Chapter 40
At the Reed residence, Warren sat by the coffee table, personally making coffee for Marilyn
It was clear this warren really liked Marilyn, his future granddaughter–in–law.
“Jacobs may have come back, but I hear he’s bally injured. I’ve always been strongly against him joining the military, but if he hadn’t been forced to retire the to his injuries, he might have still stayed out there? Warren sighed.
Marilyn smiled gently, knowing exactly how to win over the elders. “Mr. Reel, Jacobs has a heart of loyalty. He’s your grandson, and it’s only right that he defends the country and makes a contribution to the notion”
Warren’s heart was filled with joy as he nodded with a smile. “Tui
His expression darkened. “Jacob’s uncle called, and he said facoli’s injuries are severe. A bomb hit his face, and it also injured his legs. I wanted to tell you sooner, but I was afraid you might not want to hear it”.
Marilyn’s face fell slightly, her heart sinking for a moment. But she quickly regained her composure and spoke up. “Mr. Reed, I don’t mind. He’s a hero, and I should take care of him
Warren nodded in satisfaction. “You’re such a sweet girl. To be able to marry you, that’s his good fortune.
Warren sighed deeply, chitching the beads in his hand with a look of sorrow. If only I had known, I never should have let him go..
Marilyn felt a slight panic in her chest. The Reed family’s only heir–had his face been distigured and his legs crippled? That would leave him completely useless”
However, this could actually work to her advantage. She never had any real feelings for Jacob Reed; her interest had always been in the Reed family’s connections and power, which would elevate both the Lewis family and her own status.
As long as Jarob was alive, she would have her chance to rise to the top.
“Mr. Reed. Master Jacob is back,” the butler said from the doorway, his voice low and raspy, his eyes looking red–rimmed
Warren was about to speak but choked up, his emotions overwhelmed. What’s this nonsense? He went to fight for the country. That’s an honor!” He snuffled, his strictness toward this grandson clearly masking the genuine affection he held.
Gripping his cane, Warren made his way out the door.
Outside, a military jeep pulled up. Tyson got out and opened the door, looking at Hayden inside.
Hayden was using a cover identity while working undercover, so it was crucial to keep his real identity hidden.
At this moment, Hayden’s entire head was wrapped in handages, leaving only his eyes visible.
Tyson hesitated for a moment, then bit back a smile and scolded, “You little.
nearby, everything will be ruined.
This is all for the job,” Hayden replied seriously. “II reveal myself now, and there are people from Lucas’s side o have to stay undercover for as long as possible”
Tyson shot him a disapproving book, knowing Hayden was right. He needest to stay vigilant.
Warren stepped out, and when he saw Hayden, he couldn’t hold back anymore; his fingers were trembling. “Jacob
Hayden was wrapped tightly in bandages, his voice shaky as he responded, “Grandfather.
strained, barely audible.
Tyson, worried Iss acting wouldn’t be convincing enough, quickly bowed to the old man. “Undle Warren, there’s still work t take my leave?
Warren wipril away a tear Tyson, May for a meal”
Tyson shook his head. “No, work is important”
Warren molded in sunderstanding

“Grandfather, we have internal rules. Please dont blame them, Hayden quickly responded
Warren wiped his tears and turned around, pouting at Marilyn, who lead come out behind him.

At that moment, Marilyn’s face was as white as sheet. She didn’t expect Jacob to be this badly injured.
He was practically useless now. If it weren’t for his status as the heir to the Reed family, Marilyn wouldn’t have wanted him.
Jacob, this is your future wife. Marriage is an important matter, and you must listen to me. Marilyn is a good girl. She’s waited for you for five years, Warren said, pushing the wheelchair forward, introducing Marilyn to Hayden.
Marilyn stiffly followed behind Hayden, her body tense. “Jacob… You’ve suffered so much these years… It must have been hard.”
“It was dangerous overseas. I suffered a lot, killed many people. Even now, I still get the urge to kill. If my legs weren’t broken. I’d be going after a few more, Hayden said lazily, deliberately locking eyes with Marilyn. “Now that I’m like this, are you sure you want to marry me?”
Marilyn paled in fright.
She had her own private hospital and was well aware of the dangers of battlefield–induced PTSD. If he snapped, he could very well end up killing
someone.
“You… you’ve fought for the country. No matter what happens to you. I will take care of you, Marilyn said, taking a deep breath, speaking. nervously,
“Really?” Hayden lifted his hand, pretending to reach for Marilyn’s hand. Marilyn instinctively screamed and took a step back.
Her eyes betrayed clear disdain, a fleeting moment of disgust that she quickly masked, but Hayden–having been undercover for five years–was too sharp not to notice.
Hayden sneered and looked at Warren. ‘Grandfather, is this the wife you found for me
