Chapter 16
Norman’s eyes lit up, and he blurted out excitedly. “A–are you serious? It’s really my wife, Juillet Lennon? Hurry, call her. I need to see her face right now!
The officer shifted uncomfortably, his expression uneasy. “I’m sorry, Mr. Walsh, but we can’t do that because—”
Norman interrupted, “She’s still mad at me, isn’t she? That’s why she won’t talk to me. It’s fine. Once I get home and see her, I’ll fix this.”
He slid into the car and quickly called Seth. “Seth, we found Juliet. We’re heading back to Belcrest now!”
Seth’s voice was heavy with relict. “She’s been found? See? I told you she still cares about you. She couldn’t stay hidden forever, not after hearing you got hurt and ended up in the hospital. This time, you’d better treat her right. Don’t screw it up again.”
I won’t.” Norman said, a faint smile forming on his face. “Once Juliet’s feeling better, I’ll take her to get our wedding photos redone. Then we’ll go to Falorath for a vacation!” Seth hummed in response and said, “You know how much she loves my cooking. When we’re back, I’ll make her meals every day. She’ll be back to her old self in no time, ready for that trip with you!”
Theofficer began to speak but thought better of it and closed his mouth.
Norman and Seth berried to Belcrest Police Station, where an officer named Thomas Lombard led them down to the basement level
Norman’s brow furrowed as a sense of unease crept over him. “This floor only has interrogation rooms. There’s no lounge down here. Did you finally nab that serial killer?” Seth’s expression darkened, his voice edged with frustration. “Officer Lombard, what’s this about? I’m here to see my sister, not some serial killer.”
She’s in the room just up ahead,” Thomas replied
At those words, Norman delta wave of relief wash over him. He glanced down, smoothed out his suit, and adjusted the phalaenopsis orchids he was holding.
“Seth, how do I look in this outfit?” he asked. “Juliet picked it out for me for our Anniversary this year. It’s the first time I’ve worn it.”
“Pretty sharp,” Seth said with a nod of approval. “For someone as particular about appearances as Jullet, just seeing your face is bound to melt her anger away.”
“Mr. Walsh, we’re here,” Thomis announced gravely as he opened the door,
Norman glanced up, his smile freezing in place. The flowers slipped from his hands and bumbled to the floor.
Before him lay the blackened, decaying body of juliet. Her head and limbs had been brutally severed and awkwardly reattached with thread.
Norman stumbled forward, his trembling hand reaching out to touch her purplish–blue cheek.
His voice quivered as he murmured, “Juliet, how could this happen! You’re immortal. You can’t die. Why didn’t you come back this time? Last time, when you died in that car crash sanding me, you came back to life in just three days!”
The body lay still, unmoving-
“Juliet, don’t do this to me. Please, wake up, okay?” Norman pleaded, his thoughts spinning out of control as he cradled her in his arīns,
He pressed desperate kisses to her cold, lifeless lips. “I’m begging you say something. Don’t leave me like this!”
Thomas stepped in to pull him back “Mr. Walsh, please, don’t ruin the body. I’m so sorry for your loss.”
Norman held Juliet’s body tightly) his voice sharp with defiance Get out, all you! Stay away from us! Jubet’s immortal She doesn’t die. She’s just tired, that’s all. She’s sleeping, and when the wakes up, she’ll come back to Me”
The officers exchanged uneasy looks, their faces a mix of altock and disbelled.
