Chapter 23
Nicole calmly and steadily met the woman’s hysterical gaze head on. “You’re calling me unethical. Do you have any proof?” she asked.
The woman struggled violently, trying to wrench herself free. When she failed, her face contorted with fury as she stared at Nicole
“I know the woman next to you is rich. She is the wife of the CEO of Boyd Corporation, but having power doesn’t mean you get to rewrite the truth.
“Wrong is wrong. Why can’t you admit it? Does being a doctor give you the right to do whatever you want?”
Heidi’s patience had finally reached its limit. She barked, “Stop standing there. Call the police!”
doctorals
“Go ahead. Call them!” the woman hissed. “Even if I die, people will rise and demand justice. A murderer goes to jail, but when a doctor kills someone, it’s just a medical dispute. Where’s the justice in that?”
Her voice was sharp and cold, each word laced with so much anger that it left Heidi momentarily breathless.
But Nicole kept her eyes on the woman, quietly observing. Beneath the rage, she saw something else–desperation and the unbecoming of a person
The woman wiped her face, trying to clear her vision.
Nicole stepped forward and turned to Heidi “Mom, I’m a doctor. Let me speak to her. If she was wronged, I want to help.”
However, Heidi looked unconvinced. “Nicole, this woman isn’t mentally sound.”
“But Mom, if someone’s unwell, isn’t it the doctor’s job to see them?”
Seeing Nicole’s insistence, Heidi hesitated, then finally gave in with a reluctant nod
“Tine But the bodyguards stay. And 1’m calling the police. You were splashed with paint in front of a crowd. That’s not something we can just brush off.”
Nicole smiled softly at her mother’s protectiveness. “Okay.
She then walked over to the woman. The moment their eyes met again, the woman’s jaw tensed. If her hands weren’t pinned, she might have attacked Nicole.
Nicole felt her chest tighten as she began, “I can see that something terrible must’ve happened to you. That kind of rage doesn’t come from nothing. I know you’re not one of my patients. So, will you tell me what made you this angry?
The woman spar. “Don’t act like you care. I’ve had enough of people like you–doctors who pretend to be saints.”
With a nod, Nicole responded, “Medical disputes have always been tough to resolve. But if I could help you, would you trust me, just this once?
“You said that I’m twisting the truth because I have power. But what if I have the power to tight for you?
The woman faltered at Nicole’s words. Her expression wavered and then, finally, she cracked.
“My father died because the hospital gave him the wrong medication. Then they lied about his time of death and pinned everything on us. They claimed that it was our fault for not giving him the right medicine.
“I went to the hospital, hired a lawyer, and filed a police report. But no one helped. These people with money and influence–they cover for each other. The moment their interests are threatened, they start twisting the truth.”
Her eyes burned with hatred as she continued, “And you’re no different! I saw the reports online. I won’t let a fraud like you hurt anyone else. My dad is already que. Are more families supposed to suffer because of people like you?
Each word from the woman pierced Heidi’s heart like a blade. As a mother, she couldn’t bear to hear her daughter being falsely accused.
However, Nicole didn’t flinch. She asked, “Can you tell me which hospital it was?”
*Silverwood Hospital,” the woman snapped.
Nicole’s expression darkened. Things at Silverwood Hospital were already a mess.
She gave a slight nod and stated, “I got it. I’m trying to clear my name, too. If I find the truth you’ve been searching for, I’ll be sure to tell you about it.”
