Chapter 30
“My brother’s calling. I’ll step out to take this,” Stacy said as she pushed the door open and walked out
As soon as Stacy left. Aurora found herself bored of staying in the room, so she decided it was time to leave.
home and get some rest. No need to come by tomorrow. Stacy will take care of Maura,” Jason said while walking Aurora to the door, still fussing over her.
People passing by couldn’t help but admire how attentive the father seemed.
Since Aurora’d just accepted his bank cand, she figured she should play the part of the dutiful daughter, at least for show. “I see,” she replied with a sweet smile, waving Jaxon goodbye. The moment she turned away, her unile vanished, and she casually tossed the bank card from one hand to the other, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
“Excuse me, young lady, could you tell me how to get to Room la?” an elderly woman asked, interrupting her thoughts.
Aurora led her down the hall and pointed to a door. “Just straight ahead, third door on the left.”
This hospital, being the largest private one in Mereida, was massive. It was easy for first–timers to get lost. After guiding the woman to the room. Aurora turned to leave, not dwelling on the encounter. It was Saturday, and she’d already finished her task of visiting Maura. It was time to go home and go through the medical book her mother had left her.
ist come inside but call me instead?”
Just as she passed by the fire escape, she overheard a familiar voice. “Why don’t you just come
Through the glass panel of the stairwell door, Aurora spotted Stacy, clearly deep in conversation.
Aurora had no interest in prying into anyone’s business, but Stacy’s next words made her pause. “You ran into Aurora” What’s that got to do wi me? As Maura’s uncle, you don’t even stop by to check on Maura while you’re at the hospital…..
Oh, are they talking about me? Aurora wondered.
She leaned against the wall and listened carefully, her eyes off the slightly ajar–door to the stairwell. She couldn’t hear the other side of the conversation, but Stacy’s voice was loud enough for her to catch most of it.

“Well, looks like you finally used your brain for once. If Maura knows how much her uncle cares about her, she won’t hold it against you. And make sure your guys do a clean job. That little brat’s sharp. I don’t want to be stuck cleaning up your mess later,” said Stacy on the phone
By now, Aurora had picced most of it together. She thought in her mind. So, the guy who took my picture earlier was Maura’s uncle. No wonder he looks familiar. It seems that letting Maura reap what she sowed this time hasn’t taught them a lesson after all. No surprise there–they have bigger
When Aurora died in her previous life, the rebranded Crawford Group had become a leader in the pharmaceutical industry. Even Beatrix, the Elegitimate daughter, had been openly accepted into the Newton family, thanks to the marriage of Josh and Maura. All the glory the Crawford family enjoyed had been built on what Aurora’s mother had specifically left behind for her.
Back in Mercida High School, the students in Class F were working their tails off, determined to outperform Class A. No matter when people walked by, they’d see Class F students buried in their books.
Aurora sat on the podium and was reading, while the students below took their test. She had prepared the exam based on last week’s lessons as a way to assess them. The school bell rang, signaling the end of the day. Aurora said, “That’s it for today’s test. Make sure to go over the material Carefully
Just then, Margaret packed up her bag, bouncing up to the podium with a bright smile and hopeful eyes. “Aurora, let’s go
Aurora nodded and replied. “Let me pack up my things”
With Maura sull in the hospital, Stary had been personally delivering Emma’s homemade nutritious soups to her every day. She event lud the driver that usually took Aurora and Maura to school pick up and drop off Emma instead.
Alter overbearing Stacy and her brother’s plan on Saturday, Aurora had been worried about running into danger on her own, so she asked
Margaret’s driver to give her a lift.
Ever since Aurora had chased off the thugs that had been bothering Margaret, Margaret practically worshiped her. When Aurora asked for her permission. Margaret didn’t even hesitate before nodding
At the school gair, Margaret’s family driver, Dylan, was leaning against the car and smoking. When he spotted Margaret approaching, he quickly stubbed it out and sprayed air freshener. By the time they got close, there wasn’t even a trace of the smell left.

“Thanks, Dylan,” Aurora said politely.
Dylan waved her off and said. “No problem at all. Since you helped out Miss McLean last time, Mr. McLean’s been talking about treating you to dinner to thank you properly”
After a bit of small talk, the three of them got into the car.
Meanwhile, just around the corner from the school gate, a group of shady–looking men were lurking and eyeing them from a distance.
Seeing Aurora get into the McLeans car, one of the men panicked and turned to the middle–aged man in front of him. “Caleb, what do we do! She’s in their car again, and I heard that the driver’s a retired boxer. Rushing in would be causing suicide”
It was their third day staking Aurora out. For the past two days, Aurora had also taken the McLeans car, and knowing how tough the driver was, they hadn’t dared to get close.
Rocco had already wired them the money. If they didn’t get the job done, their reputation in the business would take a nosedive. Who would hire them again! Caleb narrowed his eyes and watched the car drive off.
His henchman’s constant whining was getting on his nerves. He turned and snapped, “What’s the rush? Are you in a hurry to get to your grave? Back when we kidnapped the Lloyds youngest son, we staked him out for three months before making a move. It’s only been three days, and you’re already impatient?”
Caleb’s man, Tom, hung his head low but still muttered under his breath, “That’s not the same.
That boy was the golden child of the Lloyds, constantly surrounded by security. The price for that job had been high for the risk involved, so they had surely been more patient then.
But Aurora was different. The Crawford family barely cared about her. With no bodyguards or driver shuttling her around, she was an easy target, practically a gift from the heavens. Of course, they wanted to finish the job as soon as possible.
“Enough.” Caleb waved them off, irritation clear in his voice. “We’ll be back tomorrow. I don’t believe she’ll ride in the same car forever.”
He pocketed his phone and walked off. On the screen was a photo of Aurora–the same one that had been taken at the hospital. If Aurora had been there, she would’ve recognized the picture instantly
The sunset burned like fire and lit up half the sky.
Aurora’s shadow stretched long in the fading light as she bent down to say goodbye to Margaret by the car window. Her smile was innocent, and her eyes gleamed slightly in the golden rays of the setting sun, which cast a soft halo over her shiny hair.
Everything was softened by the glow, making the environment around seem so gentle and peaceful.
But as Maura stepped out of the car, that peaceful scene was the first thing she saw, and her smile slowly faded. The good mood she’d been in disappeared without a trace,
She thought, Didn’t Mom say she’d take revenge for me? Why is Aurora still standing here, perfectly fine? She is such an eyesore.
