Chapter 12
Vera seemed stunned, covering her face as she looked at Courtney in shock.
Courtney’s breath came in short gasps. She swiftly swung her hand again and slapped Vera across the face.
Seeing this, the hospital staff rushed forward to try to stop
to stop Courtney
Lorraine, however, didn’t try to stop Courtney. Instead, she pinned Vera down. “Courtney, go on!”
Courtney, trembling all over, stared at Vera, then raised her hand and gestured. “You don’t have the right to speak about Mark.”
Vera glared at Courtney furiously. “How dare you slap me? Courtney, who do you think you are! You’ve lost both your parents, and you’re a mute now. You’ve been violated by countless people in South Weidan. Why are you acting so arrogant?”
Courtney gritted her teeth, tears welling up in her eyes.
Her
parents had left the world. She had been trapped in Weidan for the hospital and peace, yet Vera, the daughter of the hospital’s director, was using her pain to attack her. She felt like being stabbed in the chest.
“What did you say? Say it again, Vera. You’re really horrendous, taking advantage of Austin when he was vulnerable. You shameless bitch” Lorraine snapped, pushing past others, grabbing Vera’s hair, and starting to strike.
Having spent five years in Weidan. Lorraine was a good fighter, and Vera was no match for her.
“Help! Somebody help: They’re attacking me!” Vera cried out desperately, but no one dared intervene. Even the security guards were stopped by Mark’s family
Vera had brought this upon herself–she had been asking for a fight
The elevator doors o opened, and the hospital director, James, along with Austin, stepped out.
Austin, seeing the scene spiral out of control rushed forward to protect Vera. “Lorraine, Let go of her! If you hit her again, I’ll call the police!”
Lorraine was shoved aside by Austin, losing her balance and falling to the ground.
Courtney stepped forward, and in front of Austin, slapped Vera once more. Then, she bent down and quickly wrote something on a [Go ahead, call the police, and let them arrest me!]

of paper.
Austin frowned, as if he couldn’t believe Courtney would beat someone. “Courtney, are you really going to join in their madness?”
Courtney trembled all over, her eyes burning with unshed tears as she wrote quickly. They just want an explanation!]
“The higher–ups will give you an explanation. You can’t cause a scene here!” Austin grabbed Courtney’s wrist. “Come with me now; behave y
yourself
Vera, still clutching her face, glared at Courtney with malice. “Courtney, why do you look so afraid when I said you’ve been violated by countless people in Weidan”
“Veral” Austin shouted at her, his chest heaving with rage.
Vera looked at Austin with tears in her eyes. “Austin, today you have to choose between me and her. I’m telling you, if you choose her, you’ll lose me. If you choose me, there’s no place for her!
“Austin, you’re a jerk! Courtney’s been missing for just a few years, and you’ve already married this bitch!” Lorraine shouted, pointing at Austin’s

Robert, too, was deeply disappointed in Austin. “I never thought you’d do something like this. Do you have any idea what Courtney has been through these five years? She’s always believed you’d wait for her.”
Austin lowered his head in guilt.
“Stop with the moral high ground, Vera yelled, her voice frenzied. “Everyone thought you were dead. You want Austin to That’s not realistic!”

Everyone fell silent, no one daring to speak.
James continued. “I know everyone has suffered a lot over the years, but the fact that we made it back safely is a blessing in itself. As for Mark….
He bowed deeply to Mark’s family. “I will do everything in my power as the hospital director to help. We are all professionals here, so I don’t want any more trouble in this hospital
Courtney clenched the pen in her hand, her knuckles turning white. She wanted to write on her notebook, asking who had leaked out their whereabouts.
But she remembered that Hayden had told her not to trust anyone, which meant the person who had sold them out could have been anyone at the hospital.
“Let’s all calm down, James spoke softly, trying to soothe everyone. “Those who need to return to work, go ahead. Those who need rest, take it. If anyone has any requests, bring them up. We’ll handle it privately

Courtney’s grip tightened on the pen, the tip of it
She would make sure Mark didn’t die in vain. She would uncover the truth. She owed it to Mark’s parents to find out who had betrayed them, and she would make sure those responsible faced justice.
“Hmph, as long as the money and benefits are in place, no one will keep causing trouble. These people are simply not satisfied with what they’ve gotten–greedy and never enough. Vera muttered coldly.
Austin shot her an angry look. “Shut up”
Vern looked defiantly at Austin “Today, in front of my father and everyone here, you need to make things clear. Do you want me, or do you want her?”

“I don’t want to be shamed as a mistress just because of her return. If you don’t cut ties
