Chapter 14

A loud slap echoed through the room as Selena was struck and sent crashing to the ground. Her fair face turned red and began to swell instantly.
She looked up in disbelief. “Justin?” Her voice trembled with sobs. “Why did you hit me? I’ve saved you so many times, yet you hit me!”
As she spoke, something seemed to click in her mind. As she covered her face, her expression darkened with resentment.
“I see now. It’s because of Norah, isn’t it? Did she tell you something? She doesn’t even love you! No matter what she said, how could you not believe me? I’m the one who truly loves you. I’m the one who’s willing to give up everything for you!
“Norah only knows how to enjoy your affection. She’s nothing but a gold–digging tramp. Haven’t you always known that?”
Tears streamed down her face as she spoke, as if she were the one suffering the greatest injustice. But her words only made Justin even more furious.
“You’re asking for it, Selena.”
With those words, Justin kicked her with full force, sending her flying into a pillar. Her forehead slammed against it, and blood began trickling down. Yet, she still couldn’t understand why Justin was treating her this way.
It had to be Norah. It must have been something she did!

Tears blurred Selena’s vision as she crawled toward Justin’s feet, shaking her head pitifully as she cried.
“Justin, tell me what I did wrong! I can change! Please don’t believe Norah’s lies, okay?”
But the indulgence Justin once had for Selena was gone. “If it weren’t for Jeremy’s investigation, I wouldn’t have even known you’ve been lying to me all along,
“You weren’t the one who donated a kidney. You weren’t the one who saved me from the avalanche. It was all Norah! She sacrificed everything for me, and yet you shamelessly took credit for her actions while blaming her for everything!
“You have some nerve, Selena!”
Selena’s face turned ashen. She gripped Justin’s pant leg tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“I didn’t mean for it to be like this, Justin. You have to believe me! I just love you too much. I couldn’t stand seeing Norah hurt you and abandon you over and over again!
“But we’re already married. You don’t have to care about Norah anymore. Let’s just live our lives together, okay? I promise I’ll change!
“Justin, please… Forgive me. I’m your wife now…”
Looking up, Selena sobbed uncontrollably. She was desperately hoping for even a shred of forgiveness.
However, she had forgotten that Justin had never been a merciful man. After all, Norah had always been the one he cherished above all else.
Justin’s voice was as cold as ever as he said, “I trusted you too much. That’s why Norah ended up like this. Do you know where she is now? I’ll forgive you if you go and apologize to her.”
Selena’s crying came to an abrupt stop. Her eyes lit up.
She knew it! There was still a chance. She had been by Justin’s side for so long. There was no way he didn’t care about her at all. He could never bear to see her cry.
She nodded quickly as her smile reached her eyes. “Of course! I should apologize–it was my mistake. I’ll make it up to Norah. She likes money, doesn’t she? I’ll give her plenty. She’ll be thrilled.
“Justin, where is she? I’ll apologize to her right now.”
Justin gazed at her, a cruel smile playing on his lips. His voice was like a whisper from hell. “Go to hell and atone for your sins yourself.”
Selena’s face turned deathly pale. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Was Norah…dead?
“That’s impossible! There must be some mistake! This is just another one of her tricks to make you stay! There’s no way Norah is dead!” she shrieked.
The next second, Justin seized her by the throat, lifting her off the ground. His eyes burned with madness.
“Are you going to keep up with this act? Norah would still be alive if not for you!”
