Chapter 25
Juliet couldn’t figure out where Norman had gotten the nerve to believe she’d ever take him back, she’d decided to move on six years ago. How could she possibly think about wopening that door now?
“Look, Juliet. Doesn’t this cat remind you of Lenny?”
She snapped back to reality, her gaze drifting to the window where Norman stood, holding a cat she hadn’t even noticed he’d brought with him.
with a gentle simile, he said, “Her fur’s just like Lenny’s, and she’s got that same black ring around her neck.”
Juliet’s eves filled with tears as she stared at the cat. She was a spitting image of Lenny
“Where did you find her?” she asked
Norman’s face lit up when he saw her reaction. “I found her while I was visiting your old place. I think she might be one of Lenny’s kittens with another cat. Will you take her? Please, don’t say no.”
Jubet gathered the cat into her arms, holding her close.
Norman was over the moon, his voice filled with excitement. “I brought cat food, a litter box, and even that red ball she loves to play with. She’s really sweet, and I’ve already taken care of her vaccinations-
“How much do I over you? I’ll send you the money,” Juliet interrupted him, her tone polite.
Norman’s smile faltered, and he looked down, his face falling. “I don’t need the money. It’s a gift. I just hope having her around makes you happy.”
Juliet pulled a black card from her bag and handed it to him. “I don’t take favors without paying them back. It has three million on it. If that’s not enough, I can send you more.” Norman clutched the black card, his expression heavy with disappointment as he lowered his gaze. “I’ll wait for you, Juliet, no matter how long it takes. I’ll always be here for you.” Juliet’s voice came out cold and detached. “Why bother? You only get to see me by dying over and over. Doesn’t that ever get tiring?
Norman met her eyes, his gaze filled with resolve. “Yeah, it’s tiring, but I’d do it a thousand times if it means I could be with you! I know someday you’ll feel something and be ready to start over with me!”
Fed up with the conversation, Juliet was about to pull away.
Seth slipped an invitation through the window. “I’ve opened a gallery for you, Juliet. I’ve painted so many warm memories of you and Mom from the past, Will you visit it when you have the chance? Happy birthday.”
Juliet was taken by surprise. Since her rebirth, much of her past had slipped away, including her birthday. She hadn’t expected Seth to remember.
But now, her heart felt as cold and still as a lake. Seth’s gesture didn’t stir anything in her. He wasn’t family to her anymore. No matter what he did, she couldn’t feel a thing She rejected him outright. “There’s no need. Juliet is gone. The person here now is Natalie.”
Like a remorseful child, Seth lowered his eyes. “Please, Juliet, these are your memories with Mam. I know I wasn’t a good brother and don’t deserve to be in the paintings. I only painted you and Mou
Juliet handed him a black card. “I’m buying gallery. Let’s call it even.
Seth gazed at her, his lips trembling, tears threatening to fall down luis face. “Do you really have to be this cruel, Juliet? I’ve owned up to my mistakes. Why can’t you just let me make it right? We’re family. Blood’s supposed to mean something!”
Juliet turned her head, her voice distant Wasn’t it cold enough when you stood by while Norman had me die in Iris‘ place? I was your sister, and you didn’t even try to stop him.‘ “Judet, back then, Thonestly thought you’d come back
“So, it’s toy Lault I’m immortal?” she interrupted him. “Is that why I’m the one who deserved to be sacrificed and discarded by all of you?”
Seth was at loss for words.
After a long pause, he finally said, “I’m sorry,”
Juliet’s tone was detached. “You’ve raised me for six years, Seth. I’ve repaid you with money. I don’t want to owe you anything, and I never want to see you again. I said my goodbye to you six years ago.”
