Jonathan smiled slightly and said, “That’s because I was pretending to be good. How would you have taken the bait if I hadn’t
put on an act?”
Cynthia laughed and thought, ‘He’s quite proud of himself, isn’t he?‘ She tilted her head, propped her arms up, and stared at the man beside her.
He was really handsome, with a flawless face, like the hero in a comic book. In his left ear, he had a tiny stud earring set adorned with a tiny blue sapphire.
If someone had not been paying attention, they might not have noticed, but from the first day she saw him, Cynthia knew that he wore blue stud earrings that he never took off
He seemed distant and cold, but the small stud earring gave him a carefree vibe. The initial aloofness and recklessness seemed contradictory, yet they complemented eachrother perfectly in him. It was fascinating
Cynthia suddenly became interested and gently pinched Jonathan’s earlobe with her long, white fingers. “You wear that stud carring all the time. Is there any story behind it?” Cynthia asked.
Based on Jonathan’s lifestyle, Cynthia did not think he was unconventional when it came to dressing up. On the contrary, he usually wore a suit and leather shoes. There were no other accessories except for watches, so Cynthia wondered what the stud earring meant to Jonathan.
Cynthia’s little hand pinched her earlobe, which quickly turned red. Jonathan grabbed her hand and said, “It’s a gift. doesn’t mean anything special.”
Cynthia asked, “Are they from a woman?”
Jonathan turned to look at Cynthia with interest. “Are you jealous?” he asked.
Cynthia smiled brightly and replied, “Jealousy is not my thing”
Jonathan turned around and muttered, “How boring. I’ll tell you when you get jealous.”
Cynthia shrugged indifferently and looked out the car window as she thought, That woman must be very important to him
Jonathan headed to the supermarket. Cynthia’s joke about wanting to try his cooking turned out to be serious as he began carefully selecting ribs.
After returning home, Jonathan did cook in person, making barbecue ribs for Cynthia.
It was very late after the dinner was over.
Cynthia nestled herself in the cane chair on the balcony, feeling satiated from the delicious meal.
Jonathan washed the dishes and sat down next to Cynthia. ‘Are you full?”
Cynthia touched her slightly bulging belly and answered with a smile, “I look like I’m three months pregnant.”
Jonathan glanced at Cynthia’s lower abdomen. She was thin, and her belly was usually flat. Jonathan put his hand on her belly and said, “Let’s do some exercise to help with digestion then.
Cynthia did not refuse. She had to admit that she enjoyed being with Jonathan. Besides, she had insomnia. Only when she was exhausted could she sleep inore soundly.
In the meantime, Filip went to the TV station every day for the following days to pick up Lilian. He went early every day. and there were many chances of seeing Cynthia. However, they did not say a word to each other, as if they were strangers.

During those days, Jonathan had been on a business trip to Japrium. At night, Cynthia lay alone in bed, unable to fall asleep, thinking. ‘I can’t believe I miss him. When Jonathan was not around, the house felt empty, and Cynthia struggled with
insomnia.

six in the evening, Cynthia had just finished her makeup and fell asleep on the couch in the lounge. When Filip came in, only Cynthia was there.
During those days, Filip visited every day. He was the only one aware that picking up Lilian was just an excuse; his true intention was to see Cynthia. Since Jonathan hadn’t been there since that incident, Filip felt even more convinced that what had happened last time was merely an exception.
Cynthia valued being Mrs. Yates so much, and even used to threaten to cut her wrist. Therefore, Filip thought, ‘Cynthia wouldn’t give up so easily; everything she has done is part of her strategy
Although Filip hated Cynthia, he did not want to set her free. He tried to keep her in the same position. Even if they tortured each other for the rest of their lives, Filip was unwilling to let her go.
The woman on the couch was fast asleep. Her beautiful face reminded him of Sleeping Beauty in a fairy tale. Filip unconsciously approached, kneeling in front of the couch as he stared dazedly at Cynthia’s face..
Filip suddenly recalled how he used to gaze at Cynthia while she slept. When she was awake, he rarely dared to look at her in the same way. Cynthia was like the noon sun–beautiful, yet blinding.
Filip admitted that he had felt an inferiority complex while growing up with Cynthia, as she excelled in everything–her looks, academic performance, interpersonal relationships, and various talents.
He felt inferior to her in every way, which both fueled his love for her and stirred uncontrollable jealousy. Unbeknownst to him, he became increasingly self–conscious around her. He recalled that although they had been together for over two years, they had never kissed–not because he didn’t want to, but because he didn’t dare.
He recalled the time he had mustered the courage to approach her slowly. Just when the atmosphere felt right, Cynthia burst out laughing, saying they knew each other so well that Filip’s face reminded her of the embarrassing moments they had shared in kindergarten. He felt immediately discouraged and never tried to kiss her again.
At that moment, Filip’s face was very close to Cynthia’s. He had no idea why, but he found himself staring at her beautiful features. Filip’s heart began to race, and a single thought began to fester in his mind.
Filip leaned in, and his lips came closer. His heart was pounding like a drum. His fingers clenched into a fist at the intense tension he had not felt in years.
His lips were about to touch Cynthia’s cheek when the door to the lounge creaked open.
Filip was startled, and his back felt tense. Perhaps it was because he was so flustered that he forgot to stand up.
Cynthia was also awakened by the noise. She found Filip’s face close to hers and Lilian standing in the doorway.
