Chapter 6
After returning to the bedroom, Angelina fell into a dazed state and eventually drifted off to sleep.
At some point, she became aware that Fabian had returned. He stood by her side for a long time, staring at her.
After a while, Fabian’s phone began ringing intermittently. When a particularly urgent call came in, he hesitated briefly before leaving the room.
The next morning, Fabian didn’t even make it back in time.
Mrs. Carnegie pushed a prepared breakfast in front of Angelina with a warm and caring smile.
“Fabian said there was something urgent at work, so he left in a hurry early this morning. If you have nothing to do, stay here at the estate with me. It’ll be less boring for you.”
Angelina froze momentarily as she took in Mrs. Carnegie’s composed demeanor.
Had she not overheard their conversation last night and learned that Mrs. Carnegie had long known about Fabian’s infidelity, Angelina might have believed that Mrs. Carnegie’s concern was genuine.
Now, in her eyes, they were both liars.
Everyone else knew the truth while she alone was kept in the dark, played like a fool.
Angelina let out a self–mocking laugh internally but maintained an air of calm indifference on
her face.
With less than a week left before her departure, she had no intention of complicating things.
“The wedding planners reached out yesterday. There are still some details to finalize. Fabian and I have spent a lot of time preparing for the wedding; we want everything to be perfect. I’ll come back to visit another day.”
Mrs. Carnegie responded with a perfectly measured smile and did not try to stop Angelina
from leaving.
Her earlier invitation had only been an effort to prevent Angelina from suspecting anything.
After breakfast, Angelina left the Carnegie estate and headed to the wedding planning office.
She hadn’t lied–she really did have business there today.
The week before, when she requested Natalie be substituted as the bride, she had promised to provide the planners with the updated materials,
Fabian had been by her side constantly over the past week, but she hadn’t come away empty-
handed.
Fabian didn’t guard himself against her at all–his phone and computer passwords were her birthday..
One evening, while Fabian was in the shower, Angelina went through his phone and computer.
That was when she discovered the truth.
not only married Natalie but had also taken wedding photos with her and gone
Fabian had a honeymoon.
on
The half–month period when Fabian had claimed to be on a business trip? He had been with Natalie on their honeymoon.
Angelina had transferred the wedding photos and intimate pictures of the two of them to her phone and provided them to the wedding planners, along with other details for the changes.
After finishing all this, Angelina felt a hollow emptiness inside her–not as painful as she had imagined, just numb.
Leaving the wedding planning office, she remembered her recent medical test results should be ready and drove to the hospital.
When she arrived at the parking lot, she noticed Fabian’s car was also parked outside the hospital.
Before she could even reach the counter to collect her report, she saw Fabian and Natalie walking out of the obstetrics and gynecology department together.
Both were smiling, and Fabian was carefully supporting Natalie’s lower back, looking every bit like a loving husband eager to start a family.
Though she thought she had numbed herself to the pain, the sight still managed to stab her
heart.
Natalie’s eyes lit up as she spotted Angelina standing before them. She deliberately leaned closer to Fabian before speaking.
“Miss Angelina, what a surprise to see you here at the hospital. Are you also here because you’re pregnant?”
Hearing her name, Fabian instinctively pulled his hand away from Natalie and looked up.
His expression immediately tensed, and his hands hung awkwardly at his sides, sweat breaking out on his forehead in an instant.
“Angelina, why are you here at the hospital?” he asked nervously.
“I’m here to pick up my test results,” Angelina replied coldly, meeting Natalie’s provocative
gaze.
Fabian quickly stepped toward her, his voice flustered as he explained.
“Angelina, I ran into Natalie on my way to the office. She had an accident and got hurt. Since she’s a student our family sponsored, I decided to help her out. I only found out she was pregnant when we arrived at the hospital. I was just lending a hand.”
Angelina took a deep breath to steady herself, suppressing the stabbing pain in her chest.
“Imagine that. Just a few months ago, Miss Natalie was fretting about a fake marriage to put her mother’s mind at ease, and now she’s pregnant. Congratulations.”
Natalie gave Fabian a lingering look, her gaze brimming with affection, which only made him
sweat even more.
“Thank you, Miss Angelina. I’m over two months along now–with twins. The baby’s father was a bit too rough with me last night, but it’s nothing serious. He’s busy and couldn’t come. today, so I was lucky to run into President Fabian…”
“Since you’re fine, I won’t stay here any longer,” Fabian interrupted abruptly, cutting off Natalie’s chatter. He stepped forward to take Angelina’s hand.
Angelina shifted her gaze away from Natalie and calmly shook her head.
Seemingly desperate to avoid leaving her alone with Natalie, Fabian quickly ushered her away.
After picking up her test results, they left the hospital.
Angelina followed Fabian like a puppet on strings, letting him lead her away.
She had once told him: if he ever betrayed her, she would make sure he could never find her again.
She would keep that promise–and she had a special surprise prepared for Fabian to receive on their wedding day.
