Chapter 10
“How did you find this place?” I demanded, my tone cold and clipped as I blocked the doorway.
Alpha Jasper’s eyes, bloodshot and hurt, met
mine.
“I want to see you,” he said simply, as though that explained everything.
I frowned, my irritation building. “We’ve broken up. I don’t owe you any explanations. Please move.”
But instead of stepping aside, he exhaled deeply and, without warning, cupped my chin and pressed his lips to mine.

The kiss was hard and unyielding, his
desperation pouring into it like a dam breaking.
For a moment, I froze in shock. Then instinct took over. I bit down, hard, until the metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.
He recoiled, wiping his lips as his expression darkened. “I never agreed to the breakup,” he growled, his voice low and threatening. “Audrey, you’re mine.”
Fury surged through me. I shoved him with all the strength I could muster.
To my shock, he staggered and collapsed at my feet.
For a moment, I stood there, stunned. Then

I noticed the flush creeping up his neck and touched his forehead. He was burning with fever.
Damn it.
I didn’t want to get involved, not again. But he was passed out right outside my door, and leaving him there felt heartless–even for him.
Grumbling under my breath, I dragged his limp body inside, all but dumping him onto the couch. I fetched some fever–reducing syrup and a damp cloth, placing it on his forehead while waiting for the medicine to work.
After what felt like an eternity, Alpha Jasper stirred. His eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first, before locking onto mine.

“…Audrey,” he croaked, his voice hoarse. “I’m sorry. I was too impulsive earlier. I just missed you… too much.”
I crossed my arms and stepped back, giving him space but not sympathy.
It had only been two months since I left him, but he didn’t looked like a shell of the Alpha he once was. His face was gaunt, shadows clung beneath his eyes, and his usual air of authority had crumbled into something pitiful.
“Audrey,” he began again, his voice trembling, “I’ve been such a fool. After you left, I realized… I realized how much you mean to me. All along, I’ve only ever loved you.”

I almost wanted to scoff.
Alpha Jasper went on, spilling everything.
Omega Bianca’s pregnancy, it turned out, was a lie. The child wasn’t Vernon’s–or Jasper’s, for that matter. Just after Vernon’s death, she had been with another man.
“She’s a demon,” he said, his voice laced with bitterness. “She never loved Vernon. She never loved me. All she cared about was becoming Luna of The Ambersy Pack and living off our wealth.”
If I hadn’t seen her with another man at the hospital, we’d” all still be in the dark!”

no pity in his voice anymore–only disgust and
hatred.
I watched silently as his hands clenched into
fists.
“After her lies were exposed, she stopped pretending entirely,” he continued. “She stole confidential business information and gave it to her lover. It destroyed us.”
The Ambersy Pack, already battered by scandal, had collapsed entirely under the weight of her betrayal.

As Jasper spoke, his voice cracked, and for the first time, I saw him truly broken. He looked at me, tears brimming in his eyes. like I had when I lost our pup.

“I was so stupid,” he whispered. “I let her deceive me. I valued something worthless while ignoring what was truly precious.”
He took a shaky breath, his hands trembling. “Audrey, please. Come back with me. Let me
make it up to you. For the rest of my life, I will love only you.”
He looked at me then, his eyes pleading, vulnerable, desperate–like a wolf caught in a storm with nowhere to go.
“I went back to the house,” he admitted quietly. “Our home. It’s empty now. No lights, no
warmth, no you. I… I don’t know how to live without you.”
