Chapter 4
The unfamiliar environment made me
extremely frightened.
There was mist all around, and I ran on the
road in panic.
Suddenly, someone pulled me aside.
Without seeing who it was, I kept fighting against him.
“Lena, what’s wrong with you? Can’t you see the car on the road?”
The angry curse made me regain my
senses.
The driver of the car that was about to hit me just now kept cursing not far away from
- me.
Johnny pulled me into his car.
But at this moment, I was physically and mentally exhausted, and I didn’t want to have too much involvement with him. So, I
shook off his hand.
Perhaps because Johnny had been in power for a long time, he couldn’t tolerate any disobedience from others, so he instantly became angry.
He forcefully pressed me onto the seat and tied my hands to the handle on the roof of
the car with a tie.
Then, he locked the car door.
I had no choice but to keep kicking the car door.
I tried to annoy him and let him leave me alone.
But he remained unmoved.
Just as we were deadlocked, Johnny’s phone rang.
I saw Johnny answer the phone. He heard. something, and then, he showed a joyful expression on his face.
“OK. OK. Alright. I’ll be right there.”
With that, he found a place to park and let
me get out. Then, he left straight away.
That was it. He left me again.
I stood embarrassed by the roadside, watching the passing traffic.
I didn’t know where I was now, and I didn’t know where I could go.
At this moment, my phone rang. It was my new boss.
“Lena, why didn’t you come to work this afternoon? Didn’t you say you only took half a day off? We need some hands here.”
Hearing this, I explained my situation to her.
I thought she would scold me and dock my pay.
But she didn’t.
After listening to my explanation, she
remained silent for a while and then asked me to stay where I was.
An hour later, my new boss appeared in my sight on her scooter.
She saved me.
The cafeteria’s business was really good today, so it closed late.
I carried the leftovers that my new boss left for me and took the last bus back to my small rental house.
But there, I saw two people that shouldn’t be there.
Aleck’s eyes were slightly red, and Johnny had a frown on his face.
I thought it was my illusion.
So, I walked straight to my house without looking aside.
I took out the key and unlocked the door.
Just as I was about to enter my house, Johnny grabbed my arm.
“Lena, Arabella woke up.”
After I heard this sentence, my mind went blank for a moment.
I unconsciously loosened my grip, and the food in my hand fell directly to the ground.
But I didn’t care about it, nor did I care about Aleck and Johnny. I immediately ran outside.
If it weren’t for Johnny stopping me in time, I would have run to the hospital myself.
This was the first time I voluntarily got into Johnny’s car.
After I opened the ward door, I saw Arabella sitting at the bedside and waving
at me.
Tears fell uncontrollably.
This time, no one stopped me from approaching Arabella.
It had been five years. Now, I finally returned to Arabella’s embrace again.
Just as I was immersed in Arabella’s warm embrace, Helga’s words made me tremble uncontrollably.
“About Arabella’s accident, we
misunderstood you.
“But if you didn’t provoke Connie, Arabella wouldn’t have to bear this disaster for you.”
Helga’s voice became louder and louder. She kept accusing and blaming me.
“Mom, stop it…”
Arabella’s weak voice interrupted Helga for a few seconds.
But then, Helga continued, “Did I say anything wrong? She has always been like this…”
“Stop it!”
I didn’t want to hear any more of her scolding.
“Look at her! That’s how she is to me. I
haven’t said much, and she’s already gone
crazy.”
The commotion here had attracted the attention of people around.
Helga’s words made me feel ashamed. I shouted, “I said stop!”
Then, a warm stream flowed from between my legs and formed a puddle on the ground.
When I looked down, I found that I had uncontrollably wet myself.
Looking at the mess on the ground, I was stunned, followed by a desperate scream.
I somehow gathered all my strength, pushed everyone crazily, and ran out.
During the run, I lost my shoes and left a series of bloody footprints on the ground.
But it was as if I couldn’t feel the pain. I just kept running.
A thought suddenly flashed through my mind.
Maybe it was better to just end everything here. Instead of becoming a useless idiot, it was better to end all this pain now.
Then, I did as I thought.
I ran to the cross–river bridge, flipped over the railing, and then jumped into the river without any hesitation.
