Within a single night, Samuel was fired from the fire department and lost everything. The career that he was once proud of was taken away.
Dana was also fired from her company. The public scorned her and her daughter.
They brought it upon themselves. They deserved it.
However, this was not enough! I was going to make them all pay!
Three days later, Samuel and I proceeded with the divorce. It was not as messy as I expected. He quietly signed the papers and agreed to get a divorce without any compensation. All he took with him was exhaustion and regret.
Samuel said to me croakily, “Rachel, I’m so sorry…”
I stopped in my tracks. “Samuel, saying sorry will never make up for it. Nina will no longer be coming back.”
He shut his eyes in pain and shook his head helplessly.
Dana brought her daughter along, waiting for him at the entrance. “Samuel, Tilly said she misses you.

“Dana, we’re not a right fit,” Samuel said calmly.
Dana looked at him in disbelief. Her face paled. “‘What do you mean? Samuel, are you still mad at me? Tilly is just a child. She doesn’t know anything. She said she wants you to be her father!”
“No. Dana. It’s not your fault.” Samuel said, “It’s my fault for believing you. You convinced your daughter to kill my daughter!”
Tilly sobbed. “I don’t want you to be Uncle Samuel! I want you to be Daddy! Why does Nina get to have a heroic Daddy while I don’t have one!”
Samuel looked at Dana and Tilly disappointedly. All the love he had for them turned into loathing and hatred.
“N–No…” Dana shook her head fervently. Tears keep falling. “Let me explain. It’s not what you think…
“Let’s meet tonight under the Peace Bridge. We’ll talk it out then,” Samuel said and left without looking back.
When I walked past Dana. She pulled me back. She glared at me. “Rachel Chapman! You already divorced Samuel! Why are you still hurting me!”
I shoved her to the ground and looked down on her condescendingly. “You already had his

heart. Why did you want to go after my daughter? Why did you kill her? I never wanted trouble. If you two wanted to be together, go on ahead! Why must my daughter die?”
Dana looked horrified. She took a few steps back. “W–What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Dana, you disgust me!”
That evening, under the Peace Bridge, I hid behind a column and watched the scene happen in front of me.
Samuel and Dana were facing each other, arguing.
“Samuel, are you really going to abandon me because of Rachel?” Dana sobbed in despair. “Stop talking. We’re done.” Samuel sounded tired, but firm.
“No! We’re not done yet!” Dana shrieked hysterically. “I gave up my career abroad just to be with you! How could you be so cruel!” She flung herself into Samuel’s arms, hugging him tightly.
She bawled. “You were never like this in the past! You said you would take care of me for the rest of my life! You said you will love Tilly like how you loved Nina!”
I looked at them, sneered, and quickly got into Dana’s car.
