hospital? salverwood Hospital made you the scapegoat this time. What’s your current state on it?
Nicole looked at the reporters before her. There was no way she could dodge the question. But this was also the perfect opportunity to make her stance clear. It would save her from future complications with the hospital
She said lightly, herexpression as composed as ever, “I will not return to Silverwood Hospital.”
Nicole’s statement was a death knell for Robert. His last–ditch altempt to offer her a promotion to save his position had failed.
Robert glanced fearfully at Aaron and didn’t dare say a word.
