Chapter 9
Albert pushed open the door to Vivienne’s ward, only to be greeted by the sound of things crashing.
Anurse stood by the door, looking helpless, she whispered, “Ms. Palmer has been causing a scene, demanding to see you. We really don’t know what else to do
Albert nodded, signaling for the nurse to step aside, then walked into the room.
The place was a mess, with shattered glass cups, broken plates, and several magazines tomto pieces scattered across the floor.
Vivienne sat on the bed, her face pale and her eyes red–rimmed. She was clutching a pillow in her hands as it she were about to throw it to the floor.
“Get out I don’t want any of you! I want Albert!” Her voice was sharp and grating, carrying a frantic desperation.
Frowning. Albert quickly walked up to her. His voice way tinged with exasperation as he said, “Enough, Vivi,”
Vivienne looked up at the sound of his voice. Her eyes were filled with hurt and anger.
She dropped the pillow and threw herself into his arms. Her voice cracked with emotion. “Albert, I thought you didn’t want me anymore! You’ve never been this mad at me!”
Albert’s hand froze in the air before gently patting her back. He asked, “Do you realize what you’ve done wrong?
Vivienne looked up at him, a stubborn streak in her eyes. “What did I do wrong? 1 just wanted to know who’s more important to you!”
Albert was silent for a while.
At that moment, he couldn’t help but think of Melanie–her calm eyes and the indifferent expression when she told him to be with Vivienne
A strange wave of emotion swept over him, like something was quietly shifting inside him.
Noticing his silence, Vivienne became more agitated. “You’ve changed! You used to tell me I was the most important without hesitation!” Albert troze, suddenly feeling a little lost
It was true. He used to say that without hesitation
But why badi’t he said it this time? Why was Melanie’s face the one on his mind instead?
Albert felt a twinge of anger. He was angry at how easily Melanie had pushed him toward Vivienne, as if she’d never cared about him being with anyone else But Vivienne was still crying and throwing a tantrum, giving him a headache.
After taking a deep breath, Albert tried to calm her down as usual. “You’re the most important, of course. Alright. Didn’t you say I never spend enough time with you? How about I take you out today? Anywhere you want to go!
Vivienne’s crying stopped immediately. She looked up at him, eyes full of hope. “Really?
Albert nodded and replied gently, “Really. But you have to promise me one thing. You can’t disturb Melanie anymore.”
Vivienne’s lace linmediately darkened. Her voice was tinged with irritation as she said, “Melanie, Melanie, Melanie! It’s always Melanie! Do you even remember who loves you the most?”
„Albert’s hand paused for a second before he gently stroked her hair. He replied in resignation, “I know. But we can’t be together, can we? Isn’t this enough for now? I’ll will love you and take care of you.”
As soon as the words left bus mouth, though, he felt strange sense of mine ase
He realized that saying “I love you” felt harder than it ever had before.
Eunately, Vivienne didn’t notice. She just pouted and quickly wrapped herself around him, pulling him into plans for a date.
