Chapter 23
All Devlin saw were countless backs dragging suitcases.
He lowered his gaze and began showing the photo on his phone to people, asking for help.
In a foreign airport, he disregarded his appearance and called out for “Jennifer” repeatedly.
After running through almost the entire airport, he finally got some information.
“She was sitting here half an hour ago. The flight has already taken off.”
“She even looked at you when you came in. Do you two really know each other? If so, why didn’t she respond when you were calling for her?”
Devlin froze in place.
He had missed her by just half an hour.
He had been so close to seeing her, yet he fell short by just a little.
Sweat dripped down Devlin’s body from all the running, but his heart felt as though it had fallen into an ice pit.
She had watched him run around like a fool, searching frantically, but she hadn’t crossed that small distance to meet him.
At that moment, Devlin clearly understood:
The clues weren’t a chance she had given him.
She never intended to take him back.
“Having a fight with your girlfriend? You must have made a big mistake,” a fellow traveler said sympathetically, noticing his dazed expression.
“But girls are usually soft–hearted. If you work hard enough, maybe you can win her back?”
But she wasn’t soft–hearted anymore.
Devlin’s throat was unbearably dry.
“Thank you. She’s my wife. I’ll win her back.”
The next day.
As Jennifer’s plane landed, she turned on her phone and once again saw Devlin trending online.
The topic read: Devlin’s Nationwide Search for His Wife Ends in Another Missed Encounter.
A photo was pinned to the top, capturing both her back and Devlin in the frame.
Jennifer’s gaze turned cold. After setting the topic to “not interested” again, she turned off her phot
She was genuinely frustrated.
She had drawn a clear line between them, but he kept refusing to let go.
Dragging her suitcase, Jennifer walked toward the exit. At the door, on a whim, she turned to look back.
There was no sign of Byron.
Jennifer couldn’t help but knock on her head.
What was she thinking? How could that be possible?
She turned back and left the airport without hesitation.
Her plan was to stay in this city for seven days.
Following her travel itinerary, she explored every corner of the city. Time flew by, and soon it was the seventh day.
Her chat with Byron had no new messages. Perhaps the bet he had proposed was just a joke. Walking through a grove of cherry blossoms, the beautiful scenery made her itch to take some full–body photos.
Turning around, she handed her phone to a passerby. “Hi, could you please…”
Her words trailed off as their eyes met.
It was Byron.
He didn’t take her phone, instead naturally picking up his camera to take pictures of her.
When the photos were finished, Jennifer was still in a daze.
Byron lowered the camera, his smile warm and gentle.
“I won.”
A subtle ripple spread through her heart.
After a moment, Jennifer finally spoke.
“I’ve booked a flight for this afternoon.”
“Then I’m honored to join you on your next journey.”
At that moment, Jennifer found herself unable to refuse,
That afternoon.
The plane carrying Jennifer and Byron had just taken off.
At the same airport, Devlin’s flight had just landed.
Following leads from netizens, Devlin visited every place Jennifer had been, only to find, once again, that he had missed her.
Late at night, he stood alone in the airport, utterly lost.
The steak he had been carrying had long since fused together. Gently, he opened it and took a
bite.
A tear fell onto the food.

For the umpteenth time, he scrolled through comments from netizens, hoping to of Jennifer.
Chasing her traces was the only way he could convince himself that he hadn’t completely lost her.
Ding.
A message from Devlin’s mother appeared. She had found Jennifer’s current phone number. Devlin’s hands trembled so much that he nearly dropped the phone. Finally, he dialed the number.
The call connected.
“Honey, the steak has gone bad. Let me buy you a fresh one, okay?”
