Chapter 21
The comment section buzzed with discussions and an endless stream of congratulatory messages. In just a few minutes, the post had already stacked up with comments like a towering skyscraper.
Enola glanced at the picture, where a pair of slender, well–defined hands rested prominently. Her lips curled into a mocking smirk.
Luckily, she hadn’t made the mistake of trusting Robert again.
“Ennie, what’s wrong?” Sensing het distraction, Parker walked over while handing her an ice cream cone.
“Here. It’s your favorite–strawberry.”
She shook her head before taking a bite, letting the sweet strawberry flavor burst in her mouth, dissolving the shadow in her heart.
“Thank you”
Enola squinted contentedly–blue skies, white clouds, the vast ocean, and the love of her life by her side. This was enough. No matter who it was or what they wanted to do, it had nothing to do with her anymore.
Meanwhile, the wedding preparations were in full swing. The most luxurious venue had been booked, fresh flowers were being flown in from overseas, and priceless jewelry from an auction had been secured.
Many were secretly watching the unprecedentedly grand wedding unfold, while some even started calculating the total expenses from start to finish. For a moment, Chloe became the most enviable woman in everyone’s eyes.
The more people flattered her, the higher she soared. Not to mention, Robert had been treating her better and better.
As the days passed, the anticipation for the wedding only grew stronger. And finally, the day arrived after much eager waiting.
Inside the grandest hotel in Bakersville, the decorations screamed opulence, which was a testament to the groom’s reverence for his bride.
Elite figures from the business world gathered under the dazzling lights, while reporters with cameras moved around, capturing every moment of the highly anticipated event. “I’ve always heard that Robert was particular about choosing a girlfriend, but I never thought he’d go this far for a woman.”
“Exactly! Before this woman came along, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Mr. Shaw being so invested in anyone.”
“Well, I did hear that he had a foster daughter he spoiled beyond belief. But for some reason, he suddenly sent her abroad, and their relationship faded. Coincidentally, this girlfriend of his appeared right after that, didn’t she?”
Amid the murmurs end discussions of the crowd, the emcee stood on stage, guiding the ceremony along its planned course. Dressed in a pristine white suit, Robert stood at the center of attention as all eyes were fixed on him.
Everything proceeded smoothly. When it was time for the bride’s entrance, Chloe, draped in a satin mermaid–style wedding gown, walked down the aisle. She was holding onto her father’s arm as she made her way toward Robert.
Chloe’s father, Andrew Garcia, wore a flattering smile as he placed Chloe’s hand into Robert’s. This was supposed to be the moment for the father to give a heartfelt blessing to the groom. However, instead of addressing Robert, he turned the moment into à lecture for Chloe.
“Once you’re married, you need to rein in your temper. You can’t behave as recklessly as you do at home.
“You’re part of the Shaw family from now on. You must listen to Mr. Shaw and stop throwing childish tantrums. Do you hear me?
“And remember to be respectful Don’t make Mr. Shaw angry all the time. And more importantly, you’d better get pregnant soon and give Mr. Shaw a healthy baby boy to continue the Shaw family line.”
His endless nagging made Chloe’s smile grow increasingly stiff. If not for the fact that this was her wedding day, she would have stormed off right then and there. But as her gaze Landed on Hobert, she forced herself to swallow her anger.
Glow bit back her frustration and dismissed Andrew Impatiently, yet her thoughts involuntarily drifted to the video that had gone viral online just a short while ago–a video ot fools’s wedding
She was a mere orphial with no parents to send her off, only the groom’s family standing in as her own. And yet, they had treated her with the utmost respect during the ceremony, giving her the dignity of a cherished daughter–in–law.
It was unlike what was happening to her.
Despite standing next to her own biological father, there she was, being publicly criticized in front of so many guests. Jealousy and resentment churned within her, twisting her expression slightly as she fought to maintain her composure.
