Chapter 91
Aurora was stunned. She took the phone from her car and took a look. The name “Daxon was displayed on the screen. How could it be him? she thought.
Rubbing her temples, Aurora was so frustrated with Margaret that she hadn’t even checked the caller ID before lashing out.
Aurora cleared her throat, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks. “Sorry, Daxon, I thought you were my classmate. She’s been pestering me to attend her party, and I didn’t pay attention to who was calling” She then added, “I’m not usually like this”
Aurora had always hoped she would be the picture of calm and reliability in Daxon’s eyes, not someone prone to emotional
outbursts.
In truth, ever since Aurora was reborn and met Daxon again at the Lloyd family’s anniversary celebration, an ambition had quietly taken root in her heart. One day, Aurora wanted to stand on equal footing with him and sincerely thank him.
She said inwardly. Thank you for giving me clothes to cover my body in my previous life so I could leave with dignity. Of course, if I could help him with his career, that would make me even happier!
Daxon didn’t seem to mind the little misunderstanding and even teased her, “Well, now that you’re the top science student at Mereida, it’s no surprise you’re in high demand. Can I still book some time with you?”
“Absolutely.” Aurora responded without hesitation.
Seeing Daxon’s gentle expression, Annie tugged on his sleeve, signaling him to get to the point.
Daxon, understanding her unspoken plea, reached out to pat her head. “Aurora, do you remember our agreement? After your exams, I’d bring Annie to Mercida to visit you.”
Standing by Daxon’s side, Annie held her breath, waiting for Aurora’s reply.
“Of course, I’ll come to pick you both up.” Aurora said.
If Margaret knew how quickly Aurora agreed to spend time with others, she would probably cling to Aurora’s legs, crying in protest.
“Happy now?” Daxon teased after hanging up, noticing Annie’s relaxed expression.
Annie smiled, a bit more confident than when she first joined the Harrison family and even dared to talk back. “You’re always so busy, and I’m left all alone. Of course, I want to hang out with people my age.”
“When are we leaving. Daxon?” Annie asked, already eager to set off
“No rush,” Daxon replied. “Let me finish up
up some work first.”
Aurora had just hung up with Daxon when Margaret’s call came through.
“Rory, come on, come on… Margaret whined coquettishly from the other end.
-Aurora let out a long breath. Though she admired Margaret’s persistence, she still turned her down. “Sorry, I already made
plans with others. Maybe we can take a rain check?”
Margaret was stunned and asked cautiously, “Who? Don’t tell me, Rory, you have another best friend besides me?”
“It’s not that. When did I ever say you were my best friend?” Aurora responded instinctively. She thought. “I don’t remember ever saying that. Maybe Margaret dreamed it up?”

Margaret, however, spoke with complete conviction. “We’ve been through thick and thin together. If we’re not best friends, then what are we? Rory, you’re so heartless. I thought of you as fly best friend, but clearly, you don’t care about me at all”
By the end of her rant, Margaret was fake crying, her voice high pitched and grating, making Aurora’s ears ring.
Aurora held the phone away from her car, her patience thinning “Alright, I’m busy. Stop calling me, or I’ll block you number.
Margaret felt scared at Aurora’s words and said aggressively, “Rory, you’re mean. You’re a bad person.”
Aurora pressed her forehead in exasperation, thinking, I wonder how Margaret was raised. She’s nearly an adult but still as naive as a child, always pulling me into her childish antics.”
“I’ll call you when I have time. In the end, Aurora didn’t shut Margaret down completely.
In truth, there was a part of Aurora that envied Margaret. She had a safe harbor, a comfortable life where she could be carefree, living in her princess–like bubble without worrying, But Aurora’s life was different. Everything she wanted, she had 10 fight for.
Spending too much time with Margaret made her feel a little too innocent, but her world was one where wolves and tigers lurked around every corner, waiting for a single moment of weakness to tear her apart. Aurora couldn’t afford to relax. She hadn’t avenged her past yet, and her mother was still missing. There was no time to waste on frivolities.
Aurora’s phone rang again, snapping her wandering thoughts back into focus. After dealing with Margaret, the most troublesome of all, she wondered who could be calling now,
Jaxon… Aurora muttered, staring at the name on the screen. Her relaxed mood instantly grew tense again.
“What’s it?” Aurora answered, her voice cold and distant.
Jaxon’s temple twitched as he silently cursed her lack of gratitude. ‘I called her, and she can’t even show a little appreciation?
“Well, if you have nothing to say, I’ll hang up,” Aurora said coldly
Jaxon thought. That temper. Aren’t girls supposed to be gentler Why is she so stubborn and hard–headed? Can I really be blamed for not feeling sorry for her when she’s never learned to soften her tone?”
Taking a deep breath, Jaxon forced his anger down and tried to sound more fatherly. “Come on, Aurora, you’ve had your tantrum long enough. Isn’t it time you came back home?”
Aurora sneered, not sparing him any respect. “A tantrum! If I remember correctly, you were the one who pointed to the door that night and told me to get out. You wouldn’t even let me take the car in the middle of the night.”
Aurora thought, “The road from Terranex to the city winds through an empty mountain pass. It’s quiet enough during the day, let alone at night.
I’m just a teenage girl. Does it ever cross his mind that something could’ve happened to me? If Jaxon had even a shred of concern for me, he wouldn’t have been so heartless. Since he made the first move, he can’t blame me for not being forgiving
now
Instead of getting angry, Jaxon chuckled at her words, “Aurora, are you upset with me?” He thought, “That means she still cares, and if she cares, there’s hope to fix things.
“Alright, alright, I get it. I made a mistake, okay? Every day since you left, I’ve been thinking about you, Jaxon said with a sigh, twing to sound remorseful.
Aurora lowered her gaze, her eyes tinged with sarcasm. She reached out, absently fiddling with the cactus on her desk, filtering out Jaxon’s insincere words.

Aurora thought, “Thinking of me? Doesn’t he feel any guilt for saying this? In my past life, I obeyed him in everything, yet didn’t earn me even a sliver of genuine affection. Now that I’ve pposed him at every turn, he’s suddenly full of nostalgia? He’s not thinking of me.
