Chapter 88
Melody paused for a moment,
Jeremy replied. “There are documents in the back. Don’t mess them up.”
she froze, and the thought that had post surfaced in her mind sank again. She was being foolish–what was she expecting?
Once they get in the car, both of them remained silent. She didn’t know what to say since he was always like this.
If she did not initiate a conversation, he could easily treat her as if she didn’t exist.
Lowering her gaze, she suddenly noticed something shiny near her feet. She bent down and picked it up. It was a delicate, thin necklace.
As her eyelashes trembled slightly, she asked softly, “Why is there a necklace in your car?”
He glanced at it briefly, thought for a moment, and said, “It’s probably something Krystal accidentally left behind.”
A necklace wasn’t like a bracelet or a watch–it was worn around the neck. How could it just fall off?
She pressed her lips together as she paled.
Then, she recalled the way Jeremy and Krystal smiled when they walked out of the study together. It meant that they mingled well
He didn’t know how to answer her question, so he stayed silent.
Melody gripped the neck
necklace tightly, after which she asked something that had burdened her. “Jeremy, do you know what it means to be in a relationship?=
A faint crease appeared between his brows. “I do.”
Then, do you know that a boyfriend should take responsibility for his girlfriend?”
In the dimly lit car, her voice was soft and hoarse.
Whenever she thought about their relationship, it all felt so unreal.
If they weren’t living under the same roof, she wouldn’t even believe that they were actually dating, but what kind of relationship was this?
Melody closed her eyes briefly, trying to suppress her emotions.
Then, she heard his deep, indifferent voice. “What more do you expect me to do? Marry you?”
Her grip on the neodace tightened, but she quickly loosened it, asking, “Would you do so?“!
“No.” Jeremy didn’t even besitate. He was too swamped in his career to even consider marriage.
She froze, and a sharp pain spread through her chest. She knew he didn’t love her, which was why she worked so hard to improve herself and excel in everything she
did.
Her friends called her foolish, but she did it willingly because of her feelings for him. She thought she had prepared herself for this. After loving him for a decade. she never intended to burden him with her feelings, yet hearing him say it so definitely still hurt her to the core
Even when the car pulled into the underground parking lot, the dull ache in her chest hadn’t faded.
He reached out. “Give me the necklace.”
Melody looked at him bianky.
Jeremy’s perfectly sculpted face revealed no emotion. He explained in a cold tone, “Krystal wouldn’t want you to be the one retuming it. Don’t make things
ncomfortable for everyone again
As she handed the necklace back, her hands trembled.
