Chapter 87 Jared Is Arrested
Eric glanced at Jared. “Do you have anything else to say for yourself, Mr. Ladley?”
Jared was already so frightened by the video that he had lost all courage. He trembled and collapsed to his knees.
“The video is take, Mr. Flint,” he said weakly. “I definitely didn’t steal Mr. Sinclair’s core technology! The technology I presented to my new company was personally designed and developed by me and has nothing to do with him!”
He was still making excuses in his current situation.
I couldn’t help but sneer at him, “If you really did develop it on your own, why do you look so guilty? Actually, it doesn’t matter whether or not you admit to it now. As long as we hand the evidence over to the police, all your efforts will have been for nothing. Your voluntary cont ession will only serve to reduce your sentence.”
Jared shuddered at my words, the panic and fear in his eyes becoming more apparent. He stiffly turned to look at Zachary
With reddened eyes, he yelled in a choked voice, “I–I didn’t steal your technology on purpose, Zachary! I’m begging you please just let me off this once!
“I the police really do arrest me, the rest of my life will be ruined. You know how it is with my family. I have the elderly and children to take care of, and my mother is still receiving treatment in the hospital. What are my mother and my wife going to do if I’m arrested?” Jared groveled in front of Zachary, stubbornly refusing to let go of his trouser leg and pleading insistently for mercy.
Zachary stated silently at him. Although his expression wavered, he remained firm.
“Don’t worry. After you go to jail, I’ll help you take care of your family,” he told Jared. “You’ll have to pay the price for what you’ve done!”
Jared was stunned.
After calling the police, Jared was eventually arrested. Even as he was being taken away, he continued to yell and curse at us.
Zachary looked at Eric and 1 with embarrassment. “Sorry for causing you trouble by barging into the exchange meeting without an invitation, Ms. Brown and Mr. Flint. I’ll leave immediately!”
Zachary nodded at me before turning to leave. However, Eric suddenly spoke up.
“Ms. Brown thinks highly of your game development skills. I happen to know a few investors who are interested in investing in that field. If you’re willing to stay, I can arrange for someone to introduce you to them ”
Zachary’s eyes instantly widened in disbelief. “Really? Are you really willing to introduce me to investors, Mr. Elint?
Eric did not reply. Instead, he simply called for one of his men to guide Zachary to meet the game investors.
Once Eric and I were the only ones left, I looked at him with a complicated expression on my face.
“You had everything planned out, didn’t you?” I asked with certainty. “You knew that Zachary would cause a scene today, so you prepared the evidence beforehand?”
This was a business exchange meeting hosted by Flint Group, and the attendees were all big names in the business world. How could there be game investors in an event like this?
If not for Eric arranging all this in advance, Zachary would never have lucked out on such a good opportunity.
Eric pursed his lips slightly, as if he was afraid that I would be angry.
After a few seconds of silence, he explained, “I actually already knew about you and Zachary, so I ordered my men to investigate the incident. The reason I had the evidence on hand was because I wanted to be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances, I didn’t actually know that he would cause a scene here today.
“As for those game investors I mentioned, they aren’t actually present at this event. I simply had my inen bring Zachary to meet them. As for whether or not he’ll be able to win their favor, that depends on his own capabilities.
“But I must say that the person you’ve shown favor for certainly has some backbone. He’s capable of prioritizing righteousness above personal feelings and even declared that he would take care of Jared Ladley’s family in his stead, which is enough to prove that he’s a
man of honor.”
Embracing With Open Arms
I sighed. I opened my mouth to speak, but for a moment, I had no idea what to say.
Eric already had everything planned out for me.
Logically speaking, I should have felt moved, but I was instead feeling rather sullen. If Eric had to handle everything for me, then what else was there left for me to do?
