Chapter 8
Before finalizing the divorce, Justin had one request. He would grant Norah a substantial sum of money, but in return, she had to attend his and Selena’s wedding.
Not only that, but Norah also had to accompany Selena throughout the entire process. She would help Selena choose a wedding dress, wedding shoes, and an engagement ring. And most importantly, she would be the only bridesmaid.
Only after completing all of this would Justin agree to let her go.
Norah couldn’t understand why he would do this. Who would want their ex–wife present at their wedding?
But she realized the reason for Justin’s request soon after.
Everything he was giving Selena now–the grand wedding, the carefully selected dress, and the perfect ceremony–was once meant for her. He wanted her to watch as all the dreams they had once shared, all the love they had built, were handed over to another woman.
When Norah and Justin had gotten married, there had been no wedding, not even a photoshoot. He had simply taken her to the courthouse, signed the papers, and their life together had begun.
That marriage had been nothing but a dream–a cycle of revenge and pain. There was never any need for Justin to put his heart into it. Now that he was starting a new chapter, his marriage would finally be one of happiness and love.
At the bridal boutique, Norah sat quietly on the side, watching as Selena tried on one wedding dress after another.
The gowns were already breathtaking in the display windows, but when worn, they looked even more stunning and ethereal.
No wonder people always said that a wedding dress was every woman’s dream. The feeling of wearing one was simply different.
Justin stood below the platform, watching Selena with gentle admiration. Every time she changed into a new dress, he would nod in approval.
The staff and Selena were full of praise for Justin.
“Ms. Jones, Mr. Johnson really adores you. Not many grooms would take wedding dress shopping so seriously.”
“You two are a perfect match! You’re absolutely made for each other.”
“Mr. Johnson must spoil you a lot. These wedding gowns are worth a fortune. Most people wouldn’t even dare to touch them.”
Selena lowered her gaze with a soft smile, occasionally glancing at Norah. “Yes, Justin treats me very well.”
After finalizing the dress, they all headed to the beachfront venue to confirm the wedding location.
The beach wedding was Selena’s choice. She had said she loved the ocean, so the wedding would be held on the beach. At night, everyone would board a yacht for a party. It would be an unrestrained and romantic wedding.
Once on the yacht, Justin was busy discussing the wedding details with the event staff, while Selena and Norah rested on the deck.
By chance, Selena caught sight of the pendant Norah was holding.
When Norah first received it years ago, she had immediately shown it to Selena. So, Selena naturally recognized what it was.
Selena’s expression changed instantly. Without hesitation, she snatched the pendant from Norah’s hands. “Didn’t you say you were cutting ties with him? Why do you still have this?”
Norah immediately reached out to take it back. “It’s just a pendant. Give it back to me.”
Selena’s resentment deepened when she saw how anxious Norah was. She threw the pendant to the deck and stomped on it hard. “If you want to cut ties, then do a clean cut. What’s the point of holding on to this?”
The emerald shattered into pieces instantly.
Norah didn’t even have time to process the sadness when Selena suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Together, they plunged straight into the
