Chapter 6
Harry’s hesitation lingered in the air like the calm before a sterns. Finally, he gave a slow nod and said, “Yes, I do”
Aurora’s shoulders seemed to drop an inch, as if the weight of the world had been lifted off them. She exhaled a breath she didn’t realize she’d been bolding her relief palpable.
The manager setring the moment with a brisk efficiency, interjected with a practiced smile, “Take this young lady to the VIP room. I’ll be with her
shorth
The receptionist’s mouth hung open in shock, mentally thanking her backy stars she hadn’t been ride earlier. In her line of work, though the pay was good, crossing the wrong person could spell the end of her career. Straightening up, she said to Aurora with newfound respect. “Please, this
Aurora glanced back, mouthing to Harry, “Trust me”
Harry lived a smile, inwardly hoping that Aumma wasn’t leading him into truble.
The VIP room was in stark contrast to the bouling lobby outside–quiet, isolated, and secured like a fortress. When the manager entered, Aurora had already removed her mask, revealing a four far younger than he’d expected. Taken aback by her age but wary of her connection to Harry, the manager nulsed ever, bis densation a mix of curiosity and respect.
“How can I assist you. Miss?” he asked, his tone almost obsequious
Aurora didn’t waste time and laid out the situation. After mulling it over for a moment, the manager responded, “If you don’t have the information about the trust’s trustee, we’ll need to verify your personal data. We can cross–reference it with our beneficiary database to see if there’s a match.”
Aurora nodded. Tlease do it as soon as possible”
The manager performed a simple fingerprint scan, but when the results came back, he blinked in surprise. I’m sorry, Miss, but I’ll need to verity your reimal seat as well”
Aurora cooperated without hesitation. The results flashed on the screen widen swift, decisive beep, confirming the initial scan with an unambiguous clarity. The manager’s eyes widened in disbelief, his face draining of color as he processed the information.
“My apologies, Miss he stammered, his voice betraying a hint of shock. “It seems your mother does indeed hold significant assets with us. However, this is beyond my authority. I’ll need to call in our director”
If his initial respect for Aurora had been because of Harry, now it was entirely due to her own status. She was no longer just an unimportant high school kid to them–she was a VIP in her own right.
Aurora, though inwardly surprised by the size of the assets, kept her cool. She now understood how, in her previous life, Crawford Group had rapidly grown to dominate the Mercida market and even formed alliances with Jydratica. It had all happened after Jaxon had gained control of
these fund
Aurora nodded calmly, maintaining her composure, which only gained more respect from the manager, who, even more deferential now, added, Just to be thorough, we’ll also conduct a DNA test to compare with your mother’s. It will take some time, but we ask for your patience”
Aurora nodded in agreement, her demeanor serene
After several rounds of verification and a fair bit of waiting, Aurora finally received the assets her mother, Esme, had stored with Woodside Capital Management,
The number on the documents stunned her, even with her knowledge from her past life. She now had three hundred million dollars in cash along with a medical formula book and several properties.
She recalled the medical book from her childhood–left behind by her mother when the orphanage took her in
That very book, which had been confiscated by Jaxon when shar had returned to the Crawford family, had propelled Maura to fame as a world- renowned doctor. Aurora the rightful heir, had been forbidden from studying it. Even when she secretly learned from the book, she had kept her knowledge hidden for fear of angering her father.
Everything before hier now–the wealth, the properties, the formula–had been snatched away by Jason in her previous life. She finally understood how Crawford Group had pivoted to pharmaceuticals and skyrocketed in success at that time. It was all thanks to this book.
With the recent surge in popularity of traditional medicine, known for its effectiveness and lack of side effects a single formula could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And this book contained over a hundred of them. Woodside Capital Managements valuation of them at three billion dollars wasn’t an exaggeration
“Ms. Crawford, would you like to withdraw all of these assets?” the manager asked with the utmost deference

Aurora, aware that jaxon musuldn’t let go of this fortune so easily, shook her heal “Leave one hundred million dollars. I’ll withdraw the rest
The manager nodded brokly. Of course, flake care of that right away?
Worried that Janson might catch wind of her whereabouts, Aurora chose not to have Woodside Capital Management send a car for her. By the time she arrived home, the Cranford Lamily had already finished dinner and were lounging in the living room, glued to the TV.
“Where’ve you been coming hrane so late!” Jason’s voier rang out, his tone darp as always
Aurora held up bet shopping bag, flashing a smile that didn’t quite re
teach her eyes. “Just out buying some clothes. I’m starting school soon, and 1 don’t want the whole Crawford Emily to be the laughingstock because I’m still wearing my old worn–out clothes,”
a uspicious brene. “And where did you get the monry for that?” she asked, her wire dripping with disbelief. After all, she hadn’t given Aurora any pocket money and she wondered where the had gotten the cash to go shopping
Aurora slimigged lin expression casual. “1 post put it on the Crawford famdy tab. I did get into Mercida High School, remember! And didn’t Dad un heid reward mir with $100,000 for that” She made sure to swap “bet” with “reward“, throwing Jaxon a home for his pride
Jason’s face tightened at her jib, but he couldn’t exactly argue. He cleared his throat instead, waving off the tension. “You should be home early Stopwandering around an night. You should be more like Maura.
Of course, Jaxon couldn’t pass up an opportunity to sing Maura’s praises. It was as if every time he compared Aurora to Maura, he was trying to elevise Aurata and doing her a favor.
Yeah, yeah, got it” Aurora muttered, her indifference loud and clear
She turned on her heel and headed upstairs, her stomach growling, but no one bothered to ask if she’d eaten. ‘No surprise there, she thought
Once inside her room, she carefully locked the door, and then pulled out the book she’d been keeping close to her heart.
she didn’t open it immediately. Instead, she ran her fingers gently over the cover, the weight of it almost too much to bear. A parents love runs deep. Seeing all the preparations Esme had made for her tugged at something inside, a quiet reminder of the love she had once thought lost
In her past life, Jaxon had twisted that very saying, justifying his cruelty as tough love, painting his harsh discipline as guidance. He had called his exploitation a sacrifice for the greater good. He had dragged Aurora through seedy business deals, forcing her to witness the dark side of the corporate world, I while shielding Maura from even the slightest discomfort.
Aurora clenched her fists, her mind spinning. ‘How could I have been so bland to believe any of it? Even if Maura were Jason’s biological daughter. I’m still his flesh and blood. So why the blatant favoritism!
She had no answer, but then again, she no longer cared. Whatever affection or hope she’d once held for her father had long since dried up. All that remained was a singular goal–to crush the Crawford family, to see the empire she’d once helped build crumble to dust.
As these thoughts swirled, her mind wandered to Esme once more. In her past life, Aurora hadn’t cared about Esme, having been fed lies by Jaxon -how Esme had abandoned her, leaving them estranged and making her suffer for over a decade
Fueled by bitterness, Aurora had dismissed Esme’s legacy, even transferring her longing for motherly affection onto Stacy, constantly seeking the kind of love and approval Maura enjoyed that never came.
Looking back now. Aurora realized how naive she had been, caught between their hot–and–cold games and manipulations, becoming a mere puppet in their twisted game
Aurora’s guilt toward Exne crashed over her like a storm. Her eyes burned as she fought back tears, fists clenched so tightly that her knuckles tarned white. She even wanted to land a punch in her own face.
If Maura really was the product of an affair, then Jason had been cheating on Esme while she was pregnant. And Stacy would’ve been nothing but die homewrecker who slithered her way to the family
And Aurora had spent her life begging for scraps of affection from the very people who had for her mother’s world apart. Now she saw why her last life had ended in such tragedy–penniless, disgraced, and abandoned on the street. Aurora’s stomach churned at the thought.
She suspected that jaxon and Stacy must be behind her mother’s disappearance, and she was determined to uncover the truth no matter what it tock. She wanted to make sure Jason and Stacy would pay for what they had done.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, pulling Aurora from her spiraling thoughts.
“Aurora, are you in there?” Maura’s sickly sweet voice drifted through the door, laced with fake politeness, as if she were terrified Aurora might snap
Aurora quickly stashed the book away, composing herself. When she oprued the door, her face was unreadable. “What do you want?” she asked, her
