Chapter 100
When Austin met Courtney’s gaze, he felt scared and didn’t have the guts to hit her.
If Austin dared to hit her, Courtney would
y and cut him with the kitchen knife,
Austin withdrew his hand, glared at her, and said, “Courtney, you’ve gone crazy! How did you become like this?”
Courtney laughed in anger. “How did I become like this? Isn’t it because of you?”
Courtney spoke with difficulty, but at least she managed to speak.
Austin looked away and said, “It’s my fault to send you to the mental hospital. Look at yourself. You always grab a vase or a kitchen knife. I did it for your good, didn’t 17”
Courtney sat on the couch and sneered, “Oh?”
Austin stopped arguing with Courtney and inspected each room. The things in Phoebe’s room were gone. The things in Alina’s room were intact, but the bedding had been tossed out
Austin said, “Courtney, I let’s talk.” He asked Alina to take Phoebe into the room.
Phoebe was frightened. She was too scared to cry out. She just stared at Courtney in fear.
Courtney leaned back on the couch and looked at Austin.
Austin squatted beside Courtney and said gently, “I’m glad you’re back. Let’s live a peaceful life. You should sign the letter of understanding for Vera as soon as possible. You have seen it. The mental hospital is full of James‘ people.
“I want to protect you, but I can’t. We can’t afford the results of offending them. You sign it and let vera take Phoebe away when she gets out. We will
have our kids.”
Courtney looked down at Austin and casually chopped at the couch with the kitchen knife.
Courtney had ever had fantasies about Austin. Now she only had disgust, revulsion, and physical nausea towards him.
Courtney looked up at the ceiling and said, “Austin, do you know what kind of place South Weidan is?
Over the years, if it hadn’t been for Hayden, she would’ve been dead a long time ago
After she went home, she thought that it would be safer than South Weidan, and she’d finally get some peaceful sleep.
However, her beloved husband, Austin, was the one who sent her to the mental hospital.
Austin said with red eyes, “Courtney, I know you suffered a lot in South Weidan, but my life in Henisburg over these years hasn’t been easy either. I almost died the year you had the accident.”
Courtney was sure that Austin’s sadness wasn’t fake during the first year after her accident. She believed he had felt sad for
Unfortunately, his love was too shallow and didn’t last long
Courtney looked up at the ceiling as tears uncontrollably streamed down her face. She sneered, “I can never rely on anyone to feel my pain. One won’t feel the pain until they feel it.”

Courtney lifted her foot, looked at her two wrapped toes, and said, “I broke two toes to go to the emergency room. If I hadn’t saved myself, I’d be like at walking dead and trapped there for life.”
Courtney leaned forward, held the kitchen knife against Austin’s neck, and said, “Austin, I never imagined my worst nightmare would come from you.”
In South Weidan for five years, the moment Mark died in front of her was terrifying. What terrified her the most was waking up in the mental hospital.
Austin pulled a long face, glanced at Courtney cautiously, and said, “Courtney, put down the kitchen knife. Holding it like that is too dangerous!”
Courtney carefully examined Austin as if she were trying to see through him.
Her parents once asked her to be wary of Austin. She didn’t understand the dangers inside people. She was sure Austin wasn’t someone who would
betray her trust.
Now it seemed she was a failure.
Austin said. “You should take a rest.” Courtney was lost in thought. Austin cautiously pushed the kitchen knife away and got up to move to a safe
distance.
Courtney calmed down, Austin breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Courtney, get some rest. I’ll sleep i sleep together. I’m exhausted. Tomorrow we’ll discuss the letter of understanding”
Austin hadn’t slept for 48 hours and it was exhausted.
Courtney stayed silent and was lost in thought.
I’ll sleep in the guest room tonight. Mom and Phoebe will
Early the next morning, Austin and Alina woke up to a strong pungent smell of natural gas.
Alina scolded as soon as she opened the door, “What’s that crazy woman doing again? What’s that smell? It’s pungent!”
Austin coughed, looked around, and said, “Mom, did you start cooking breakfast? It’s the smell of the natural gas!”
Austin was groggy. He planned to get up late today, but a nightmare woke him up. He was drenched in sweat.
The natural gas smell was overpowering
Alina shouted in fright, “The natural gas!” She rushed to the kitchen. The stove was turned on without a flame and leaking gas. All the windows and doors were shut.
Realizing something was wrong, Austin and Alina looked over to the couch in alarm and said, “Courtney, what are you doing?!”
Courtney sat on
on the couch and held a lighter, with a creepy smile on her face.
