Chapter 24
After returning to Paris from Boston, Angelina no longer had to deal with the disturbances from the people back home who claimed to be her friends. Her life gradually returned to
normal.
Meanwhile, Fabian, back in the country, had been in a numb state ever since Angelina left, like a soulless zombie
Mrs. Carnegie was both angry and heartbroken The usually elegant woman was now cursing endlessly, like a street gossip.
When Mr. Carnegie walked into the hospital room, he saw Fabian in this state and Mrs. Carnegie’s distress. His anger flared up immediately.
Mr. Carnegie grabbed Fabian from the bed and slapped him twice with force.
Blood oozed from the corner of Fabian’s mouth, and the sound of Mr. Carnegie’s furious scolding filled his ears.
“Fabian, look at yourself! Do you think behaving like this will make Angelina come back to you?”
“She won’t even spare you a second glance now. If you keep wallowing in this misery, all you’re doing is giving everyone something to laugh about.
“Even if you don’t care about anyone else, at least think of your mother! She’s been worrying about you so much that look at what it’s done to her!”

Finally, there was a flicker of emotion in Fabian’s blank gaze.
His eyes fell on Mrs. Carnegie’s face. In just two months, not only had he tortured himself to the point of looking unrecognizable, but Mrs. Carnegie had also gained more wrinkles. Her once–neat hair was now a messy bun with streaks of white.
It wasn’t just Mrs. Carnegie–Mr. Carnegie had changed as well.
Ever since Angelina left, Fabian had been frantically searching for her, disregarding everything, and had turned himself into a shadow of a man. Many people in Boston were mocking the Carnegie family.
Even more people wanted to take advantage of the situation to bring down the Carnegie Group and profit from it.
Mr. Carnegie had to clean up the mess Fabian made while also protecting the Carnegie Group from the other wealthy families in Boston. He was utterly exhausted, both physically and
mentally.
Fabian’s eyes suddenly turned bloodshot, and tears once again filled his c
eyes.

“Mom, Dad, I’m sorry… I’ll…”
Tears soaked the bed sheets, but the promise Fabian wanted to make was never fully spoken.
In the time that followed, Fabian cooperated with treatment, and once his health had improved enough, he returned to the company.
Fabian’s business acumen had always been astonishing.
Otherwise, people in Boston wouldn’t have chosen to target the Carnegie family while Fabian was barely hanging on to life.
Once he resumed control of the company, Fabian fiercely retaliated against everyone who had taken action against the Carnegie Group during his absence.
As one company after another declared bankruptcy, the remaining individuals trembled as they approached Fabian, groveling and apologizing. Various compensations poured into the Carnegie Group’s coffers, bringing the business battle to an end.
Mr. and Mrs. Carnegie were finally able to smile again, thinking that Fabian had finally gotten over Angelina’s departure.
But when they arranged a blind date for Fabian and he erupted in a fit of rage, they realized that he had merely buried his sorrow deep inside.
This time, no one could convince Fabian.

Aside from work, he cut off almost all social interactions. After work, he would return to
home that no longer had Angelina in it. It was only when he lay in the place where Angelina had once slept that he could finally fall asleep.
