Ever since Selena “saved” Justin, his treatment of her had become almost excessive. Even the household staff knew that in the Johnson residence, the second most important person- besides Justin–was now Selena.
Justin had promised Selena that he would give her anything she wanted as long as she asked.
Leaning into his embrace, Selena’s voice was as gentle as ever as she said, “I don’t want anything. I just want a title. Justin, you know I’ve always wanted to marry you.”
The arms Justin had around her suddenly stiffened. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke, “I can agree to anything but this.”
Selena abruptly lifted her head, tears already glistening in her eyes.
“It’s because of Norah, isn’t it? You love her so much… But does she love you? Justin, do you really not notice the one who has always been by your side?”
With that, she pushed him away and ran out, eyes red with emotion.
Justin barely had time to react before the sharp screech of brakes pierced the air. Rushing outside, he saw Selena lying in a pool of blood.
His expression changed instantly. Striding over, he gathered her in his arms.
She seemed so fragile–like she could disappear from his life at any moment.
Justin clutched her hand, his grip shaking, his gaze filled with both regret and tenderness. “I’ll do it. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you!”
Selena finally wore a satisfied smile at Justin’s reply.
The accident wasn’t bad. After a simple wound treatment at the hospital, Selena was discharged.
The first thing Justin did after that was ask Norah for a divorce. They sat on opposite ends of the living room couch, both exuding an air of cold detachment.
Justin spoke first, “Tell me how much of the property you want.”
Norah flipped through the divorce papers absentmindedly. “Whatever you think is fair. But there’s one thing I must have.”
Justin’s brows furrowed. “What is it?”
Closing the document, Norah answered calmly, “The heirloom you gave me years ago.”
That emerald pendant wasn’t just a family treasure–it was also their token of love.
If she failed her mission one day, she intended to be buried with it so that even in death, she could carry a piece of her past.
Justin’s eyes lit up at those words. He suppressed the trembling in his chest and spoke in a low voice, “If you don’t want to divorce, we don’t have to…”
She knew exactly what he wanted to hear, but she refused to give him that satisfaction.
“Why not? The bigger the divorce settlement, the better. Why wouldn’t I want to get a divorce? I asked someone about that pendant. It’s quite valuable. You must give it to me.”
Her shamelessness made Justin’s face darken with fury. His slender fingers clenched into tight fists, his gaze sharp as a blade, stabbing into her like cold steel.
“You’re heartless, Norah,” he hissed. “See you at the courthouse tomorrow. Don’t be late.”
Norah had never expected their marriage to end just like that.
She thought, given Justin’s personality, he would never let go. He would torment her and break her down completely before finally allowing her to leave.
But now, looking at their names on the divorce certificate, Norah felt a faint sting in her heart.
From this moment on, Norah and Justin would have nothing to do with each other. Like two parallel lines, they were destined never to intersect again.
