Chapter 2
He shot me a glare. I felt a bitter taste rise in my throat, my voice catching.
I didn’t take these. They were sent to me.”
He scoffed, as if the whole thing was a joke. “Who would be that bored?”
Then, his tone darkened, suspicion dripping from his words, “You’re not thinking of using these to split our assets, are you?”
I couldn’t even laugh as the pain in my chest was too raw
When we married, Nick had been eager, but his parents had insisted on a prenup.
I hadn’t cared about it at the time; I had no wealth to speak of, and marrying him was all I wanted.
Now, I wondered if they had seen this coming all along.
I forced a smile, my lips trembling slightly, “Nick, you really are something else.”
Even after what he had done, he had the nerve to throw mud at my name.
He opened his mouth, maybe to apologize, but the words stuck to the back of his throat, never seeing the light of day.
In all our years together, not once had I asked him for anything.
And now, I was branded as greedy.
As I looked at him, the mask he had worn for so long slipped away, revealing the cold truth beneath. A wave of exhaustion washed over me. “Let’s head to get the divorce done this afternoon.”
He didn’t even flinch, brushing me off like I was nothing more than a distraction. “Tomorrow,” he said, his voice dripping with indifference. “I’ve got a gala tonight. And I need you to come with me.”
