Chapter 36
From the way Celeste carried herself, Kelly could tell she wasn’t here with good intentions.
Herexpression remained calms as she ignored the sarcastic tone and asked, “What would you like to order?”
Celeste looked smug “Top student, we’re from the same school. Is there a discount for your fellow classmates?”
“Sorry. I’m just a part–timer. I don’t have the authority to give discounts.”
“oh, sce.“Celeste immediately turned to her friends. “Everyone, order something pricey. Think of it as supporting our school’s top students. Who knows, the pets a commission. Help bereit with her household expenses.”
They covered thris mouths and started laughing, their laughter sharp and grating.
Sienna noticed what was going on and walked over. “Kelly, is everything alright?”
Kelly shook her head slightly and said to Celeste and her friends, “Are you ordering or not? If not, please don’t hold up the line.”
“What’s the nash?” Celeste scoffed and tuned to her friends. “Huny up. Don’t make the top student wait.”
Each of them ordered a drink, then moved aside to wait. Their voices, loud and deliberate, drifted over
“So, that’s the woman who liked your boyfriend? pude made the right choice.”
“It doesn’t matter how smart she is. Look at her. I wouldn’t want to be seen in public with that face”
she must come from a poor family if she still has to work part–time while in school”
Celeste’s beautiful and comes from a good family. It’s obvious who’s the better choice. You totally outclass her.”
Celeste tried to hold back a smile. “Keep your voices down. She’ll hear you.”
Kelly rolled her eyes and sighed inwardly, thinking, “Yeah, right. Like you didn’t say that out loud on purpose just so that I could hear it.”
She ignored them and continued taking orders from the other customers
When Celeste’s and her friends‘ beverages were finally ready, Kelly began packing them up when Celeste suddenly spoke up. “Tondered it with 30% sugar. Why does it taste like 50%
Another friend chimed in, “I’m on my period. I asked for mine hot. Why did you give me a cold one?”
“And Fordered the double shot latte with extra whipped cream, but this is mango pomelo espresso refresher. I’m allergic to mango
In an instant, all fingers were pointing at Kelly,
“Top student, what’s going on? Can’t even get an order right? Makes me wonder if that top ten ranking of yours is even real.” Celeste raised a brow, her gaze full of challenge.
“I want a new one. I’m not taking this.” One of the women slammed her beverages on the counter.
Kelly pursed her lips. “I remember all of your orders very clearly, I even repeated them back to you. There was no mistake.”
Celeste sneered. “You remember clearly? So you’re saying we’re the ones who don’t even know what we ordered?”
“Exactly. I don’t care. You’re making them again,” one of Celeste’s friends said.
Then, Celeste’s eyes lit up with a scheming glint. “Or how about this? Since you say you remember so clearly, why don’t you recite all our orders right now? If they match exactly, we’ll let it go and consider it our bad. But if you get anything wrong, you have to apologize in front of everyone here.”
By now, a crowd had formed people whispering and pointing.
Celeste and her friends had placed their order a while ago. With more customers ordering afterward, it would have been easy to get mixed up. Not to mention their group was large and their orders complicated–some wanted extra sugar, some less, some hot, some iced. No regular person could remember it all.
Sienna got nervous and tugged Kelly’s sleeve, lowering her voice as she said, “Kelly, forget it. I’ll just redo the drinks,”
But Kelly suddenly spoke up she pointed at Celeste. “You. Double shot latte with extra whipped cream, 50% sugar, and lessice, with added chocolate cubes.
Then, she pointed to another woman. “You Bold cold brew with ceram top, 30% sugar, and regular ice.”
She pointed to another woman and continued, “You. Mango pomelo espresso refresher, 50% sugar with lessice.”
