Today, all 1 wok of God is to take this feeling I have for him out of my chest. I thought, but I didn’t say anything, and as if he had read my thoughts, someone appeased in found of me, and even with the mask on, I knew who it was
My Father’s Best Friend
Happy birthday, princess.
POV WILLIAM
I knew I wasn’t supposed to fall in love, look at the mess it caused. From the beginning, I knew everything would go wrong. After all, no one should fall in love with
My eyes were automatically drawn in your direction, I could hardly avoid it. And I wonder if John never noticed anything, because honestly, I can’t even hide it
julia looked beautiful.
More beautiful than ever.
She wore a long black dress with some red details and some sparkles. She wore her mask, and it’s amazing how this time I recognized her right away.
Our eyes met, and for a moment, everything around us disappeared. There were no people, no music, nothing–just her.
Our masks covered our entire faces, but our gaze spoke more than a thousand words.
I took a step towards her, and this time I wouldn’t avoid her. It was her birthday, and I wanted to congratulate her and give her the present I bought with all my bear. But several people approached her, hugging her and wishing her happiness. I stepped back, grabbed another drink, and downed it. Every seconil, my eyes remained on her–on my girl. Julia didn’t seem very comfortable surrounded by so many people.
“You don’t even hide it: wwa approached me.
“I didn’t even see you coming.” I commented without looking at her.
“Of course. Your eyes have only one direction,” she said, and I agreed.
“I love her,” I confessed, something that was so obvious.
“I lived to see this moment,” she laughed. “I didn’t imagine it would be with my baby girl, but I’m happy you’ve found someone
“She doesn’t want me anymore.” I lamented.
“Will, Julia is just a girl. She was just starting to live now,” she sighed. “I know my daughter cares a lot about you. She has been devastated over the past feur months. But she was also scared about your situation with Angeline
“I told her I would figure all of this out,” 1 grumbled…
“By marrying Angeline?” she questioned. My shoulders tensed, I hated this topic.
“Julia asked me to
to do that,” I argued. And Ava chuckled ironically.
“Oh, my God, William,” she said, shaking her head. “Aren’t you the women’s expert?” she asked. “She said that in the heat of the moment. In reality, I don’t know what was going on in her mind, but believe me, that’s not what she wanted.”
Julia was laughing at something someone had said, and for a moment, her eyes turned back in my direction. Every time she looked at me, I felt overwhelming emotions. A flutter in my stomach.
“I’m going to talk to her, I announced, adjusting myself as I saw the surrounding crowd thin out a bit. Ava tried to say something, but I didn’t pay attention and walked toward her.
My hands were in my pant pockets, and my gaze was fixed on the w woman who had been disturbing my peace.
As I got closer, she noticed, her eyes widening in surprise. She oven took a step back.
“May 17” I extended my arm toward her, Julia looked at my outstretched arm and then back at me. She nodded, with two steps, I was an inch away. I held onto her waist famly, and I hugged her tightly, feeling every part of her body.
Damn.
How did I miss this contact with her. How I missed this feeling of being by her side. The exhilaration she brings me just through her presence.
Not a single day in these cursed four months went by without me missing her.
Happy birthday princess
I ran my hands up her back, feeling her tremble in my arms. I reached her head, where I stroked her hair, which I’m so and of.
“Happy hitludas, princess,” I whispered in her ear, leaving a lingering kiss on her head.
Thank you” I heard her voice, low and choked.
1 reluctantly pulled away and held her hand, maintaining eye contact.
“I wanted to give you your present,‘ I informed her.
“Of course,” she said, looking around. People were so engrossed in their worlds that they didn’t notice what was happening here.
“Could it be on the balcony?” I pointed to a balcony decorated with lights, but there was no one there.
Julia looked around again and then back at me,
“Your fiancée didn’t come?” she asked.
“No” was the only thing I said. It felt strange talking about Angeline with her.
“Okay,” she agreed.
I sighed in relief and continued holding her hand as we went to the balcony
Julia quickly pulled her hand away upon reaching the balcony, and I looked at her with uncertainty.
“Someone might suspect something,” she justified.
Reluctantly, I nodded and leaned on the railing, looking down at a beautiful landscape with trees. The starry sky was above us, adding to the view.
“I missed you,” I confessed.
She remained silent, and I could bell she was uncomfortable as she shifted beside me.
“You don’t have to say anything. I just felt the need to tell you.” I spoke,
“You’re getting married,” she said, ber eyes lost in the sky.
“If you tell me you love me and that we’ll be together, Ell leave everything behind, I admitted sincerely.
She laughed bitterly and shook her head.
“I don’t want to build my happiness on someone else’s sadness. You’re going to be a father and form a beautiful family.”

“I love you,” I said with all my heart.
“But you’re going to marry someone else,” she said bitterly
I placed my hand over Julia’s, which was resting on the balcony railing. She looked at me.
“Jelia, don’t you understand that I love you? It’s in your eyes that I find peace. It’s in your embrace that I find comfort. Furthermore, it’s your mouth that I desire. It’s your touch that’s my downfall. It’s in you that I find clarity. Likewise, it’s in your body that my insanity rides. It’s in your heart that I make my home. My carefree Laughter is all yours. My smile is all yours. My heart and my life belong entirely to you. The love I carry in my chest is all yours. And it’s for you that it overflows in my heart,” I declared, my voice choked with tear trapped in my throat.
“I received your engagement invitation today… On my birthday,” she said sadly, ignoring what I had just said.
I muttered a curse under my breath. I had told Angeline not to send this stuff yet.
“Tim sorry about that. I didn’t know,” I sincerely apologized. I removed my mask an she could see that I truly loved her.
She looked surprised, as my eyes were brimming with tears.
This was the effect she had on me.
I live you. What do I need to do for you to believe me? For you to be with me?” I asked, devastated. I was desperate without her
Happy birthday princess.
“William…” she spoke softly, raising her hand to touch my face. Julia caressed my face and wiped away a few tears. “Don’t cry,” she pleaded.
Her voice was choked, and 1 was sure that if she removed her mask, her state wouldn’t be any different from mine.
Wheld her band, bringing it to my lips and leaving a kiss on it.
This is how I feel when I’m away from you. I’m shattered,” I said, opening my arms.
My Father’s Best Friend
Since when are you fooling everyone?
POV JULIA
Seeing a man like that, crying in front of me, begging to be with me, saying he loves me… It did make me waver, I won’t lie. But at the same time, I felt like a homewrecker, and I didnt want to build my happiness on someone else’s sadness. Yet, this decision to stay away from him wasn’t making me feel any better. I was suffering. I loved him.
Was it right for me to suffer so that someone else could be happy?
Was it right for me to give up the love of my life for someone else?
“You know that my heart belongs only to you, forever. It’s yours, only yours,
yours,” I said, placing his hand on my chest
Williams face lit up when his eyes met mine again.
“There’s nothing wrong if we’re together. I need you, and you need me. It’s simple: We complete each other, we’re enough for each other,” he said with such certainty and conviction.
William removed my mask and caressed my face. He got close enough for me to know he would kiss me. I pulled away, and he looked at ine, puzzled.
I’m not going to kiss you while y
you’re engaged to someone else,” I said firely. I refuse to be a mistress!
“I wanted to kiss you,” he grumbled, reaching for his phone to make a call. I held his wrist, looking
at him reproachfully.
“You re not going to end your engagement with a phone call,” I said firmly.
“But that’s
s how it started,” he mumbled.
“It doesn’t matter. End it the right way, at least.”
William tried to argue further, but I reprimanded him with my gaze, and he agreed.
“I thought about giving you the best birthday present that only I would be capable of giving you,” he said, and I knew his intentions. I shook my head, laughing.
“Well have plenty of opportunities,” I said, and he agreed.
“Well, let me give you your present,” he said, rummaging through his pants pocket and pulling out a large velvet box. I looked at him expectantly. “Close your eyes,” he instructed.
“What? Why?” I asked.
“Close your eyes, princess,‘ he asked again. His eyes were shining
I did as he asked and closed my eyes. I felt William move away, and then I sensed him behind me. He brushed my hair to the side, placing it over my left shoulder. He kissed me there. God, I was already soaking wet. I felt something cold on my neck and deduced it was a necklace. Another kiss was planted on my nape, making me shiver.
“I love how your body reacts to me, he whispered. “You can open your eyes now, my love.”
I opened my eyes and save the beautiful necklace now hanging around my neck. It was made of gold and had a mask pendant, which meant so much to both of us. It was at a masquerade hall that we were together for the first time, and now, again at a masked party, we were making amends,
I placed my hands over the pendant, feeling tears roll down my face.
“Wow, I love it I smiled genuinely
“Don’t cry,” he said, wiping my tears away.
We heard someone clear their throat, and we turned to see a suspicious and furious Brian behind us.
Since
earthe
when have you two been together?” he asked, approaching us.
*Brian. I tried to say something, but he raised his hand, silencing me.
(Aren’t you getting married?” he asked William. “You’re my dad’s best friend,” he pointed out. “Does my dad know?” he asked, and I swallowed hard. “God, of course,
Since when are you fooling everyone?
he doesn’t.”
Brian was livid. He paced back and forth, on the verge of exploding. He and my father had always been very protective of me.
“If you calm down, we can explain,” William said, strangely calm.
“Explain what?” he practically yelled. “That you’re sleeping with my sister?”
William clenched his fists by my side, and Lanticipated a huge fight between the two of them.
“Don’t talk shit,” William said firmly. “Respect your sister,” he commanded authoritatively.
“Respect? She was playing the role of lower here. Do you know what we call lovers, Julia? A whore, a nobody.”
He barely finished speaking when I slapped him hard across the face, I would never allow someone to speak of me in that way or disrespect me like that.
“Does the truth hurt?” be smeered.
His words hurt me. I felt my chest tearing apart from this situation.
William moved toward him, but I held him back. 1 didn’t want to tum my birthday party into a battlefield,
“William, please…” I pleaded. He looked at me, upset that my brother had caught us red–handed. “Let me talk to Brian alone, please.”
William looked reluctant but aged. He left the balcony, leaving me alone with Bran.
“Damn it, Julia,” he cursed. “Is this for real? Our dad’s best friend?” he questioned.
“1 can explain everything that happened, or are you going to keep judging me?” I asked, annoyed.
Brian took a deep breath and approached me, sitting in one of the chairs there. I sat down beside him, summoning the courage to explain everything to him.
“I’ve always been in love with him.“1 began, but I was interrupted by his ironic laughter.
“You don’t even know what love is, Julia. You’re still a child!” he said harshly
I took a deep breath and continued:
“I’m not the little girl you and Dad want me to be anymore. I’ve grown up! And in case you haven’t noticed, its my 18th birthday party,” I spoke firmly.
To me, you’re still the same little girl as always, he grumbled, crossing his arms and looking like a child throwing a tantrum. But then again, who’s the child here?
“Either way,” I shrugged. I’ve always been in love with him. He always caught my attention. I never cared about anyone else before.”
“He’s our father’s best friend,” he said, shaking his head
“I know.” I nodded. “Ive always liked him and always wanted a chance for us to be together”
“And when was that? Since when have you been fooling everyone?” he asked, almost yelling.
“Remember the masquerade ball Mom threw at the company? I asked, and he looked at me, even angrier than before.
“No,” he denied, getting up, and 1 stood up too. “You’re not the woman we were looking for.”
“Yes, I am,” I affirmed,
“What the hell did you do? H
He grabbed my arm tightly.
“William didn’t know that I was the one, but I knew all along that it was him. And no, I didn’t say anything because I was afraid he would reject me, because that’s what he would have done if he knew it was me.” I explained.
“And how did you get to this point? Even knowing that you were the woman from the ball, why the hell did he keep this up?” he asked.
“What happened that night was very intense for both of us. We can’t stay away. We love each other!”
“He’s going to marry someone else!” he threw in my face.
Since when are you fooling everyone?
asked him to do that four months ago, I sighed. “We’re not together.”
“Are you going to tell our parents?” he asked.
“Mom already knows, and just so you know, she supports me,” I said.
“She went crazy along with you!” he said.
“Well, the hardest part is going to be talking to Dad… You know he won’t accept it,” I said sadly.
“Do you like him, Julia?” he asked, observing me.
“I love him,” I affirmed.
“I’m your brother, and I want what’s best for you. If you’re happy with him, I’ll support you,” he said. I squeezed his arms, feeling his support. “Now, you guys need to talk to Dad as soon as possible, he said as he let go. Imagine if he catches you like I caught you?” he asked.
“I know I sighed. “Williams wanted to talk to him right away, but I’m afraid…
“Don’t let fear hold you back,” he said, kissing my cheek. Tm sorry for what I said.-
“If you say that again, I’ll break your face,” I threatened my brother, who chuckled.
My Father’s Best Friend
I can’t get married!
POV WALIAM
I look at her and see the best part of me. I see my most beautiful part. Furthermore, I watch her smile, and I find myself smiling too because her smile has become the reason for mine. She can turn my worst days into better ones effortlessly, and that’s fantastic. Without any effort, she makes things easy when life gets tough
Julia comes back from the balcony, hugging her brother and laughing at some silly joke he made.
- e. I catch myself laughing too, sealing her happy.
I will live until my last day to make her happy and see that smile on her face.
Stopping her laughter, her eyes met mine. We have such a strong connection that we don’t even need to say anything, our gates speak for themselves
1 finish my glass of whiskey and place it on the table, getting up to leave and sort out my life.
Four months apart was torture for me, and now that we’ve talked and I have the chance to have her again, I won’t waste it. I wont wait another day to make her
mine.
With some difficulty due to the crowded place, I managed to leave the hall where the party was happening and head to the parking lot where my car was parked. I unlocked the alarm.
“William,” I hear someone call me. I turn to the person and see Brian approaching.
“Hey.” I also approached him, hands in my pants pockets.
“I talked to my sister…” he sighs. “She told me everything. And I want you to know that I’ll support you guys. If you hurt my sister, I’ll break your face,” he threatened
I chuckled at his comment, as it was almost obvious he wouldn’t be able to break my face.
If I ever dare to do something to hurt my girl, I’ll be the one who breaks my own face.
“I will live for the happiness of your sister, I assured him.
He laughed and slapped my shoulder.
“Who would’ve thought you’d be interested in my sister?” he questioned incredulously
“I never imagined it either… But it happened,” I said, stepping away. “I need to go handle an issue now.”
can almost guess what it is,” he said, making a face. “Good luck,” he wished.
I nodded and got into my car, driving away from the party.
The drive to my destination was quick because I couldn’t wait any longer to resolve this. I sped up to get there as fast as possible.
I parked my car in front of the huge mansion and got out, walking up
ing up to the door and ringing the doorbell.
Likewise, I was impatient with the wait, but soon I heard noises from inside, and the door opened.
“Mr. William,” the housekeeper greeted me. “Please wait a moment. Would you like something to drink? she asked, making way for me to enter.
“No, thank you,” I replied.
The housekeeper nodded and left my field of vision, leaving me alone in the vast room.
“Love…” I heard Angeline’s voice, and I turned to face her. She leaned in to kiss me, but as I had done every other time, 1 dodged it and stepped back. “William…” she grumbled, frustrated. “We’re getting married soon, can you stop avoiding me? she asked.
“That’s what I came here to talk to you about,” I said, observing her expressions. She grew tense and looked at me curiously. “This marriage is a mistake,” I stated.
“What?” she practically yelled.
You know that very well, Angeline. I don’t love you, and you deserve someone who loves and values you. That someone isn’t me,” I said, being honest.
“We’re going to have a child.” She caressed her belly and looked at me. I’ve already sent out the announcement of our engagement.”
I cant get married!
“I told you not to do that,” I said firmly. “And about our child, I’ll always be there,” I assured her.
“That’s not enough! You need to be married to me, she shouted.
I take a deep breath to avoid losing it, and before I tell her off, Angeline sits on the couch, burying her face in her hands and sobbing loudly. I’m at a loss for words and hardly know what to do.
“Daughter,” Oliver, her father, enters the room swiftly and rushes to his daughter. “What did you do to my daughter?” he angrily asks me.
“Oliver,” I try to say, but Angeline clings tightly to her father’s arms, crying even harder.
This is terrible, Daddy. He wants to cancel our wedding!” she cries even more.
“What?” Oliver shouts and stands up, coming toward me. “What do you think you’re doing?” he demands,
“Believe me, this is the best decision I could make,” I assure. “I don’t love your daughter, and I wouldn’t make her happy.”
A punch.
I barely finished speaking when I felt the impact on my face and tasted the metallic tang of bl
1 glare at him angrily and shove him back, retaliating for the punch he gave me.
“Father!” Angeline screams, rushing to her dad.
“You son of a bitch!” He gets up to come at me again.
Damn it.
I can’t believe I’m going to have to get my hands dirty.
“Stop this!” Angeline pleads for tears. “I… I think I’m going to faint.”
tang of blood in my mouth.
