Chapter 3
I couldn’t hold it in anymore. “What’s really going on between you two?” I asked, my voice tight, knowing I might regret the question.
Alpha Jasper’s reply was calm, almost dismissive. “Isn’t it a characteristic of every beautiful girl? Don’t read too much into things just because Bianca happens to be pretty.”
It only made me feel more embarrassed and awkward in comparison.
His composure cracked whenever Omega
Bianca was involved. The mere whiff of her
being in danger turned him restless, his wolf on edge, trembling with anxiety.

But I’m the one who’s truly his mate, aren’t I?
The day Alpha Jasper came back from the hospital.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were discharged?” he asked. “I could’ve seen you off.”
I almost laughed. He’d been in the room next door at the hospital. He hadn’t even noticed when I left.
“It’s no trouble,” I replied flatly.
His brows furrowed, his voice gaining an edge. “Are you still upset because I saved Bianca?”

I looked up at him, feeling the dull ache of resignation settle deeper into my chest.
“She’s my sister–in–law, Audrey,” he continued. “How could I feel anything else for her? Do you really think so little of me?”
I shook my head, forcing calm into my voice.
“What difference does it make what I think? The moment Bianca says something, you’ll drop everything and run to her. And I’ll be left right here, just like always.”
He blinked, clearly unprepared for my response.
“So can we stop pretending this conversation changes anything? I don’t want to argue.”

For once, it was Alpha Jasper who seemed taken aback.
In the past, I had always been emotional whenever Omega Bianca came up–tears, yelling, desperate pleas for him to see things my
way.
But now, it seemed like I had suddenly come to terms with everything, and he’s a bit unused to it instead.
Perhaps guilt drove him to the kitchen, where he spent the next hour preparing a lavish meal.
The scent of roasted meat and spices filled the air, and despite myself, my wolf stirred with

interest.
He set a bowl of steaming soup in front of me, his voice uncharacteristically soft.
“Let’s postpone the engagement ceremony for now,” he said. “Bianca’s been discharged, but she’s still too weak to attend. We’ll wait until she’s feeling better.”
The spoon in my hand hovered midair.
Just a moment ago,I was puzzled as to why Alpha Jasper suddenly changed his attitude and began caring for me.
of course, it was all for Omega Bianca.
This engagement ceremony, which was

supposed to be about us, was now dependent on whether Omega Bianca could attend. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think she was the one who was engaged to him.
But it didn’t matter. This suited me just fine.
“Alright,” I said simply, taking a sip of the soup. It tasted bitter on my tongue, no matter how well it was seasoned.
Alpha Jasper leaned closer, his lips brushing my forehead. “I knew you’d understand,” he murmured. “You wouldn’t hold this against Bianca. You’re The Ambersy Pack’s Luna, Audrey. You’re above petty grievances.”
I smiled faintly but didn’t reply.

When a woman stops asking, stops fighting -it doesn’t mean she’s become more
understanding.
It means she’s given up.
That night, a torrential rain began pouring outside, with thunder and lightning flashing across the sky.
I lay beside Alpha Jasper in bed, and suddenly, he reached over and pulled me into his arms.
His warm, broad embrace caught me off guard,
In the past, this would have sent my heart racing, my wolf humming with contentment.

But now, there was no longer that fluttering in my chest, that racing heartbeat from before.
He rested his chin on my shoulder and called my name softly.
“Audrey…”
