Chapter 17
“Joshua’s condition has nothing to do with you two. Get out now!”
After shouting those words, Jayden turned and sat on a nearby bench, his bloodshot eyes fixed in Joshua’s direction.
Sophia stood frozen, her lips trembling as if she wanted to speak, but no words came out.
Joshua had ended up like this because of her. She was the one responsible. But how could she not hate him when Edson had died while being with him?
Edison sensed her emotional turmoil and gently patted her shoulder. “Sophie, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come here and caused trouble. I’ll leave now.” There was no point in him staying. If she cared about him, she would leave with him, just as she had done so many times before.
But this time, she was different.
She quietly looked at him. “You should go home and rest.
Once a
all this is settled, I’ll come to you.”
He froze momentarily, then gave her the smile she liked most.
“Alright. I’ll wait for you”
He hesitated briefly before turning and walking away in silence.
At that moment, he seemed to fully realis coming Sophia truly cared about Joshua.
He needed to step back and focus on pushing their divorce forward to maintain his current relationship and lifestyle. That was his gains.
Later that day, Sophia sought out the doctor who had performed the surgery to ask about Joshua’s condition.

The doctor showed her his test results and scans. “The patient’s situation is critical. The cancer cells are spreading much faster than we anticipated. At this rate, he has less than three months to live
“What’s most urgent now is to proceed as planned–secure the medication that suppresses cancer cell growth and start treatment immediately. While slowing the cell division, we must also proceed with chemotherapy.”
When she heard the truth about his condition, her eyes reddened. Large tears fell, cascading like a broken string of pearls.
She spotted Jayden and Juliette standing just outside as she left the ward.
“Juliette, when will the cancer suppression medication arrive?”
“The moment the payment clears, it will be delivered.” Her voice was as indifferent as ever. After speaking, she couldn’t resist a bit of gossip. “Tayden, do you think his wife has been holding off on paying because she doesn’t want to spend the money to treat him?”
“Watch your mouth! Sophia, on the verge of breaking down, stormed forward and grabbed Jayden by the collar.
“If that medicine could slow down his condition, why didn’t you tell me earlier? It even one of you had told me he was sick, maybe his situation wouldn’t be this dire!”
Jayden pressed his lips together, silent and unresponsive.
Juliette let out a derisive laugh, her tone icy as she retorted, “Would it have mattered if we told you? Are you blaming us for your infidelity and neglect? It you truly cared about Joshua, you would have noticed his drastic changes long ago.
“Ms. Holmes, we understand you’re busy with countless responsibilities, but today’s outcome is your karma. You shouldn’t blame Jayden. After all, he’s done far more for Joshua than you ever did.”
