Aurora Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Do you really think Dad will take your side?Maurs kept going on and on about how ungrateful Aurora was Stop fooling yourself. After you offended the Newton family last time. Dad’s already fed up with you

Plus; my mom’s been by

by his side for yea

for years, and she even gave him a son. Do you honestly believe Dad would upser

set her just for some bastard like

Of course. Aurora knew all of this. In her previous life, Jaxon had been devoted to protecting Maura’s socalled innocence, letting her live a pampered life at home. Meanwhile, he used the excuse of trainingAurora to drag her along to social events, forcing her to drink and sleep with sleazy old men, all to close one deal after another

It was no different in this life either. Even when Aurora got the top spot at Merrida High School, he didn’t give her a single word of praise. Instead. he told her to learn from Maura’s pense and grace

Aurora breathed out a deep, frustrated sigh and rubbed her chest with a hint of discomfort. She had thought she was over it, but the ache in her heart proved otherwise

Just then, the faint sound of rustling came from the wall, pulling her out of her thoughts. She looked in the direction of the noise and saw Caleb and his men, dragging their injured bodies as they slowly crawled toward the exit. They were almost at the door

Aurora’s lips curled into a sneer, her voice dripping with ice. Looks like just breaking your legs wasn’t enough of a lesson, huh?”

The moment she said that, sweat immediately broke out across Caleb’s forehead. He braced himself on his uninjured hand, trying to push himself up, and forced a fawning smile. reading the situation perfecily

He awkwardly scratched his head and said. UhI saw you were having a great chat with Ms. Maura Crawford, so I figured I’d give you guys some space, you know? We’re just hired hands. We don’t know anything else. The rest doesn’t concem us”

Caleb had always known that one day he might end up in a mess like thisfalling into a ditch, so to speak. He’d considered it countless times since he first walked this path

But what really caught him off guard was who had caused him to trip. He’d expected a boxer, a martial artist, someone like that. Never in a million years would he have thought it would be a high school girl one who could be called pretty, at that

After hearing what Caleb had said, Maura screamed at the top of her lungs. You were hired by my uncle to take down Aurorat How could you chicken out just like that! Im going to tell my uncle, and don’t everthink about getting the rest of the money. I’ll also

Her chest heaved angrily as she stumbled toward the door, trying to stop them from switching sides to Aurora

Shut up“” Eric growled, hus menacing expression making Maura freeze in her tracks. Open your mouth again, and I’ll make sure you don’t see

tomorrow”

She stomped her foot in frustration, grumbling to herself, A thug’s a thug, no sense of professionalism whatsoever. They turn on me at the drop of a hat. I’m definitely telling my uncle. I’ll make sure they never get another job again and live in misery until the day they die

“Mi Crawford, where did you buy that powder?Caleb grinned, trying to cozy up to Aurora. Worried she wouldn’t spill the source, he quickly added, Ms Crawford, if you tell me, I’ll give you ten thousand dollars. No, I’ll give you 15 thousand dollars!”

He was so curious about the powder. If it weren’t for that, the three of them wouldn’t have lost. He figured that if they could find out from Aurora, they might have a shot at regaining the upper luand they had lost

Caleb also thought that once they knew the source, they could handle any job for wealthy clients way better than they had so

When Aurora stayed uleni, he assumed the offer wasn’t enough. 30 thousand dollars then. As long as you tell us, the three of us will take on any job. you need, whatever it is.He secretly hoped she’d finally take the bait

brir, sittinge on the ground facing Aurora, blinked his eyes. Reflected in his eyes was Maura, sneaking closer, holding up a syringe, hoping for a Chaner to make a comeback

Maura, seeing that Aurora’s attention was on Caleb and the oilters, quietly picked up the syringe that had fallen during the fight and inched closer

Eru noticed but didn’t say a word. Instead, he spoke up to draw Aurora’s attention. Ms. Crawford, if you tell us, we’ll keep our wond. Whether it’s the money or handling any job for you, we won’t—

Before he could finish spa

(spraking. Aurora, standing with her back to Maura, suddenly heard the loud whoosh of something slicing through the air, followed by Maura’s crazed, triumphant stream. Go to hell, Aurora The needle gleamed in the dun light, darp enough to make anyone flinch

But before Maura could strike, a loud bang echoed as something hard smashed into her head. Blood splattered as the eerie thud broke the silence in the warehouse, plunging everything into dead quiet

Chapter 40

Maura’s vision darkened as the iron rod in Aurora’s hand left a gaping wound on her forehead. Blood gushed down Maura’s brow, stinging her eyes and turning her vision red

Maura felt her head buzz, her brain spinning, and the world seemed to whirl around her. It took her a good while to come back to her senses

How…. How is this possible?she mumbled, pressing her hand against the wound as blood seeped between her fingers. The syringe had slipped. from her grip without her even realizing it, and she stared at Aurora as if she didn’t feel any pain. You shouldn’t have been able to dodge that! How could you possibly dodge it?”

Maura wondered, ‘I attacked Aurora from behind. Does she have eyes in the back of her head? That’s how she managed to take down the last person, so why didn’t it work on her? This isn’t fair

Aurora’s lips curled into a faint sneer as she pointed toward the incandescent light hanging above the warehouse. Your shadow gave you away. idiot”

Maura was taken aback, staring dumbfounded at the shadow beneath her feet. She couldn’t believe she had lost because of something as simple aða shadow

The warehouse had been quiet for barely 20 minutes before the sound of pounding and painful screams echoed again, startling the insect outside as if they were trying to outdo the noise, chirping louder and louder. This place was so remote that the night itself seemed to swallow up all the violence

The

spot Caleb had specifically chosen for Aurora had now turned into his own grave. He could scream for help, but no one would come to his aid

By then, all three men were drenched in blood, their injuries worse than before. Huddled together, they shrank back to their original positions

gazes toward Aurora filled with pure terror. Never in their wildest dreams did they think a girl of barely 16 or 17 years old could be this

ruthless

Aurora glanced at them and spoke up nonchalantly. Since you know my sister and I were having a nice chat, don’t go interrupting us, alright?”

Caleb and the others nodded frantically as if their heads were on springs, terrified that if they weren’t fast enough, this demon in human form would unleash another brutal beating on them. Got it. We got it.”

Aurora finally flashed a satisfied smile and turned toward Maura, who stood off to the side. Now, where were we? Let’s pick up from where we left

off

After seeing Aurora bear Caleb and his gang senseless, Maura felt every step Aurora took like a knife twisting in her gut, making her more and more

anxious

Stay away from me!Maura retreated step by step, her heart racing, a cold dread creeping up from her feet, consuming her whole body until she was trembling uncontrollably
