Chapter 19
Sophia’s footsteps came to an abrupt halt. Before she could even process what was happening, Caleb had already rushed forward and stopped right in front of her.
It wasn’t that long of a distance, but Caleb dashed to her as if running a 100–meter dash. His pale face was slightly flushed, and his eyes were sparkling, looking just as breathtaking as when she had first seen him. He smiled radiantly and said, “I’ve finally found you, Sophia.”
Sophia finally looked up, calmly addressing Caleb, and asked, “Is there something I can help you with?”
Caleb was completely stunned by Sophia’s calm, indiferent tone. Her gaze while looking at him looked as it she was looking at a complete stranger. He had never seen such an expression on Sophia’s face. Even in their first meeting, Sophia had at least shown him a bit of friendliness typically shown toward an underclassman.
He couldn’t help but feel a sharp pang in his heart. He finally spoke up, his usual pride replaced with a rare humility, saying, “I came because I wanted to tell you that it was all my fault. I’m really sorry, Sophia.”
Sophia was momentarily stunned. However, before she could even respond to him, Caleb continued, “I’m so sorry, Sophia. I shouldn’t have approached you with a hidden agenda from the beginning. I shouldn’t have deceived you for Christine’s admission spot in grad school. I never should have schemed against you in any way. I shouldn’t have ”

Sophia gazed at Caleb, a flicker of disbelief crossing her face. She never would have thought he would come all this way just to apologize to her. She also didn’t Jexpect that someone as proud as him would say something so self–effacing.
However, the ripple of emotion was fleeting, like a pebble dropped in water, quickly returning to stillness. She nodded slightly and replied, “I get it. I forgive you.” Having beard that, Caleb’s eyes immediately lit up with a surge of excitement. He knew that Sophia still had feelings for him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have forgiven him so readily
His joy was short–lived, though, as Sophia suddenly asked, “Can I leave now?”
Caleb immediately stiffened, his gaze snapping to Sophia. Despite her words of absolution, her face remained a mask of indifference. The sudden realization struck him like a blow, twisting his beart. He knew, with a sinking feeling, that her forgiveness was a façade.
He immediately got arocious and grabbed Sophia’s hand, saying, “You’ve forgiven me, so please, just give me one more chance, Sophia. Can you please allow me to pursue you again? I’ll do anything, Sophia Please just give me one more chance!”
