Chapter 6
Three years ago, Ethan got influenza virus and had a fever of
104 degrees Fahrenheit. I rushed him to the hospital and looked after him attentively.
But I also fell ill.
At my most desperate moments, I even had to stay beside Ethan while having an IV drip.
It was precisely during that time when Ethan was the naughtiest.
Only Corey and I could get him to take medicine and have an injection.
As a result, I lost a lot of weight in a week.
But it wasn’t long before I realized that Corey went to be with Sienna to attend a meeting with foreign fans that week.
They traveled to many countries.
When I found out about it, Corey only replied to me with the following words, “She’s an old friend. How can I refuse her?
“Why can’t you take care of a kid by yourself?”
He stared at my pale and weary face but expressed no concern at
all.
Finally, Ethan, who had just recovered from that serious illness, was brought to my side by Corey.
He opened his hands and called out softly, “Mommy, hug me.
Corey didn’t even say a word of apology.
Just like that, he put an end to this farce.
Corey knew the weakness of a mother very well.
But now, things have changed.
I tapped the paper and emphasized, “You’ll know as soon as you sign it if I mean it.”
Corey’s eyes grew colder, and his body exuded a fierce aura.
It seemed there was still a tinge of pain.
I thought I must have seen it wrong.
In anger, Corey agreed and turned around to get the pen from his desk.
Before he could sign his name, his phone rang.
It was the hospital.
Ethan had a food allergy and was taken to the hospital.
Corey and I rushed to the hospital.
somewhat heartbreaking.
Corey softened his tone towards me and said, “Lena, look at Ethan. If you keep up this nonsense, Ethan won’t be able to take it anymore.”
I tightened my grip on the doorknob, and my eyelashes trembled. But I ignored Corey.
I asked Mary what happened later.
As soon as I left, Ethan seemed to be liberated, eating all the things I had never allowed him to eat before.
He said I had bound him too much.
Little did he know that he had inherited Corey’s weak stomach, with an exceptional number of allergens.
To nourish his stomach, I carefully planned the weekly menu.
Corey had several nutritionists.
But he felt if I cooked personally for Ethan, we could bond with each other more. Therefore, he didn’t get a nutritionist for
Ethan.
He didn’t expect Ethan to have an allergy so soon.
Actually, I had talked about these things with Corey.
Obviously, Mr. Skye, who cared about fame, fortune, and his company and would always be meticulous in his work, didn’t
I was beside him, lowering my gaze in silence.
Ethan slowly regained consciousness, murmuring, “Dad… dad…”
I smiled silently and ironically.
Ethan opened his eyes and saw me. His expression immediately shifted from daze to disgust. With a heavy huff, he turned away.
He woke up. So, he would be fine.
He still made a fuss and refused to take medicine.
He even shouted, “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to be my mother, Lena? Didn’t you say you would get a divorce? Lair!
“I think you just got cold feet.
“I dare you to fulfill your promise and leave immediately. Then, I will take medicine.”
His eyes were filled with disgust and hatred.
I didn’t seem to be the mother who took good care of him for eight
years.
Instead, I was like an enemy to him.
