Chapter 49
Harold was still holding a takeout container in his hand
He greeted Melody, saying, “M. Wardelt, you’ve worked hand over these past two days. I ordered some barbecue ribs for lunch today. Make sure you eat some later.
Since Harold was in charge of the ICU patients, he knew how exlsausting the past two days had been for Melody.
Melody’s gaze flickered past him to Jeremy, who was standing behind him with his head down, focused on his phone. He didn’t look up.
Melody said, “You guys go ahead. I’m not Iwangry.”
Harold paused. “How can you not be hungry? You’ve been on your feet all moming.”
“I’m really not hungry,” she insisted.
Jeremy finally lifted his eyes. His gaze landed on Melody as he said in an indifferent voice, “Leave if you don’t want to eat,
Melody’s fingers curled into her palm. She looked at Jeremy, and her eyelashes trembled alightly.
Harold frowned. “Jeremy, what are you saying? Shouldn’t you at least try to convince her?”
Jeremy’s expression remained unchanged. “No one is forcing her not to eat. If she doesn’t want to, then she shouldn’t waste time standing here.
“She’s wasting her own time and everyone else’si,”
After saying that, he glanced down at Melody with a cold gaze that was as sharp as a knife. It stabbed her night in the heart.
“Move,” he said.
Melody had to summon all her strength just to keep standing straight.
She lifted her eyes and met his gaze. She wanted to say something, but her throat felt so tight that she couldn’t get a single word out.
After she left, Jeremy walked inside.
Harold followed behind him, wanting to say something. However, the break mom was full of people, so he held back
It wasn’t until after lunch back in the office that he finally asked, “Did you quarrel with Ms. Wardolf?”
“Why do you ask that?” Jeremy questioned back.
Harold glanced at him. He was a few years older than Jeremy and had been lus senior in medical school.
Blackthen, Jeremy’s reputation as a genius had spread across the entire campus. Unfortunately, he was cold asien–he was practically a cobor
It didn’t matter if he was in school or working at the hospital, there would always be plenty of women who were interested in him. But most of them couldn’t handle his distant and rigid personality and would all give up within days.
Except Melody
Harold said, “The way you spoke just now was seriously aggravating. Anyone could see that Ms. Wardolf was upset.”
Jeremy’s voice was flat. “And what does that have to do with me?”
“Theard from Caleb that you gave her a hard time at the nurse’s station yesterday, Jeremy, have you considered that what you guys did yesterday was a bit much?” Harold tried to reason with him. “Besides, she’s been working herself to the bone for the pants. She should be recognized for that, not criticized.”
Jeremy cut him off with a cold expression, “The hospital is a place to care for patients, not to cater to her emotions. If she can’t handle it, she shouldn’t be here.”
Melody had been on her way to the doctors office to find Harold. She had just arrived when she overheard Jeremy’s words.
She stopped in her trade. Something inside her chest suddenly felt hollow as if all the air had been sucked out
In her entire year at the hospital, she had never complained. She worked hard and took every taskseriously.
But to Jeremy, it still wasn’t enough.
Harold noticed her and was momentarily stunned before saying, “Ms. Wardolf, wiry are you here? That’s not what we meant. Don’t take it the wrong way.” She nodded and simply said, “Dr. Franklin, Tcame to see you.
“You mentioned adding a new medication to the ICX) patient, but the onder hasn’t beeu placed yet.”
Her expression was serious and professional, as if she hadn’t heard anything they had just said.
Harold felt a bit awloward and quickly nodded. “I’ll take care of li right away ”
He then tuned to mind Jeremy, “Jeremy, you should explain yourself.”
Considering what he had just said, anyone would be upset.
Jeremy glanced at Melody and lowered his gaze again. The white coat he wore was like annor–it gave him an unapproachable and distant air.
His voice was detached as he said, “There’s nothing to explali. it’s just the truth.
“She was never sulted for this hospital to begin with. If she needs other to constantly accommodate her feelings, she might as well leave.
