Chapter 11
Jordan headed straight to Jessica’s college after leaving Stone Corporation. Jessica hesitated outside the car when she saw his bleeding arm, only daring to get in when she was sure that he’d calmed down.
“Tell me you think Seraphine is an idiot–why am I the only one she can’t remember? She actually pointed a knife at me!” He was frustrated at the thought of what had just happened and pounded the steering wheel a few times.
Jessica understood what had happened when she heard that. “Maybe Seraphine just doesn’t love you that much. Who would forget their beloved?”
She placed a hand on his thigh as she spoke, and her gaze turned sympathetic. “I would never forget the man I loved, nor would I ever harm them.”
Jordan was touched when he heard that. Jessica was beautiful, young, and so innocent. She was a thousand times better than Seraphine.
He leaned close to her, and she didn’t dodge him this time. She used her body to comfort him, and he drowned in her tenderness. After an intimate entanglement, he felt like he’d regained his youth.
He lavishly spent money on Jessica, buying her clothes, shoes, and bags when he heard that her wardrobe was rather empty. He even bought her a villa.
I heard people gossiping about this as soon as I stepped foot on campus. I faltered but soon regained my composure.
I was back at my alma mater as a guest speaker and Stone Corporation’s representative. I needed to familiarize myself with the equipment, so I headed to the lecture hall early. Halfway through the rehearsal, I headed to the restroom. On my way back, I heard a few young women chatting to each other.
“I heard Mr. Fray bought you a villa, Jessica. Is it true?”
“It must be! She has so many luxury goods that she’ll never make her way through them.”
Jessica glanced at her dormmates, who were sucking up to her. She placed her globally limited–edition bag on the table and chuckled. “News travels fast.”
As they chatted, one woman said, “I heard Mr. Fray has a fiancée, though.”
“A fiancée? She’s just a poor woman with amnesia–she’s insignificant. You have no idea how head–over–heels Jordan is for me right now. He’d probably take his life if I told him to,” Jessica said with a scoff.
I entered the lecture hall as soon as the words were out of her mouth. She shot to her feet in fright and looked at me fearfully. She stammered, “W–What are you doing here?”
I ignored her and headed to the lectern to continue organizing my notes.
“Do you know her, Jessica? She’s our guest speaker today and works for Stone Corporation. I heard she graduated from here, too. She sounds really cool,” someone explained when they saw how agitated Jessica was.
Jessica was ashen. She clutched her bag tightly, not hearing what the other person said at all.
The lecture went smoothly. The other students filed out of the lecture hall when I was done, but Jessica remained in her seat. She approached me tentatively when everyone else had left. Then, she said coldly, “I’m the one Jordan loves. Don’t even try to break us up.”
I faltered while putting away my mouse. Then, I straightened up and looked at her. I chuckled and said, “You don’t need to be afraid if you haven’t done anything wrong, Ms. Green.”
At that moment, my phone buzzed.
“I’m at the campus gates.”
It was a message from Damien. He was being particularly clingy lately–previously, he wouldn’t have approached me if I didn’t reach out to him first. Now, however, he almost wanted to be glued to my side.
I pushed all thoughts of Jessica out of my mind and grabbed my bag. I hurried out of the lecture hall and to the gates. When I saw Damien’s car, I ran to it with a smile and waved at him.” Damo!”
He took me to an upscale restaurant. When we were done with our meal, he took me to an amusement park. It was lively there, and I was happy.
Damien’s expression suddenly turned serious, though. He turned to look at me, his gaze dull and listless. After a long hesitation, he spoke in a voice so low that he was almost inaudible, “Did you ever stop to think that I’m not your boyfriend, Seraphine?”
