Chapter 38
As the only son of the Chesson family, Jeremy had always been treated with courtesy by Anders.
Andrew said after a brief pause, “Jeremy, I’m sorry for the trouble. Also, regarding Dr. Tumer..”
“I’ll explain everything to him,” Jeremy promptly replied.
Upon hearing that, Andrew finally relaxed. He then tumed to Melody and softly said, “Mel has really been spalled by us.”
It wasn’t until jeremy brought her home that Melody finally felt a bit of relief.
She typed on her phone, “Thank you.”
Jeremy glanced at her and simply said, “Tmheading to the hospital in a bit.”
Melody’s eyes widened as she looked at him.
Jeremy elaborated, “The hospital prioritizes patient care. They won’t keep a medical staff member who could become a liability at any moment. If you suddenly go deat during an emergency and delay a patient’s treatment, can you take responsibility for that?
Melody froze for a second then quickly typed, “I’ve never delayed a single treatment before.”
Jeremy’s expression remained calm, but his words were strikingly blunt. “That’s because your hearing wasn’t a problem before. But what if you lose your hearing in the middle of surgery? Should they save the patient first, or you?
Melody was stunned. She had no answer.
But when she met Jerry’s gaze, she snapped out of it and typed, “I won’t assist in surgeries,”
Jeremy glanced down at her and asked, “Why are you so determined to work at the hospital?”
Melody’s fingers tightened around her phone, and her heart skipped a beat. It took her a moment before she slowly typed, “Because I need to save up money.” She needed money for the surgery. She wanted to live like a normal
Jeremy hadn’t expected that answer. Just then, a thicker of understanding crossed his composed face.
However, it didn’t really matter in the end.
He spoke in an indifferent tone, “I’m heading to the hospital. You can go back to your room.”
Without waiting for Melody to move, he turned and lett.
After that, Melody sat on the couch, dazed, and unable to snap out of it.
What else would she do if she really couldn’t work as a nurse anymore?
A bitter smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She felt like the child whom fortune had always overlooked.
At the hospital, Jeremy ran into Harold.
He paused and said, “When did you get back?”
“This morning,” Harold replied. “I was actually planning to ask you about something when you come in tomorrow.” He frowned and glanced toward the patient rooms. “Tessa accused Ms. Wardolf of leading her information and she got suspended because of it?
“Why didn’t you reach out to me earlier? I could’ve worked for her!
“Tiffany already filled me in jeremy, I swear, back then, neither Ms. Wardolf nor I had any idea Tessa was inside. I was in a hurry to get the medical records to you, and I had to run off to find the director, so I asked her to deliver the file for me!
“And yeah, I was the one who opened the door.”
Harold slapped his thigh, looking utterly frustrated. “It I’d known it would blow up like this, and she’d get caught in the middle, I would’ve just brought it
Jeremy studied him for a moment, his expression calm. “Are
Are you done?
“Huh?”
Jeremy lowered his gaze and spoke in an emotionless voice, “Do you think Tessa would believe you now?”
At this point, no testimony from Harold could undo what had happened. If anything, speaking up now would only make Tessa more suspicious, as if he and Melody were in og something together.
Harold’s expression darkened as he realized the truth. “Then what do we do? We can’t Just let Ms. Wardoll take the tall for something she didn’t do.”
Jeremy glanced at his phone and said, “It’s still unclear whether shell be able to retum to the hospital.”
