Chapter 25
On the other end of the phone, I could hear the sound of my mother playing blackjack, along with her impatient voice.
“Joshua, why are you calling me?”
“Mom, when are you coming to the hospital to visit me?”
As I asked the question, my grip on the phone tightened instinctively, and my palm began to sweat.
The sound of shuffling cards continued. It was noisy in the background, but I could still clearly hear her reply.
“You’re fine, so there’s no point in me visiting you. Besides, you have so many people around you. One more person doesn’t make a difference.”
“But
Before 1 could finish, the call was abruptly ended.
The cold, repetitive beeping of the phone echoed in my ears, striking my heart with every tone.
Over the next two days, Sophia continued visiting me at the hospital, chatting with me, feeding me various soups, and cutting fruit. Slowly, I believed there might be genuine affection from her side.
But on the fourth day, after feeding me soup, she walked out of the room and saw a familiar figure. Things began to feel strange.
Through the slightly ajar door, I saw Edison come to find her.
red, looking pitiful as he gazed at her. “Sophie, I miss you so much. You haven’t seen me in such a long time and haven’t replied to my messages. Is it true that you don’t want me anymore?”
Sophia frowned, her eyes filled with mixed emotions as she looked at him, standing not far away.
She clearly hadn’t expected him to show up at the hospital to find her.
Since I had woken un
up, or perhaps since she realized Edson wasn’t as perfect as she had thought, her obsession with him had somewhat faded, But like any woman caught in a tangled relationship, things in this world were often as complicated as a messy konat. “Sophie?
After he called out to her again in a pleading tone, she replied helplessly, “How did you end up at the hospital?”
Hearing this, he perked up like a dog who had just found a bone, happily jumping over to her and grabbing her hand,
“Sophie, you’ve lost so much weight recently.”
Sophia subtly pulled her hand back, tiredly rubbing her temple. “I’ve been busy lately, running between the company and the hospital. I haven’t been resting well
He immediately noticed the change in her behavior. He had keenly sensed that she wasn’t as warm toward him as before.
Was it because she felt sorry for me and decided to give up

A sense of crisis rose within him as he instinctively turned toward the ward. His eyes met mine through the gap in the door.
He raised an eyebrow at me, giving a provocative simile, and then purposely stepped forward, affectionately ruffling her hair.
“Sophie, I know you’ve been busy, so I made you some nourishing soup. Let me take you home to have it, alright?”
Sophia seemned to remember something, glancing toward the direction of the room. Fortunately, I had quicldly looked away and wasn’t spotted
The next moment, I heard her gentle voice coming from afar.
“I’ve been too tired lately. I don’t want to keep running around anymore.”
Edison’s eyes flashed with a flicker of unease, but he quickly replaced it with his usual pitiful expression, gazing at her carefully.
*Sophie, I’ve been worried about Joshua’s situation, so I’ve been coming to the hospital secretly to check on him these past few days. I was afraid you’d be upset, and I didn’t want you to collapse from exhaustion at the hospital
“I wanted to visit you several times, but I was afraid of bothering you, so I just stayed far away and watched you. See, I’ve been so obedient, haven’t 12”
