Chapter 111
In the demolition zone.
Half of the old house had already been torn down, but Courtney’s home near the main road hadn’t been demolished yet. It might take a little more time.
Carl and Lorraine joined Courtney as she returned to the place where she grew up.
Here were all the memories of Courtney and her parents.
“Hold on Carl, a detective, was
more alert.
He looked at the darkened door frame and the charred, dusty doorknob. “Someone has been here.”
The doorknob showed signs of being used. Judging by the thickness of the fresh dust, this happened recently
But Courtney didn’t return,
“The killer likes to return to the crime scene, Courtney sneered. “They should be afraid that there are some clues in t
this house?”
“I heard the Lewis family asked a developer to demolish these buildings ahead of schedule, but the developer refused,” Carl said, looking at Courtney “The Lewis family seems guilty.”
The Lewis family did seem guilty, but although the land here was acquired by the Reed family, the demolition and infrastructure were managed by the Cramer family. Zach’s brother, Andy, wouldn’t let Marilyn get her way.
Carl took pictures and warned Courtney to be careful when opening the door.
The door was opened, and indeed there were many footprints left in the living room,
“They came more than once, trying to ruin the scene,” Carl said as he walked into the living room, looking at the empty room and the damaged kitchen. “The fire started in the kitchen because of old wiring and a gas leak.”
Carl had gone through the case files.
“If this fire was an accident, there was no need for them to come back and destroy stuff Lorraine guessed. It was too obvious.
“They’re afraid…” Courtney whispered, tears silently rolling down her face.
Originally, this was her coziest home, with her mom and dad.
“They destroyed the bedroom. The burnt wardrobe was smashed to pieces, Carl said softly, trying to stop Courtney from going inside. “Courtney….don’t
look
But Courtney insistently walked inside.
Looking at the place where her parents had passed away, she finally broke down and cried.
From the traces at the scene, it was clear that when the fire occurred, her parents had immediately tried to wet the blankets to block the gap under the door and had attempted to open the security window to escape.
But somehow, the old security window hadn’t been opened.
No one managed to escape.

Chapter 111
And apart from signs of forced damage on the security window, there were no other signs of struggle.
“There were dried bloodstains here, but the coroner believes that carbon monoxide or other gas poisoning caused your parents to collapse, resulting in Injuries Cart pointed at the floor.
“Austin already cremated and buried your parents immediately, now without the bodies, it’s tough to find evidence,” Carl added regretfully.
From the scene. Austin was clear that this wasn’t an accident; it was likely murder.
But so many years had passed, and any evidence had mostly been erased.
“It doesn’t matter,” Courtney gripped the old security window tightly. “If the law can’t bring justice, there must be another way.”
“Courtney” Carl frowned. “Don’t go to extremes. Your parents wouldn’t want that for you
“My life is too precious to waste easily,” Courtney murmured, gazing out the window.
Lorraine grabbed Carl and shook her head at him.
In the Hensburg General Hospital
Courtney returned to the hospital to present her credentials. She voluntarily took a psychological test and passed, allowing her to get back to her duties
at the hospital.
But James clearly had something against Courtney, forcing her to continue with the training program.
“Did you hear? Ms. Edwards is back and she’s working as Ms. Swanson’s assistant. Ms. Swanson used to be Ms. Edwards’s junior and even interned with her. How can they set it up like that? It’s like making the teacher assist the student. It’s just so unfair.”
“This what Mr. Lewis will do. Right after Ms. Edwards went on her peacekeeping mission, Mr. Lewis set up his daughter to marry Dr. Gilbert, Dr. Gilbert’s
wife used to be Ms. Edwards.”
As soon as Courtney returned, it was like she stirred up the whole hospital, causing a ripple effect. Everyone loved gathering together to gossip.
“Courtney, have you checked on the patient in room 236? What’s going on? What took you so long?” Rosalind asked angrily, fully showing her condescending
Rosalind was Courtney’s younger colleague and also Vera’s cousin. She was being arrogant in the hospital because of her relationship with James.
James obviously assigned Courtney to work under Rosalind on purpose.
He was clearly trying to push Courtney out.
“if you’ve experienced trauma and have psychological issues, maybe you shouldn’t return as a doctor. Aren’t you worried about delaying your patients” treatments?” Rosalind proclaimed in front of the nurses and patients‘ families.
“Can someone with problems still be a doctor? What if she messes up our treatment?” a family member of a patient murmured.
Courtney placed the medical records on the nurse’s station and looked coldly at Rosalind. “I passed the hospital’s psychological evaluations before returning to work. Are you questioning the hospital’s evaluation center?
“In your four years here, you’ve prescribed the wrong medication thirteen times, mixed up patients, lost case files, and recommended unlicensed health products to patients families, is the issue with other doctors‘ skills, or is it yours, Ms. Swanson?”
