Caleb had just i gotten downstairs when one of his friends horied over and exclaimed, “Call I just got back from drinking, and i saw Christine in an alleyway near campus. It seemed like she was being harassed by a middle–aged man!”
Caleb was stunned, wondering if Jonathan was the one bothering Christine again.
Hissteps faltered momentarily, and just as he did, the butler’s voice came through from the other end of the line, saying, “It’ll take at least three hours to get the private jet ready, Mr. Lancaster.”
Caleb came back to his senses and instructed, “Get it ready as soon as possible! I’ll be there shortly!”
Having ended the call, he made his way to the alleyway his friend had indicated. He then discovered Christine and jonathan there. He also witnessed Jonathan slapping Christine across the lace,

You said you could make your way into the Lancaster family by marrying Calch. You told me that you’ll give me 500,000 dollars! Are you going to follow through or not?
Caleb immediately stopped in his tracks.
Christine covered her cheek and asked coldly, “How many times do I have to explain this to you? Caleb and I didn’t actually break up. It’s just a strategy to get him under my control. I fabricated a plan to pursue graduate studies and broke up with him to render myself unattainable. It’s only by doing so that I could be his ideal fixation–the one he can’t move on from. Do you not trust my plan?=
Caleb could hardly process what he had just heard. It turned out that Christine had no intention of pursuing graduate school and that the breakup and the fabricated plan for further studies were mere calculated ploys to control him. What had been the purpose of his pursuit of Sophia for the graduate school admission spot, then?
Having heard Christine’s explanation, Jonathan spat, “You should stop fooling me with that excuse of yours! I’ve already heard that Caleb has broken up with his gittrend. Why isn’t he getting back together with you then? You better be honest with me–has he lost interest in you? Has he developed feelings for Sophia?”
Christine’s hands involuntarily clenched into tists. She quickly regained her composure and asked coldly, “Do you know why Caleb broke up with Sophia? It’s all because of me! I pretended that Sophia had injured my face at the karaoke barback then.
“It enraged Caleb so much that he instructed his group of friends to humiliate Sophia, which resulted in her leaving the country in despair. Do you get it now? It’s clear that Caleb likes me, not her!”
Caleb’s complexion further paled. He realized that he had indeed misjudged Sophia at the karaoke bar incident. His fists clenched tightly as he recalled Sophia’s resolute gaze and pallid countenance back then. He couldn’t believe what he had done to her then! Though Sophia had explicitly denied any wrongdoing, he had completely disorganded her. He had even handed over to
friends!
