Chapter 122
Just after she blocked Austin on both WhatsApp and his phone number, the world went quiet. However, it didn’t last long before he called from someone
else’s number.
Courtney thought that fustin was truly persistent, and she couldn’t even fathom what he was trying to achieve,
[Courtney, if you don’t pick up the phone, I’ll keep calling from different numbers. I don’t believe you won’t come back to work Austin texted her from
an unknown number
[Don’t you realize how dangerous it is for a woman like you to live alone with so much money?
(That Hayden guy is just a thug, and he’s definitely after your money, You’ve been duped by him. Is it he who told you to divorce for your assets, right?
I know you’d never come up with such a low tactic as taking the kids to threaten me, it must be this jerk teaching you | Austin persistently sent messages, cursing that Hayden was a sleazy jerk.
[Courtney, he’s only after your money. Do you really feel secure with those funds in your hands? That’s our parents inheritance, meant for both of us.
I can give it to you, but isn’t it risky for you to hold onto it alone? Austin kept texting, and it seemed that he was anxious. Every word seemed like he wa concerned about Courtney’s safety, yet all he mentioned was money.
Courtney snoored in mind, He isn’t worried about my safety at all. Instead, he is afraid that all that money in my hands would end up in someone else’s pocket.
[Courtney, can we talk? I want us to get back together. Don’t be stubborn, okay? Austin kept sending messages.
Courtney found Austin very unfamiliar, corily so. Courtney blocked the phone number where Austin sent messages and directly turn off the phone.
“Who is it?” Hayden asked, and then he sneakily moved on the bed, using the chance to pull Courtney into his arms, “Who called you? Is there another guy out there?”
Courtney looked at Hayden helplessly “Shut up,” she said.
“Babe,” Hayden called Courtney, snuggling against her.
Courtney was clear that whenever Hayden got close to her there was sure to be trouble.
“Hayden, do you remember why you joined the military?” Courtney asked in a low voice.
She wanted Hayden to seriously try to recover his memory,
Hearing this, Hayden fell silent for a moment, but he didn’t let go of Courtney’s arm. “My parents… died young,” he replied.
It looked like that Hayden still remembered,
“A few years back, my dad started a business overseas by himself. Unfortunately, someone he trusted tricked him, and he got kidnapped for ransom. My mom sent them the money, but they killed him anyway,” Hayden started to recall, whose voice was slightly hoarse
“When we learned the kidnapper was someone familiar, we knew Dad wouldn’t come back. If he did, we surely wouldn’t let that person off.
“Eventually, my mom personally went there to bring back my dad’s body. He was tortured beyond recognition,” Hayden continued, whose voice was still
hoarse and somber

Chapter 122
“Grandpa blamed my mom, saying she led my dad astray with her business ideas. He said if she’d just followed the family’s plans, this tragedy wouldn’t have happened. He accused her of getting my dad killed,” he added.
When hearing those words, Courtney paused for a moment, and then she turned to look at Hayden. She wondered, ‘Is he crying? Her neck felt warm and damp.
“My mom, who was overwhelmed by guilt and my grandfather’s blame, ended up taking her own life,” said Hayden.
Hayden, only eight years old, was left behind.
“After that, I lived with my grandpa,” he continued.
Therefore, Hayden grew up as a symbol of tragedy. Besides, grandpa’s domineering nature made Hayden rebellious from a young age.
He wanted to escape the Reed family’s control, just like his dad did, so he chose to join the army.
“Courtney, since I was eight, I haven’t had parents,” Hayden said in a hoarse yet calm voice.
He wasn’t trying to gain sympathy. Instead, he was just stating a fact, which was that he was an orphan.
“Because you had nothing and nothing to lose, you agreed to go undercover in such a dangerous place like South Weidan for Tyson, right?” Courtney turned to Hayden, asking in a low voice
“Yes, remember a bit. It was indeed to go undercover in South Weidan, Hayden nodded.
“Because I had nothing to be afraid of, and I didn’t need to worry about anyone finding out my real identity and retaliating against my family,” Hayden continued as his numb fingers gently brushed through Courtney’s hair.
“But it’s different now, Courtney. I have you, I’m not alone anymore, I don’t want to risk my life. I want to live a good life with you,” he added.
Courtney listened while her body was stiff for a long time. Then she looked up at Hayden, asking, “What do you feel like eating tonight? We can rest for a bit, then I’ll head to the market and make you steak, how about that?”
Hayden wrapped himself around Courtney like an octopus, gently kissing her forehead. “I’ll eat whatever you make, I’m not picky,” he replied.
Hearing this, Courtney smiled.
Lucas still hadn’t been caught, and his connection with James was still intact. Therefore, there were still many dangers that they had to face, and unexpected events could happen tomorrow or the day after.
Courtney could understand the mindset Hayden had when he went undercover back then, because he had no family and no worries.
“Hayden, after finishing this mission, don’t go back and just stay in Henisburg. Live a good life with me okay?” Courtney whispered softly.
“Yeah, let’s have a baby,” Hayden said while his fingers awkwardly played with Courtney’s hair. “But first, I need to sort out all the problems, otherwise,
I’m scared,” he added.
For undercover agents like them, settling down and starting a family was their biggest fear.
Hayden never imagined he would someday long for a cozy home with a wife and kids. But now that he had this thought, thus he was also filled with fear.
