Chapter 68
Aurora thought. So Jaxon is a guy who relies on my mom but then abandons her.
Once Aurora came to her senses, she grabbed the key information from the staff member’s words. Did you say Jaxon’s company is about to go public?”
The staff member ignored her calling Jaxon’s name and continued to smile as he replied, “Yes. Crawford Furniture Company in which he holds shares, has completed its second round of financing. If all goes well, it could be listed by the end of next year.”
Aurora fell silent.
Jaxon’s company primarily sold mid- to high–end furniture, but she hadn’t heard about this in her previous life. At this time, they had acquired medical materials and prescriptions, thinking that the pharmaceutical business was more profitable and had already transitioned
Now that Victoria’s inheritance was firmly in Aurora’s hands, Jaxon naturally needed to seek other ways to boost the company’s development.
“Do you know what my mom went to Bradley Mountain for?” Aurora asked.
The staff member quickly answered, “I don’t know.”
But to avoid making customers think they were incompetent, the staff member added, “We inferred from records retained by the police that she had been to Bradley Mountain. Ms. Whitaker disappeared there without any signs of struggle. No one knows what Ms. Whitaker was doing in Bradley Mountain.”
The law firm also found this question puzzling. By calculating the timeline, Victoria should have just given birth not long ago and would have been recovering, so she shouldn’t have been trekking to Bradley Mountain.
“One last question. Aurora suppressed her chaotic thoughts and focused all her attention on the staff member’s answer. “Where is my mother’s family?”
Someone couldn’t possibly have appeared out of nowhere, yet Aurora had never met Victoria’s family.
Holding her breath, Aurora awaited Lizzie Law Firm’s response
The person said, Tm sorry, Ms. Crawford, we couldn’t find anything. We only discovered that Ms. Whitaker came to Mereida alone and did not use public transportation.”
This implied that Victoria hadn’t arrived in Mereida via trains, planes, or buses but through anonymous means like taxis or unlicensed vehicles. Even if she had taken a train or plane, surveillance was not advanced a decade ago, making it impossible to trace where she had come from.
“Did you find any photos of her?” Aurora was still unwilling to give up.
“No,” the staff member replied succinctly before hanging up.
Listening to the beeping sound of the call being disconnected, Aurora remained dazed for a long time.
The laboratory was so quiet that she could hear her own breathing. She mindlessly scrolled the mouse up and down, her gaze drifting on the computer screen, unable to settle anywhere specifically.
After an unknown amount of time, her phone beeped. She looked down and saw it was a spam message, then returned her gaze to the computer screen.
When Aurora checked the time again, it was already eight in the evening.

Emma wondered, Ti’s strange. Ms. Crawford is part of the family too. Why didn’t they inform her about such a big thing as Mrs. Crawford and Ms. Maura Crawford leaving?
However, this morning, Ms. Maura Crawford returned from Mercida High School looking very pale. Perhaps her condition might have worsened, so they left in a hurry
The next morning, Aurora came down from upstairs wearing sportswear.
Jaxon was sitting at the dining table having breakfast. Upon seeing Aurora, he began to lecture her, “You should study at home on weekends and not hang out with those turkeys.”
Aurora thought, ‘He talks as if I’m some kind of delinquent. He doesn’t even acknowledge that I ranked first at Mereida High School. Of course, he would prefer if Maura got first instead.
Aurora bit her lip, unwilling to talk to him. Expressionless, she grabbed a piece of bread and walked away.
Not receiving a response, Jaxon felt displeased. “Where are you going?”
“Just going for a walk outside,” Aurora said without turning back. If she mentioned she was going to Bradley Mountain, Jaxon would surely stop her, and she didn’t want to trouble herself.
