Chapter 136
Courtney managed to keep Hayden at home and came to Henisburg General Hospital herself.
Though on vacation, she still wanted to talk with Jay and Lorraine…
Courtney set up a group chat and sent a message: Lorraine, Jay, are you two free tonight?)
Jay was now being marginalized and moved to the emergency department. Despite being a hero back from peacekeeping missions, he received no promotion and was back on the front lines, so busy that he sometimes had no time for meals.
Lorraine had the Fraley family’s and Emily’s support, giving her the best treatment at the hospital.
Courtney couldn’t understand why Lorraine would want to take risks with such favorable prospects.
Zomlonia war–torn countries were never safe. Lucas was at large and could be hiding
Even though they were not going to South Weidan this time, those Zo anywhere. Going out on missions could be very risky.
Jay: I had the night shift last night. I’m about to fall over, but the crazy director made me cover a day shift today.
Courtney: [You can reasonably refuse.]
Jay sent a sigh emoji and wrote: [Ever since we returned from South Weidan, it seems James’s people have been targeting us. Lorraine is fortunate to have the Fraley family as her backup.]
Lorraine: Whoever wants that support can have it. I don’t care.
Courtney hesitated and texted: I’ve booked a private room at the restaurant across from the hospital for six–thirty tonight. I’ll be waiting for you.
Jay: [Okay, I’ll be there. You wait for us but don’t pay in advance. I’ll settle the bill afterward.]
Lorraine: Leave the bill to me. The Fraley family has plenty of money. It’s a waste not to spend it.
Jay posted a laughing emoji.
Courtney read their words and laughed softly.

During their five years in South Weidan, they had no access to mobile phones. Hayden was the only person with a phone, however, Courtney w permitted to use it because of his special status.
Courtney know how to use WhatsApp, but it took her a long time to get used to it after five years without a smartphone.
“Courtney!” Upon hearing that Courtney had arrived at the hospital, Austin rushed out quickly.
Yesterday, he went to the military compound but couldn’t enter
Courtney wouldn’t answer his calls, and he had no chance to contact her.
Courtney turned around to look at Austin. “I’m here for Lorraine. Dr. Gilbert, Do you need anything?”
Feeling Courtney’s cold attitude, Austin was hurt, his eyes welling up. “Courtney. Do you have to be so distant with me? I can’t believe you have no feelings for me at all*
“What feelings should I have for you? You cheated in our marriage, Courtney said sarcastically. “We shouldn’t meet anymore. My husband is very

possessive. He won’t be happy if he finds out we met.”
“Courtney, you don’t love him at all. You’re using him to upset me, Austin said confidently, clenching his fists, “I heard you donated all your money. You. wouldn’t have been so eager to donate it all if you truly loved and trusted him.”
Austin was upset that
Austin was upset that Courtney donated the money, but he thought again and assumed she was avoiding Hayden. Suddenly, it all made sense to him.
“Courtney.” Austin tried to take her hand. “Is it true that you donated all that money?”
Courtney took a step back, looking at Austin cautiously.
Austin sighed, standing still. “Courtney, even if you’re upset with me, marriage isn’t something to joke about. Marrying him is being irresponsible to yourself.”
“Austin, I suggest you see a psychiatrist.” Courtney regarded Austin with a calm and detached expression. She could now confront him rationally, as she no longer harbored illusions about him.
What she couldn’t see before, she now saw clearly. “I’ve donated the money without keeping a penny. Hayden wanted me to do it because it wasn’t the money he valued. Nor does he care whether I came from Henisburg. He valued me as a person.”
Courtney smiled bitterly, thinking, “When Austin was with me, it was probably because I am a local in Henisburg, and my parents have stable government jobs
‘He was only satisfied with my family background and thought I was easy to control. I couldn’t imagine how my life with Austin would have been if hadn’t gone to South Weidan
already pregnant even before I went to South Weidan. Not long
What would happen to me if I had been by Austin’s side for the past five years? Vera was already p after I married Austin, he slept with her. Even thinking about it makes me chill.
“Courtney, when will you grow up?” Austin sighed, “Your family had protected you too much, and your parents were just too good to you.”
Austin spoke wearily again, “With Hayden in that condition, do you think he can support you? Supporting a woman isn’t just about keeping her fed. You’re making things too simple.”
“I’ve got my hands and feet. Why should I rely on my husband to support me? We support and encourage each other. Why do you always assume others to be like you?” Courtney didn’t want to waste more words on Austin and turned to leave.

“Courtney, I didn’t mention this because I didn’t want to argue with you. But half of the money you donated came from my share. I was the one who to care of your parents during the years you were away,” Austin hesitated before speaking.
Courtney let out a sarcastic laugh as she looked at Austin. “I’ve already donated the money. Do you expect me to ask for it back for your sake?”
