Chapter 13
Caleb’s face drained of color as he asked, “What do you mean by graduate studies? Didn’t she say she wasn’t planning on pursuing her master’s
Sophia’s roommates were taken aback by Caleb’s questions,
* Sophia couldn’t make up her mind between studying in Charla or abroad. However, she recently made the decision to pursue them abroad. You two are pretty close, right? Didn’t she tell you about this?
It was then that her other roommate chimed in, “You were apologizing to her downstairs yesterday, right? Didn’t you do that because you were hoping to make up before she left for abroad?
“Ithought she went to the field this moming to make up with you before catching her flight. Isn’t that what happened?”
Though Sophia’s roommates were left bewildered, Caleb had already snapped out of his daze. He immediately turned and sprinted toward the parking lot. There was only one flight to the city where Stellanford University was, and it was about to take off in half an hour.
He drove like a lunatic, disregarding countlesstraffic lights, before finally arriving at the airport. “I need a ticket to Stellandford, Mavrosia!TM Having heard that, the airport staff looked at Caleb with a perplexed expression and said, “I regret to inform you, but the check–in counters h you can no longer purchase a ticket now.”
have already closed, so
Though he had already anticipated this, Caleb still yelled, “I’ll pay whatever it takes! I just need to get through the customs area! I have to find someone!” That staff member looked at him helplessly and explained, “That plane has already taken off. There’s no way you can locate anyone at this point.”
Caleb was completely stunned after heating that. Though he had no recollection of how he returned to the university, he recklessly parked his car and walled to the sports field, where he sat motionless from dawn to dusk
There were initially some onlookers gathered around Caleb, hoping to witness Sophia’s arrival. However, as time wore on, it became evident that she wouldn’t show up, and the onlookers gradually lost interest and left the scene.
There were still some people whispering amongst themselves in the group of oninoloers.
“Did Caleb just get dumped? His girlfriend was a no–show the whole time.
“I heard his girlfriend has already left Chuvarla. It seems like he really got dumped,”
Though those onlookers were gossiping amand hum, Caleb couldn’t be bothered. He remained seated on the sports field, not even knowing what he was waiting for. Though he laww full well that Sophia had likely already boarded the plane and left, making her retum impossible, Caleb still waited stubbornly for her.
His mind was a battleground of questions, the most prominent being why Sophia had so suddenly decided to study abroad. Had his actions from the previous night, leaving her with his group of friends, been the cause of lver sudden departure?
He immediately rejected that notion Sophia’s acceptance to the university had been secured well in advance, and a decision like studying abroad couldn’t have been made in just two days. He couldn’t Jelp but wonder if she had been planning this all along and, if so, why she would do that. He couldn’t recall ever doing nothing to upset hier.
He made an effort to remember, tracing back through his menores. He eventually recalled the Truth or Dare game from that day. He couldn’t help but wonder if Sophia got upset because he stood up for Christie a couple of times during the gate.
He found himself more convinced of his theory the inoue he thought about it. It was undeniable that Sophia’s behavior had taken an odd tum following that
that she actually left to study abroad just
“Damn!” Calebi muttered a cuise under his breath, thinking at Sophia’s temper was beyond reason. He couldn’t believe that s because he had defended Clicistine a couple of times backfleis
He instantly felt a surge of afger rising within him. He had always been boma lugh–ther, blessed with both atience and captivating looks, which had attracted a multitude of female admirers throughout his you
Those he had favored had readily responded to his alightest cue–except for Christine, who had been the rare exception. He had never imagined that even sophia, who had always obeyed him, would leave in such an abrupt and silent manner. Her actions had only deepened his irritation.
He dismissed it, thanking that he had only been involved with Sophia to secuse Christine’s guaranteed aduission spot to graduate school. Her leaving meant she wouldn’t be competing with Christine for the spot anymore, which actually worked out well for him.
He was still fuming ashe stood up to leave. He, however, stopped himself after taking a look at his watch, noting that it was already 9.00 pm. There was still time before the day concluded. He couldn’t help but wonder if Sophia hadn’t felt Clavaria and if she had only been testing him. What if she intended to make her appesante at the very last mIZE?
Having considered this, Caleb sat back down. He reasoned that, having already waited for so long, he could still endure another three hours. He tried to convince himself of this, but titsrpassed steadily, and Sophia still didn’t show up.
His spirits framediately plummeted at the stroke of midnight. He had just gotten to leave when an unexpected yet familiar voice rang out, exclaiming, “I’ve told you so many times—don’t comer loolding for me at the university!”
