Chapter 25
“You seem to have forgotten, I gave you plenty of chances,” Jennifer said coldly.
“You were useless and couldn’t hold onto a single one.”
Devlin’s voice trembled. “Honey, I truly know I was wrong.”
“And so?”
Jennifer let out a short laugh. “Can you bring back the two children? Can you undo what happened between you and Roy?”
“From the moment I left, I never once thought about going back.”
“Devlin, I find you disgusting.”
She turned to Devlin’s mother.
“Five minutes are up. Excuse me.”
“No… don’t, please. Honey, we’ve been together for so many years. You can’t…”
Jennifer walked out the door, leaving behind Devlin’s sobbing, pleading voice.
Devlin’s mother sighed. “Devlin, she’s gone.”
Those words felt like a death sentence to Devlin.
His eyes went hollow, but in the next second, he suddenly rushed out of the room.
The needle ripped from his arm, leaving a trail of blood, but he didn’t seem to feel the pain.
However, his body had long since reached its limit. After only a few steps, he collapsed heavily to the ground and lost consciousness.
When he woke up, he ignored all attempts to stop him and discharged himself from the hospital, locking himself in the nursery again.
He stayed there, refusing food and water, clinging to the remnants of his memories.
That evening, the door to the nursery was abruptly pushed open.
“Get out…
The words caught in his throat as he looked up. In the next moment, Devlin rushed over, overwhelmed by the joy of seeing someone he thought he had lost.
He hugged the woman tightly.
“Honey, you’ve forgiven me, haven’t you? Do you know how long I’ve been looking for you? Every time, I was just a little too late, and I couldn’t find you.”

“I bought steak. Let’s eat together, okay?”
The woman opened the steak container and brought a piece to his lips.
He instinctively opened his mouth, and she fed him another.
“Eat more. Seeing you like this makes me sad.”
Devlin stared at her, dazed.
She looked so much like her.
Even more so than Roy ever did.
“Let me come in and eat with you, okay?”
But as soon as she stepped into the room, Devlin snapped, yanking her out as if he’d gone mad.
“Ah!” The woman screamed in terror.
“Get out! Get out now!“.
“Devlin, stop it!” His mother rushed in to intervene, ushering the woman out.
“Mom, wasn’t it enough that you did this once? Why do you insist on pushing Jennifer away until she’ll never come back?” Devlin’s bloodshot eyes glared at her.
But she’s already never coming back.
Devlin’s mother’s lips moved, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
“You can’t keep starving yourself. I didn’t know what else to do. I just wanted you to eat something…”
Before she could finish, the nursery door slammed shut again.
Devlin’s mother nearly lost her balance, tears streaming down her face.
Inside, the only steak he had eaten was soon vomited into the trash.
Clutching the ultrasound image to his chest, Devlin drifted into a fitful sleep.
In his dream, he and Jennifer had a daughter.
The little girl looked just like Jennifer, and he spoiled her like a princess. But the one he cherished most was still Jennifer.
The dream shifted, taking him back to the day he proposed to her.
“Honey, will you marry me? I swear I’ll love only you for the rest of my life.‘
With tears in her eyes, Jennifer extended her hand to him..
He was so nervous his palms were sweaty, his hands trembling as he slipped the ring onto her

finger.
Even though he had imagined countless times how she might say yes, when the moment came, he was so overwhelmed that he cried.
He finally managed to put the ring on her.
But in the next moment, the ring fell to the ground.
And the warmth in Jennifer’s smiling eyes turned to.icy coldness.
